Air Pollution Project

https://youtu.be/S3VWU3UQ0fI

For our PSA we decided to talk about Air pollution. The reason why I wanted to talk about air pollution is that I knew that many lives were taking by it each year. During my research I learned that 4.6 million people die from Air pollution. So we wanted to bring this to people’s attention. We, also included in our video something that causes air polluted which was the bing truck.

I contributed to the project by my reasearch during chechpoint one and during the script, I also made sure together with my group that we meant everything that was on the rubric.

I think my group did a very good job on the video and the script. I submitted my benchmark late because my group and I did not have a back up plan that if for some reason the editor had some problem finishing our video. We just recorded our scene on the editor’s phone and let him walked away like we were done. So he couldn’t finish the video on time and we couldn’t submit on time either.

So in the future I will make sure that i have a back up plan and not just rrly on only one person to edit the video and send it to me.  The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was I also learned during this process. I learned that I live in a city where air pollution is worse than in the suburbs.

Charcoal Drawing

                                   Artist Statement: Charcoal Drawing

In the project I used charcoal to create an image of mountains while using different techniques to create various patterns and textures to my work. While looking at this you will see 3 mountains overlapping one another and a single pine tree in the very front, with a shaded sky. There isn’t really a story or anything that I wanted to convey, I just really wanted to draw some mountains. Originally for this project I wanted to draw a tree, or flowers, mostly a tree so that I could play with techniques and create different textures for each part, but in the end I decided to keep it simple and went with mountains.

In order to create this project I first started of with a smooth piece of paper after creating my sketch. I used a pencil to create a simple outline for my drawing, then I took a conte crayon and used it to create a bold outline for my mountains, Mistakenly adding very harsh lines that acted as snowtops. Then I began to fill in the very back mountain, i began by using a charcoal stick. I rubbed it along the paper and then would use my finger to spread out and shade the mountain, on the left hand side I wanted to be a little adventurous so I took a watercolor brush and some water painted part of the mountain. In the middle of the back mountain I made my attempt at a crosshatch texture. It created a look that made the back mountain darker towards the bottom and somewhat of a gradient to the top (but it was completely colored in). I then shaded in the rest of the mountain and used my finger rather than a smudge stick. For the mountain on the right I tried to do a wider crosshatch look but it didn’t really work out so I used a charcoal pencil and shaded it in with my finger while going in circular motions so it didn't look so boring.  This ended up being the darkest of the 3, I used a kneaded eraser to try to get rid of any excess but it still appeared very dark. Next I drew my Pine tree using a charcoal pencil and a charcoal stick, this also came out too dark, but I used a white charcoal pencil to help lighten it up. In hindsight I should’ve made my tree bigger, it is rather small and useless and wasn’t very thought through at the time. For my last mountain I used the stippling technique mostly for fun and testing a new idea. I then shaded it in to add more color, because this would be the lightest of the 3. I personally liked this effect, even though it is more of a technique for pens or pencils, it worked with charcoal also. After I finished  everything I decided to Make a slight gradient in the sky, using a charcoal stick  because I found it to be the easiest to shade and work with. After that I finished off my piece by spraying it with a setting spray so it wouldn’t smudge.

This is the first time I’ve done something like this, it doesn’t really relate to any of my past work/ doodles. I could somewhat relate to pencil drawings that I’ve done and shaded in instead of colored, I never used charcoal or smudge sticks, just a pencil and my finger.  I feel like I could’ve taken more time to learn and test  new techniques to try, and come up with a better way to use and show them, but I'm not upset with what I did. New techniques are important because they can add more depth and tone to your work, for me personally I really liked the stippling technique and will probably use it more. It is a lot of tedious work but I enjoy the overall look of it and it can add more pizazz to a drawing.  Using this technique and crosshatching are probably what i’m the most proud of because I feel like i can incorporate this new ideas into future work and use them to add more texture instead of everything being so flat.

I wouldn’t mind doing this project over again, I can always try again but with my original tree idea and learn even more techniques. I feel like my final project came out alright, it's not my best work but i like the somewhat simplistic tone of it. I can learn more as a person who has an interest in art and only get better through experience and learning more and more.

Air Pollution PSA

  1.  This video is a PSA about air pollution. It consist of information about the causes and affects of air pollution and a conclusion of how we can try to fix this issue. We chose this topic because I was aware that air pollution is a huge problem especially living in the city and my teacher also thought it was a good idea, because she did not get a chance to touch up on the topic.
  2. I contributed a lot to this project by, doing research, coming up with ideas and the plot for the story.I had multiple roles as a; camera man,an actor in the story and also editing the video.
  3. I applied my knowledge very well and also judged my project by the rubric. I could've been a little better at time management, but that was only because I had one partner.
  4. The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was doing research about environmental justice and getting to know how things are, in different parts of the World.

Mercury Poisoning PSA

1. For this project, my group decided to create a PSA to show awareness of mercury poisoning. I was personally interested because I sometimes eat a lot of fish, and when I found out that fish contains mercury, I was shocked and a bit nervous. So I wanted to learn more.
2. I believe I played a significant role in terms of contributing to the project by editing the video as well as coming up with a script.
3. One thing I believe we did well was gathering the research for the project, but one thing I would like to change would be the video itself.
4. The most meaningful part of this project was that I learned more about the harms of mercury poisoning and that anyone who eats fish are at risk of having it regardless even those odds are small.

Q2 Benchmark Final INDIVIDUAL Submission: Video and Reflection

In my video I talked about the sewage disaster that we have going on in our city, the city of Philadelphia. I discussed how the issue was negatively impacting our community as a whole and the ways that we could successfully terminate the problem. The reason why I chose this topic is because it seems to be a huge problem in Philadelphia considering the fact that it's ruining our clean drinking water system as well as the air that we breath on a day to day basis. I also chose this topic because it's something that interests me.

I did the entire project on my own, just me, myself, and I. Something that I did well was finish the project on my own with the set back that I had of also starting only a week before it was due. Something that I could have definitely did differently was not waste class time or at home time to work on the project. By doing this I could have finished the project in a much timely manner.

The  most meaningful part to me while creating the PSA was giving the great advice that I gave that could help prevent the sewage issue in our city. With that being said, my PSA should help everyone learn to live in a clean environment without a hassle. Stay clean & keep on breathing!

Quarter 2 Oil Spill Environmental Science

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r84_TfieXzo&feature=youtu.be

For our project we decided to go into a more creative roots. We wanted to do something that we hadn't really done at least for the most of us so we decided to do a PSA. We chose this not only because it was something that was definitely out of our comfort zone but we knew that it was something everyone in the class could have fun with and enjoy watching. The reason we chose oil spills was due to the fact that oil spills have a lot to do with our economy's pollution in today's society. Not only is oil spilling a issue in our city but it is a world-wide issue. It happens in our oceans our lakes or creeks and once oil is in our water system you cannot remove it.

For this project I contributed with finding research, helping and creating the script and with the lyrics of our PSA. I wasn't too good on coming up with lyrics. It was very hard for me so to do. I  feel as though the next time I decide to do something like this for a project I could research more on how to do a PSA and try to contribute more in that department. Even though it was difficult for me to come up with the lyrics I felt very proud of our outcome. I felt like this PSA was a way that we could express how we felt, the issue that is occurring so that others can understand it and self relate

Q2 Water Pollution Benchmark

Our video is a PSA of water pollution. It’s basically me and my group members speaking on the topic and how it can be resolved. We chose this topic because we believed that water pollution is an important factor that we should know. We use water everyday and we can die if we don’t have it. Water is important to everything that is living.

What I contribute to the project was by giving ideas and editing the video. I believe we could’ve done better in recording more for our video and adding more information. The most meaningful part of this experience of creating the PSA is learning about water pollution and how it can affect us and ways we can prevent it.

Q2 Benchmark

1. For this project, my group decided to create a PSA to show awareness of mercury poisoning. I was personally interested because I sometimes eat a lot of fish, and when I found out that fish contains mercury, I was shocked and a bit nervous. So I wanted to learn more.
2. I believe I played a significant role in terms of contributing to the project by editing the video as well as coming up with the idea to research mercury poisoning.
3. One thing I believe we did well was gathering the research for the project, but one thing I would like to change would be the video itself. I feel like the video could've been better in terms of quality.
4. The most meaningful part of this project was that I learned more about the harms of mercury poisoning and that anyone who eats fish are at risk of having it regardless even those odds are small.

Quarter 2 Benchmark!

In our video we decided to do a voice over with picture to represent what we discussed. We did it this way because I thought it would be better to have multiple pictures to fit the description of our video. I choose this topic because after reading an article about the topic and understanding what was being said and hearing about the project, I came to conclusion that I wanted to present lead poisoning in the way I understood it and reflect on the topic more.

I contributed to the project by recording two parts and editing the video. Editing the video was a little hard to do because it took a couple minutes for me to get each picture to match what we were saying.

What we could of done differently was pay more attention to the rubric to figure out how long it needed to be make the video more longer and more creative. We also could of made a better script.

The most meaningful part of the PSA was explaining the statistics of the topic. I think this was the most meaningful part because we already knew what lead poisoning was and who it would effect the most. Adding the statistics to it proved how bad it can get and the increase of it over the years.

Mercury Poison PSA

This video is about mercury poison, and why people should be aware of it. Many people do not know the dangers that mercury poison has, and this video is a public service announcement to my peers who do not have an idea about what it is. It's a very important topic today, and it's affecting more and more of us by the day.

For this project, I was a large part of writing the script, and documenting how  the video should look. My group and I all played an important part in the creation of this project.

What we did well was look for vital information that most people could see as important. What we could have done better is add more quantity of content to the video.

The most meaningful part of the experience with creating this project was learning new facts about mercury poison that I had previously not known.

Quarter 2 Benchmark - Cristian Fernandez

Cristian Fernandez

1/19/17

In the video we described the issue of lead poisoning in Philadelphia, and how it impacts a lot of people. We describe how it mainly affects children developmentally and can also harm adults. We describe the politics that go into how lead is dealt with and how it can be treated properly, but it does take time and money. We make sure that people understand that lead isn’t only in the paint on our walls, but also in the water we drink, older plumbing could have been made with lead. For this project I was the editor of the video, and worked with everyone to put the video together, including being in the video. We all worked on the questions and making the video itself (filming). I feel as though I could have helped more on the script. My group did all of the script and I just edited some of it when we were filming mine and others parts. I think we all did a good time managing the time we were given, it seemed like a lot of groups were not on task the whole time and I feel like we worked with all the time we were given and made a good product as a result of it. I think the most meaningful part of creating the PSA was approaching the display of the points we had to someone who has no knowledge of the topic. This required us to go deeper into depth for our research and develop different ways of understanding it, which makes it more impactful to me,

Video and Reflection

Philadelphia has been dealing with issues caused by lead poisoning in children. The city still has a lot of old homes, factories, and even water that had lead used in them. Young children being exposed to this is hurting their mental health. I chose this topic because I felt really confident in creating a PSA on it. We created our PSA by recording a breaking news story in the news. I was the news anchor and I introduced most other people along with the topic and some main ideas. I think my role made the whole thing come together as a whole. I did well providing information but I feel like I could’ve made the recordings looks more professional. The most meaningful part has been researching more into the topic. I learned a lot more than we initially learned and it helped me realize how serious this problem actually is.

Lead Poisoning

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLzfGPWkFig
The video we created was a daily news cast that had breaking news to share. Our BBW news covered the dangers of lead and how it's exposed to children. They were not only explained by our host, but also two environmental justice warriors and a Professor at Harvard. We also gathered a personal experience from an average person on the street seeing how lead poisoning affected his life. We chose this topic because we had all ready had a lot of information on lead and we wanted to make it more well known how dangerous it is.

I feel like I contributed a lot in my project and in my group. I gathered part of our collective information and organized our sources. In the script, I also wrote the lay out of an interview. Lastly in the video, I played a Harvard Professor and a random person on the street.

As a group, I feel like we included all the information and requirements needed for the project. Although if we could do this differently, I think we'd change the scenery for a lot of our video. We could've used props also.

The most meaningful part of this PSA was learning the information than anything else because some of it was new and ridiculous to me. So when creating this, we had to made sure that we captured the audience's attention so they'd actually care about what they're watching.

Light Pollution Q2 Benchmark

https://youtu.be/dy6bf1Yvd0w

Our PSA speaks about the issues and importance behind light pollution. We raised awareness and explain how we can take action in decreasing this problem in our environment. Although light pollution is not talked about as much as air and water pollution , we decided to choose a very prevalent form of pollution that we believe society doesn't bring enough attention to.

I believe that we all played an equal part in the project. I was responsible for recording and contributing to the writing in the script.

I think we did well with working together in most moments but we could have managed our time a lot better.

The most meaningful part of the project was probably gaining the information that we were able to share in our PSA.

Oil Train Derailment In Philadelphia

For our PSA, my group and I had the idea to have a creative PSA, we wanted to attract our audience on this important issue/topic that seems to be silent when it shouldn't be. The environmental justice my group chose to focus on was Oil Train Derailment in Philadelphia. During our research, we came across many good Environmental Justice problems that we couldn’t focus on because we had a feeling our classmate had already picked that issue. When we came across Oil Train Derailment in Philadelphia, we knew we had to focus on this Environmental Justice problem because it is needed to be talked about. My group and I decided to divide our PSA into two different parts, how this is divided is the first part you learn what Environmental Justice is and the information you need to know our topic. The last part is where we provide a song/ music video that is very funny and entertaining, a PSA doesn't need to professional or boring.

The roles I’ve played during this benchmark were getting our group together, completing the checkpoints and editing the music video along aside jade. I had all my tasks done with no problems. What I could have done differently is how confident I wasn’t throughout this benchmark, I was out my comfort zone while filming the video which can be seen in the video, I wish I had been more confident. The most meaning part of creating this PSA was learning about this issue that I hadn’t known about until this benchmark was assign. What this experience had taught me is how a topic so clients can be so deadly.
