The electrical wristband

I use this wristband as a sculpture because it reminds me of my past, the important memories that it holds because I don’t really produce a lot of memories, well live changing and adventurous ones, it’s always been work this, do this, clean this, do that, etc. also It’s the thing that I keep close to me.

Electric Art Phone Case- Heather & Olivia

IMG_2475
IMG_2475

The item we used to light up is a cell phone case. A phone case resembles a phone to us. Our phones are very important to us. Heather and I thought about doing many different things but it came down to us using a phone case. We both use our phones every day along with many others. People can use their phones to call, text, go on social media, take pictures, videos, play games, listen to music and many other things. Phones take up a lot of everybody’s day along with ours. It made sense to use a phone case because it is small and it easily can represent us. Being able to represent ourselves in physics was interesting. We both worked together to create ideas along with the final product. There were roadblocks along the way of this process but we did not give up. Some parts were challenging but overall it was fun to create a project using physics along with our everyday lives. The phone case says that we use our phones but also that we use them in meaningful ways. Students can use their phones if they forget their laptops and they can use them for simple things like looking up a definition or emailing a teacher if they are not right next to their laptop. The phone case says Heather and I can use materials in different ways along with the fact we can put a deeper meaning into the product. This project was difficult at times and there was a rush at the end, but we had fun doing it and we put a lot of work and meaning into it.

"After all this time, I remember."-Eva

I chose this memoir because I can relate to it in many ways in terms of my nostalgia for my old school and things I've had to let go of in the past year that I can't seem to find a way to forget about. I have cried a lot because of the changes in my life. I also cry sometimes because I can’t find a way to move on from the past and it’s frustrating when I always remember and think about it. My nostalgia for my old school has been extremely hard on me for the last year because I didn’t want things to change, but my parents decided it was time for me to have new experiences for high school. Therefore, I cried quite a bit because I didn’t want to leave my old school since I felt so comfortable there. I’ve also been having a hard time moving on from my first relationship, which was in the beginning of this year. My 6 word memoir connects with my old school and my relationship because it’s been such a long time now since everything changed, and I still think about it every day. I represent and illustrate my pain and struggling from the past year with multiple empty pieces of furniture in my drawing. I have 2 empty tables and a bare bed, which to me represent the emptiness I’ve felt from moving on. On my bed I drew a puddle of tears to represent the many times when I’ve cried alone in my room wishing things could be different. On the back wall I drew a small picture frame with 3 dots. Similar to the way you would write “...” to perhaps show time passing in a written piece, I have it in a picture frame to show time passing in my life, since so many things have changed.

Street Art Blog Post

My work was based on a anime called Naruto. It's the story of a boy who lost his parents and due to what he holds in him he is an outcast to society. But that doesn't stop because he grows stronger gains friends and endure the pain.

What Inspired my work was the Anime Naruto

I chose to put it next to the doors on the left side of the building because everybody would see it.
(But sadly it either fell off or someone took it down ;-; .)

It made me realize that if you believe it's art and pt it up in away that others can agree with you than it truly is art. No matter what it looks like or comes from.

It changed my perspective by showing me that the art done in cities and open places are respected and looked up to by most people due to the message. It made me realize that art is seen differently through others eyes and that's why art like that is controversial.

Caffeine and it's Effects on the Body

Task 1:

Make a conjecture: How long would you judge it takes for the caffeine to leave your body and at what rate?  At what point in time has half the caffeine left your body?

I would judge that it takes 6-8 hours for Caffeine and leaves your body at an hourly rate. So, at about 3-4 hours, the caffeine would be halfway gone.

Sketch a graph with labeled axes that shows what you think displays the relationship between time and the amount of caffeine in your body.

  1. What is the lowest amount of caffeine that can be present in the body to feel its effects?

32-200 mg

  1. Is caffeine a stimulant or a depressant?

Caffeine is a stimulant.

  1. What percentage of caffeine in a person’s body is eliminated each hour?

13 percent of caffeine is eliminated from the body every hour.

Task 2:

  1. Choose a caffeinated drink you drink daily (or often).

Sunkist Orange Soda: 12 fl oz.  Screenshot 2016-06-03 at 4.02.41 PM.png

  1. What type of function can you use to represent the amount of caffeine in your body?  Explain

You can use an exponential function to represent the amount of coffee in your body. You use this function because its graph decreases which is what happens to the caffeine as time progresses and it doesn’t decrease at a constant rate.

  1. When will the caffeine completely leave your body?

Theoretically, the caffeine will never leave your body. This affects the math because on the graph, your asymptote will be 0 meaning the caffeine will never be completely gone.

  1. When you have half of the caffeine left?  How long does it take for the first half to disappear?  How long for the second half?  Show this algebraically.

In order to find out when you will have half the caffeine, you would take your initial amount of caffeine (47 in my case) and divide it by 2. This is shown on the graph represented by the horizontal purple line.

  1. When will the initial caffeine be reduced to an amount that should no longer have any stimulant effect on the body?  (Refer to the reading to determine what this amount typically is.) Mark this point on your graph.

The initial caffeine will be reduced to an amount that should no longer have any stimulant effect on the body after the average amount of 32 mg.

My Graph: The Relationship between time and the amount of caffeine throughout a 24 hour period.

Based on my research I recommend that caffeine should not be consumed regularly. The amount of caffeine you consume can increase quickly if you constantly consume it. Based on the amount of caffeine in the product, I would only recommend taking in one or 2 sources of caffeine each day and to space each intake out.

Caffeine and It's Effect

INTRODUCTION TO ANALYSIS

Have you ever wondered the effects of caffeine? Have you experiences the effects of caffeine? What is caffeine, a stimulant or depressant? Why does it stop affecting our system after a few hours? How much leaves and stays in the body each hour?

Caffeine affects our Central Nervous System (CNS), muscles, hearts and blood. Caffeine is most commonly used as a stimuli, to raise mental awareness. But, it is also used in herbal, pain-killer medicines, low blood-pressure and weight loss. Thus, caffeine is a stimuli, not a depressant. Caffeine affects restlessness, nervousness, irregular sleeping patterns (excessive) and stomach irritation.

Caffeine also makes its’ exit out of the body even hour. Research from the National Science Foundation reports, in an average person, 13% of the caffeine consumed is decreased every hour. This means, 87% still remains in the body. Every drink that consists of caffeine, hourly it will decrease by 13%.

To put this into work, I tracked the amount of my caffeine consumption over a course of 48 hours. The time began from 6:00 AM on Sunday, May 29 to 6:00 AM on Tuesday, May 31. Within these two days, drink items that included caffeine were; black tea, masala chai, Pepsi-Cola and iced coffee.

ANALYSIS OF EQUATIONS

Over the course of 48 hours, I consumed caffeine seven times. Each time caffeine was consumed, a different equation was created:

  • The first equation (in red) was y=67(0.87)^x-0.5 of masala chai, drank after 30 minutes of 6 o’clock in the morning. It consisted of 67 milligrams of caffeine. However, the 67 in the equation derives from the amount of caffeine at 6:30 AM, saying we drank and finished the masala chai at 6:30 AM.

  • The second equation (in purple) was y=235.38(0.87)^x-4.5 of Dunkin Donuts small iced coffee. It was consumed at 10:30 in the morning, 4.5 hours after 6:00 AM. The coffee itself instilled 197 milligrams of caffeine. But, even after 4.5 hours the previous caffeine consumption was still in my body, 38.38 milligrams. So, 197 and 38.38 were added to get the total caffeine present in my body at 10:30 AM.

  • The third equation (in black) was y=149.07(0.87)^x-10.5 of black tea with 47 milligrams of caffeine. It was consumed 10.5 hours later from 6 in the morning. The number 149.07 comes from the previous amount of caffeine present in body at that time, 102.07 mg, then an addition of 47.07 milligrams.

  • The fourth equation (in blue) was y=131.64(0.87)^x-16.5 of Pepsi consumed. It was consumed after 16.5 hours counting from the 6:00 in the morning. The number 131.64 comes from the amount of caffeine in the Pepsi 38.9 mg and the previous amounts at that time (just before consumption of Pepsi).

  • The fifth equation (in red) was y=103.03(0.87)^x-25.75 of masala chai consumed on day two. The green shade represents from what to what time I was sleeping. Even during sleep the caffeine was releasing out of the body. So, 103.03 comes from the 67 mg in the masala chai, in addition to the previous amounts of caffeine within the body.

  • The last, sixth equation (in red) y=91.72(0.87)^x-35 also represents masala chai being consumed after 35 hours (from 6:00 AM, previous day). As in the previous equations, 91.72 mg is of two “ingredients.” The already caffeine in the body, plus the additional caffeine being consumed from the drink, in this case 67 mg were added to the previous amounts of caffeine, 24.72 mg.

KEY FEATURES of the GRAPH

To break down the graph we have key features. They are features that best describe the graph, for an easier understanding. In terms of the graph, the red line represents 32 mg of coffee, the amount in the body that it is no longer in effect. The horizontal axis, x-axis represents the time in hours, while the vertical line, y-axis represents the amount present in my body.

CONCLUSION

Caffeine may seem pleasant for a while, at least until not abused. Within adults, one should consume no more than 350 mg to remain healthy. However, even adolescents take caffeine through chocolate bars or coffee it self. Adolescents should take no more than 90 mg of caffeine per day. A high intake can cause problems such as in sleeping, breathing and blood flow. Caffeine if consumed higher than written should be controlled the next day. Limits should be set up. And, drinking caffeinated drinks early in the morning, allowing the body to process if the whole day will be beneficial. However, after the caffeine levels in your body drop to 32 mg, you can’t feel its’ affects. Drinking caffeine is no problem as long as it is not overdosed or abused.

My work throughout the year - Tierra Weary

This is a my work for all the projects I have composed in art class this school year. I have learned a lot this year in this class and here is my way of displaying it. Through different techniques I have become a better artist and broadened my horizions. I have grasped a deeper knowledge on different tools and how they work. I have really enjoyed my time in art class '16.

It is all about Heather Lopez

I’m Heather Lopez. I’m 15 years old. Philadelphia is my hometown and I love living here. There’s lots of different foods and things to do in the city. As I put in my room with the makeup table and dress holder, I love fashion and doing makeup ever since I was young. I put a symbol of Temple University and nursing gear because in my future I plan to go to Temple and study to be a nurse. That’s been my dream since I was little.

World War II's Black Pilot Ace

One_Perspective_Project_2
One_Perspective_Project_2
I want people and future historians to remember Lee Archer Jr.  I want them remember him for the breakthroughs he made for African-Americans. Lee Archer flown with the famous Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. Archer flown in 169 combat missions including bomber escort, reconnaissance, and ground attacks. Also, Lee Archer made history when he shot down 5 enemy planes which made him become America’s first black ace in the P-51 Mustang which is shown on the back wall.  After the war, Lee Archer earned awards such as the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Congressional Gold Medal which is also shown in the back wall. The table with pills on the back wall signifies the illness & death of Lee Archer Jr on January 27th, 2010.

Surrounded by family, but still alone.

The memoir means that I have a lot of family, yet I am surrounded by the same people I am always with. In Philly I should be able to always all the family that I have. Though I can't, I find myself usually in my house or just not seeing them. It's not that I don't want to see all of them. I just can't, I can't drive to them, I can't get dropped to them. That is why I put a lot of things near the head of the bed. the reason why is to show that I spend time in my room instead of being with family. Another thing is that I reflected heavily on my own room.

Caffeine and Its Effects

You get up in the morning and have a cup of coffee which is your daily routine, but have you ever stopped and think about how much caffeine is in that cup of coffee. No, because your'e too busy enjoying the white chocolate mocha from Starbucks.
The lowest amount of caffeine that can be present in your body to feel its effects is 32-200mg. Caffeine is a stimulant which raises nervous activity in the body. Each hour your body eliminates 13% caffeine from your body after initial intake. So while you are having your coffee think about the effects of stomach irritation, vomiting, increased heart rate, and nervousness.
For this example, we will look at the intake of Sunkist in the span of 24 hours and how much caffeine is in my body. I documented this from May 26th at 6:00am. Screenshot 2016-06-02 at 11.19.54 PM.png
Examination of Graph
To come up with these results I used exponential functions. Exponential functions are functions where they have a constant base, a variable as the exponent that keeps changing, and the same base is being multiplied over and over again.
The 3 equations I created from a chart where I documented my caffeine intake I came up with:

41(.87)x-2

51.19(.87)x-12

79.75(.87)x-14
The equations are presented in order from top to bottom as they are in the graph from left to right.

Exponential functions are represented as y = abx where a is the amount of caffeine in your body after consuming your food/drink with caffeine, b is the constant which is 0.87 represented in the equations, the exponent x is the hours since 6:00am when on your first day. To figure out the equations you would plug in the time of your next consumption into the previous equation to get your variable a which is the amount of caffeine in your body afterc consuming your food/drink.

Screenshot 2016-06-02 at 11.19.54 PM.png

Looking at the graph again we can see that was sleeping before the initial point starts on the x-axis. The graph is a funtcion.

Y-intercept - y = 54.168

Asymptote -  x = 5

The importance of b - b > 1 the graph increases, 0 < b < 1 the graph decreases.

Range - All Positive Real numbers

Domain - All real numbers

Should you stop consuming caffeine and when is the best time? Well after 200mg, it is probably best to stop because it can mess with you trying to sleep. Which is why people consume it in the morning. The best time to consume caffeine is in the morning because it is intended to keep you up. Do not drink more than 200mg at night because it can cause sleeping problems and nausea.

Project Synopsis.(Creature)

This Project is basically a clay sculpture that was put in a really hot oven and turned the clay into a glass like substance. I can’t myself tell you what it is because even I don’t know, this isn’t really an accurate representation of what it did look like because all three of it’s eyes fell off including its wings. The colors literally consist on what paint I could get my hands on.

Reflection:

I wanna say that I grew slightly, in terms of my artistic abilities this year. I thought that the freedom we had in class was nice, but personally I would have preferred a more teachy route in art class this year, on subjects such as anatomy, shading, perspective, ect. Throughout this year I stayed in my comfort zone and didn’t really try anything new. Though this art class did interest me enough to get me to start sketching on my free time again. Overall I think I didn’t grow as much as I wanted this year in terms of my art ability, but It did open up new opportunities for me to grow in the future.

Reflection/ Synopsis(Fallout Painting)

Though I don’t have a picture, I can say that the painting was done on a small poster board, with acrylic paint, it was a picture of fallouts poster boy called “vault boy” giving a thumbs up. I never got around to painting the skin before presentations, even though I didn’t present. The under arm of the suit the painting was wearing was yellow, while the suit itself was blue discluding a yellow streak in the middle. The outline was done with a black sharpie marker. I didn’t have any specific techniques while painting the painting other than clean short strokes of my paint brush

Reflection/Synopsis (Viewtiful Joe Drawing)

Yet again I don’t have a picture for this project, but just imagine a small man doing a pose with a red helmet and jumpsuit on. This was a regular drawing, basically I just drew really lightly with pencil on a piece of paper, little to no mistakes, then went over the outline with a black sharpie, finishing off the entire thing with different color markers.

What have you learned about making Art?

Since we weren’t taught like a traditional classroom, I can’t give you any professional answer, I can however tell you what I learned through the few projects that I did make ( in and out of the classroom). I learned that making art requires patience and repetition. I originally thought that everyone comes with natural talent in art and a few days of practice should suffice to becoming an effective artist, but I learned that you don’t get good overnight, and that you really need to practice over and over until it becomes natural and you don’t have to think about certain things when you draw something.

What have you learned about yourself through the projects you have created?

This isn’t something i've learned more as it’s something I knew and are reaffirming this trait, and that something is i’m lazy. I’m looking at my work and i’m realizing it could have been a lot better if i’d managed my time more. My being lazy prevented me from finishing the painting I started for the second quarter. It also made my first project mediocre. This also affects my drawings outside of school, as I’m to lazy to want to improve, so I stay contempt with what I have.

Which project you are most proud of and why?

I am most proud of the clay project I did, It’s the first picture I provided. I believe I titled it “Creature” The reason I am most proud of this project is because I moved out of my comfort zone for this project and it turned out better than expected. The picture unfortunately is of after it got beat up and I can’t put it back together but I am most proud of this project.

Your biggest weakness or area in need of growth has been this year?

I think my biggest weakness as stated in the previous question is my lack of motivation and laziness, I think if I apply myself a bit more I could have done a lot better in this class.

"What kind of Art you want to make next" and "What kind of Art inspires you the most and why?"

I want to do an animation next, not too complex. I want to keep it simple. I’d say that a minimalist style of drawing and art inspires me the most because they take so little and make really cool pictures out of it.

6 Word Memoir and One Point Perspective

IMG_5601
IMG_5601

My memoir is, A body of rhymes bleed imagination. This memoir resembles my love for poetry and my imagination. This room has curved objects inside of it. This represents how my imagination bends and curves in weird ways. The mirror on the wall represents reflection, when I look into the mirror, I see whatever my eyes and brain perceives. To others I may look different. The chandelier represents how creative I am. The chandelier is small but it is the most beautiful piece in the room because it brightens up the space. This shows how I think the little details are important and valued.

My Art Room

Memoir: Nice clean room equals happy life

My mother would always pester me about my room and how clean it should be. This doesn't just happen to me it happened to my friends. So instead of happy wife happy life I decided to make it for kids who moms always are telling them to clean there room. So clean room will equal a happy life because your parents will stop bugging you. My room is neat and nice just like how my mom would want it and it looks like mine

One Point Perspective

Phrase: Trapped behind the walls, Can’t escape.

Backstory: Someone I know feels like there is no where to go and traps how they feel inside. They want to break free but doesn’t know how or someone wouldn't know how to help them. They been trapped for a while and is giving up on breaking free because they can’t find any escape. In my picture it looks like a normal room but if u look at the door and the window you will see like a gate on the door and two looks on the window. This refers back to my six word memoir because it shows that there is no escape that they are trapped in the room. This person lost someone really important in there life and felt that with out that someone there wouldn't know what to do or how to live, and she didn't know who to talk to so they stayed to themselves

Art & Six Word Memoir

Life is what you make it !

If you choose to live a good life you’ll make good decisions , If you choose to live poorly you’ll make bad decisions life is what you make it everything has a consequence.Life is what you make it because if you do good and make good decisions for your future when you come home you’ll have a nice life and nice future it may not be a lot but its something you worked hard too earn. Life is what you make it because if you work hard for what you want in life you'll be able to have anything you want.If you make poor decisions for your lifestyle you won’t have a home that looks like below you may not have anything. The details that are in my room connect to my 6 word memoir because I feel as though this is a normal home in which a person isn't home all the time because they are to busy working hard for what they want so they have what they need but just don't really care as long as they have somewhere to stay Life is what they make it and if they want there home too look this way then so be it.
