I would definitely make sure to treat people with kindness.  I wish there was a lot more kindness and less caddiness. That people really respect where people are coming from and a nature gentle state among people.

Iris: When was the first moment you knew you could trust someone?

Katelynn:

The first moment I knew I could trust someone was when I met my best friend Migdalia Ocasio. I knew I could trust her because she was different from my previous friends I had. Every single time I told her something she listened to me never interrupted me, she didn't make me feel like what I said was stupid she let me truly express how I feel.

Iris: What was a moment of emotional impact?

Katelynn:

I don't if I can say this, um, probably when someone told me they loved me. And it wasn't my mom! It was somebody special and, um yeah and I was just like whoa they meant that!

Iris: If you could change anything you would change anything what would it be?

Katelynn:

I would change some of the decisions I made when i was young, years ago. I would change the people I used to hang around with. You know what, actually they taught me something so actually I would thank them. I wish that I didn't trust them as much as I did, I wish that I stood up to more people in middle school.

Interview

Humans of SLA@Beeber: Ms. Sinea

sinea.JPG
“Ms. Sinea, what’s the proudest moment of your life?”

“The proudest moment of my life . . . Uhm, does it have to be something that has already happened or can it be something that’s coming up?”
“Either. Whatever one you prefer.”
“Okay, so, it hasn't happened yet, but I will graduate in about . . . five weeks now. Graduating from Ursinus College with a bachelor's of arts in English and an English language arts teaching certification.”
“Awesome!”
“I think, when I across that stage and they say my name and hand me my diploma, that will be the proudest moment of my life . . . so far.”

“About the teaching degree, why do you teach?”
“Uhm, so, when I was in high school, I had a really great English teacher. As you know, I went to SLA center city and he really inspired me to do something in my life where I can affect other people. And I think that, with teaching, each year you’re responsible, you know, for a hundred or so students and you have a hundred or so minds to mold into whatever you want to mold them into or what you want to make them.  And I think teachers that have an immense influence on the students they serve. Like, whether or not you think of it, students look up to teachers in some way. . . And as an English teacher, the things that you teach--- the prompts you give, the books that you teach-- that can affect a student for the rest of their life. I say that, because it’s happened to me with different books that I’ve read or different assignments that I’ve had. It’s really affected me in the long run. And I think that I wanted to do a job where I could wake up every morning and not be dreading going to work- where I could have weekends off and still enjoy my job. I think if you have to come to work for years, you might as well enjoy it. So far, I’m enjoying it and I think I chose the right job for me.”

“Is there anything you wish you would have done earlier? Or maybe [have done] at all?”
“I wish that. . . . There’s this quote that says, ‘our deepest fear isn’t that we’re inadequate; it’s that we’re powerful beyond measure.’ I wish I would have learned that earlier on. In my younger years, I was shy and afraid to step out there and really show who I was. It hindered me a bit. I think I could have stepped out and made a debut a little earlier in life, because I know I was capable, but I let other people’s perception of me-- and being afraid of people’s perception of me-- prevent me from being great. I could have been great earlier on instead of waiting until I was comfortable.”

Tell me a story about your name.

“My, ooh, that’s a long story, actually my name was chosen out of a hat. So, there was four names chosen for me, if I was, um, because back then when I was born, because I’m really old, um, they didn’t know if if I was gonna be a boy or a girl. So, it was your Memom’s birthday, so everyone said ‘What are you going to name the baby, if it’s a boy or a girl?’ and they had no idea, and my mom and dad didn’t know. So everyone in our family chose a name, and my two brothers, your two uncles, Memom, and your grandpop, and they all chose a name, and it would have either of been Melony, Adrian, Andrea, or Susan. So Andrea was picked out of a hat on a little piece of paper three times. That’s how I was named.”

“The most important lessons I’ve learned in life is to be yourself, be confident in what you can do, and don’t let anyone...put you down. Just be true to yourself.”

Question #1: What’s your earliest memory?

Answer: “Um, earliest memory, wow, the earliest one I could think of that I remember like vividly was being in, ah, like preschool, like really, really young school, and they were projecting a movie on the wall, and it was like a superman thing flying around, and everyone had to like fly around the superman, and I ended up getting dizzy and sick from doing it.  That was one of my earliest memories.
