Street Art

The meaning of my work was to embrace my darker side. My work was inspired by a mixture of vampires, Lucifer, and the flames of Hell. The reason I chose the location I did is irrelevant because I just put it in a random place. This project made me realize the value of art and finally understand that the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" may actually be true. This project makes me see street art in a new light, I now have a new respect for street artists and their work because of this assignment.

Its All About Deception

Its all about deception. The word deception comes from the word deceive which means "(of a person cause (someone) to believe something that is not true, typically in order to gain some personal advantage." The phrase comes from my coach, coach Jim. We were talking about attacking the defense and the key is to deceive. Lie about what they expect you to do and do the opposite and gain their "personal advantage." That is why the words are backwards and upside down to create a look lies to you about its meaning. Also I spelled deception wrong so only the true deceivers can figure out its meaning.

I chose that place because when people walk up the stair way they can see it and it will make them look twice. This graffiti does not change my thought of art but it enhances it and shows me a new side of art that I never thought could be expressed.

Laye Flower

The meaning of it was to show something that truly represent me as a person. One thing that really did inspire me was nothing. Nothing inspired me because I know how I am. Flower will always grow and that's something I do everyday. But of course a flower will die, but only I die is when I'm having my bad days. I chose the location of my art because I want my art to be shown. This project changed my perception on art because I never thought street art is based on what you actually want to draw. Also I can see the feelings of making your drawing art. When I see art around the city I can see how well put the art is. Also I think about why and how they put their art around.

SLA@Beeber Green Team Meets Steve Ritz, Founder of the Green Bronx Machine

On April 19th, members of SLA@Beeber's Green Team were honored guests at the Stephen Ritz program “Food for a Change: Youth, Schools and Social Entrepreneurship” sponsored by Saint Joseph's University.  Steve Ritz is the founder of the Green Bronx Machine and a renowned educator who transformed the South Bronx by integrating urban farming in the school curriculum.

Students met Steve Ritz in person and even got his autograph! Sophomore Queren V. shared, "I feel so important. I can't believe we got front row seats and everyone is taking pictures of us!" All students were jaw dropped and left the night with amazing ideas of projects they wish to do at SLA@Beeber's urban farm.

Sophomore Kiersten B. shared:
"Steve Ritz's talk was eye-opening to me. Everywhere in this city, I see the remarkable effects people have on their environment. I've become conditioned to accept sidewalks being treated like landfills; I'm accustomed to concrete playgrounds and occasionally seeing houseplants. More often than not, I hear about the detrimental ways in which we're destroying the world around us. Yet, the before-and-after photos of the rooftop gardens amazed me. They allowed me to see a profoundly positive example of people interacting with their environment. Seeing a cityscape covered in greenery made the idea of a city seem less invasive-- as if, somehow, people can live comfortably without leaving Earth around them barren. I like to think that, one day, all cities will look that way. The entire talk served as a pleasant reminder that I don't have to be a passive player in my environment; the way my city looks is up to the all of the people who live in it, including me."

Let's Grow!

Sla Street art

My artwork is meant to be a PSA. I wanted to shine light on the issue of meme abuse in this world, especially in this day and age. I want to inform people of the help available to meme abusers. The inspiration for my work was my beloved friend named Priscilla. She was a meme addict and needed urgent help. I did some research and came across this ad. This hotlines saved her life. I chose to put this in this location because it is a very common area that a lot of people walk by. I want people to notice my art. This project showed me that immature jokes and pictures on the internet can be art. Street Art does not have to always have meaning, it can just be entertaining. This project made me appreciate the art on the streets more. Before this unit, I would have paid much attention to me rows in the city, now I pay more attention and questioned the author's perspective.

Gripping on to Humanity

My art has a character from my favorite show called Tokyo Ghoul and this show is about a normal boy who gets turned into a ghoul and these ghouls are dreaded by humans ghouls are monsters who kill the human species but the person I drew he's half human and half ghoul so he fights to keep his humanity still intact but he also looses it to the other half the monster.

I chose to draw this because if you look deeper it's not just a show you watch but you can connect them with today's society
we are we are all humans but we have that one monstrous side that we let go of often like Jealousy, Hatred, Revenge things like that and in this this show and in today's society you see that.

I chose to place my drawling near Olivia's and I did this because it's where mostly everyone can see it near the corner of the hall way and also Olivia wanted me to put mines near her drawling.

This project opened up my eyes in many ways I now know that to express yourself you don't have to speak there are many more ways to express yourself and drawling is one and having everyone see my art makes me feel confident I now feel like drawling even more because once you draw you feel at peace and when I drew I felt at peace it's almost like reading your favorite book it's only you, the book, and the words with art it's only you, your feelings, and the canvas.

Love is Love

The meaning of my Art work is to love who you love and love yourself with no regrets. Society teaches us that being who we are is a bad thing and children need to learn how to not be afraid to stand out and become one with themselves, adults as well.

What inspired my work was me, I'm criticized everyday for being who I am. However, I'm the me I chose to be and I won't, I can't change for anyone. I love who I'm becoming everyone of us are entitled to happiness.

I chose the location I chose because it's directly outside of my art classroom.

This project was a good way for me to express myself, it was an opportunity for me to use my voice.

I now look around the hallway looking at the things other people created, it's very interesting to see what your peers are into and are like through their art work. It's pretty neat seeing something new and different around the school, there are so many personalities hanging up on the walls.

Street Art

It's an artist that I listen to and It's a pose that he did in one of his music videos.

A artist that I follow on Instagram is what inspired me.

I chose the location because It's next to my advisory ( Aziz. )

It really didn't change my perception of art because I always enjoyed art.

It changed my perspective by whatever street art I see I would think about it and know there is a history & meaning.

The meaning of our work was to just decorate the hallway and make it look nice.

When we looked online for ideas we found Chinese symbols that we thought looked call and wanted to make.

We chose to put our work next to the Main Office since everyone always pass there. So we wanted to let everyone see our work.

This project changed my perception of art since it made me realize that a lot of things that I thought wasn't art actually is.

This project changes my perception of art as I look around the city by seeing a lot of designs that I thought wasn't art but actually is. Art is what you want it to be, you could put a brush by a broom and to you it could have a meaning that nobody else understands.

A Lion

What this drawing means to me is the life if how the lion king of the jungle lives his fierce and fearless life.

What inspired my drawing was how much I love the wild animals especially the giant cats dogs and other wild animals.

The location I chose was near the art room so it reminds me of my creative thinking.

It did not change my perception of art

Through the city I can see that many things have a different meaning and can represent different things

Positive Vibes +

My street art is uplifting inspiration. It reminds people to be themselves. There are some encouraging quotes on it that people can learn from.

I know that in school, especially high school, there are many struggles. You are still trying to figure yourself out and navigate this thing called life. Knowing that people are going through so many changes, inspired me to encourage them to always stay true to themselves despite the struggle. Always be you as you make your way through the maze called life.

I chose to put my street art in front of Ms. Connagahn's room near the window, because that is one of the places where the sun shines the most. Being that my piece is about being happy and is focused on uplifting people, why wouldn't I put it in one of the brightest places in the building?

This project changed my perception of Art, because I now know that art can come in many different forms. Art can come in ways that you probably wouldn't even imagine. Art could be anything, it all depends on they way you interpret the piece. Art is more mysterious than I thought.

I have come to appreciate street artist and art much more. They risk their lives just trying to express themselves. They want to share their ideas with the world through ways that may not be traditional. I respect that. I now see some of the street art as super cool and thought provoking.

Primary Election Volunteer

My experience was pretty cool, I went to a polling station near my house with my aunt and uncle. We were immediately greeted by a small group of people basically telling us to vote for some guy. As we got to the doors there were two people handing out little sheets of paper with who we should vote for on it. They told us the ballot that the other group gave us was fake and to trust them instead. We went inside and it was pretty dead but it was cool cause they had donuts. My aunt let me go inside the actual thing that you vote in and let me click on who to vote for, she also let me click vote which was fun. All in all it was a cool experience.

The meaning of the artwork i made is family and it can come in all shapes in sizes

What inspired my work was my friends that are so close to me that i can call them family and they can do the same to me

I choose the location to place this artwork because it’s an advisory and in advisory were supposed to be a family

This project did not change my perception of art

Through the city I can see that many things have a different meaning and can represent different things

There isn’t a meaning. The unicorn is something i’ve always liked. The hands represent god, and how I am a child of god. My inspiration came from Apple, their emoji’s perfectly represent what I like. I chose the location simply because it my baes locker. This project changed my perception of art because I got more of an understanding that not everything is art, and that it came be hard to create something of your own because there is a chance that someone already got to the idea and it’ll cause intimidation on the person. It changed my perception of Art from what i’ve seen in public because you get an understanding of why they do it. They do it because they want others to see their ideas and things they can create.

Justice Will Prevail

The meaning of my artwork “Justice Will Prevail” is that if anyone does something wrong they will eventually get punished for what they did. I got the quote from an anime I watched called Death Note and I really liked the quote.

What inspired my art was that I really liked the quote. What inspired the design of my art was the logo of this college called “The New School”. Their logo was a red background and the name of their school was written in white with two white lines under it. My artwork was the quote “Justice Will Prevail” with a white background , red letters, and two black lines under it

I chose the location I chose because no one else’s street art was in that area and I thought it would be easy to notice.

This project changed my perception of art by telling me that art can be anything and nothing is wrong when you're drawing art.

This project changed my perception of art I see as I travel around the city by making me look around to see different art while i'm on the street.

The meaning of my street art is that money flies. It is so easy to lose money by spending it or losing it. My art was inspired by the saying money is the root to all evil. I think this is true because money is the most valuable thing in the world , people fight over it everyday. I chose this location because a lot of people walk down that hallway which means a lot of people will see it. At first I thought art was easy but then I noticed it wasn't. You have to think of what you want to draw and draw it. It changed my perspective because know I know not everything is art.

Najee's Deadpool Artwork

The meaning of my work was to inspire Deadpool fans. I also thought it would be cool yo have a saying that told people to work hard and put a lot of work into what the person is doing without actually saying it.

My creativity and the fact that I enjoyed the movie inspired me to do this.

I choose the location because it is my advisory room.

This project didn't change my perspective.

This project didn't change my perspective as I traveled around either.

The meaning of my street art  was to show a little bit of what i like. Some of my channel  stuff is in there to. this for me was a really good way to show what i like in a creative form. Somethings that inspired me to do the art that i did was some games that i like to play and my channel both stuff i love doing and what better way to show what kind of person i am then what i like .
I picked this locution because of its hot spot for people walking by. My art change my perception of by showing me how to see it differently like i use to think that street art was just people putting things on the wall  and not seeing as there out let to the world. All over the city i see it change do to many factors such as taste culture music and etc...

Holding on

IMG_8452
IMG_8452

The meaning of my "street Art" is to make people aware. For them to realize that while they are trying to hold on to what they love, is only going to drag them down. I decided to to create this imagery because I was a victim of not being being able to let go. I was holding on to something I couldn't changed or ever forget. It weighed me down and caused more damage then if I were to let go and move on.  I chose the located of a corner to place my piece. I placed it there because it's meant to be hidden. You never know when you need to let go, you also never know when you will see my inspiring "street Art." After creating my Art work, it changed my perception on art because o the message it gives. Now as I travel the city I look at Art people have created and try to find the message behind it.
