Amin Robinson's Capstone

CapstonePsychologicalIntuition
BibliographybyAminRobinson
My capstone was about society's intake on insecurities. I use social parties between Ethnicity, Gender, Sexuality, Religion, and Age. the Idea was to find any type of lines that connect any of these parties together through insecurities. I have decided to do this because I am a very well-spoken person with the alacrity to speak my mind but in an amiable way. I take into account other's feeling and definitely will soon understand psychology in many different ways and forms. I am planning on studying it because at a young age I was very emotional and have soon felt at one point, insecure. My reaction to this is "Why do I feel this way about myself?" whether I felt incoherent what can I do psychologically to help myself understand something that I have been feeling for over years and years to come? I wanted to break each and every part of insecurities down into small pieces and let people know that this is how society feels. This is why insecurities are link to hate crimes, homicides, suicides, many other unfortunate events. I am well aware what I want to do. I want to actually study the human brain and what makes the nerves "tick"

Indigo Harris - Capstone

Posted by Indigo Harris in Capstone on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:19 am

For my senior project which is also called a Capstone, my partner and I decided to throw a SLA @ Beeber's first fashion show! As you can imagine it was both exciting and stressing being as though we are both 18 years old with outside of school responsibility we had to tend to but overall we got the job done. We did a "blast from the past" fashion show covering different ears such as 80's , 90's Afrocentric and Present day. Both the Afrocentric and Present day clothes were designed by SLA students. The first three months were strictly fundraising , we did bake sales , waterice sale , hot dog, chip and soda combo's . All to raise the money to fund the clothes the model would be wearing in the show and to fund other things for this production , The next month around February we began our tryouts and starting practices for the show. We did photo shoots to create flyers to advertise the show and me being the present day designer, I began to work on my pieces that would be in the show. We partnered with another student Jason Prez and got him to record the show so we could have not only pictures but a video of what we put together. We had to do research on what the clothes looked like at the time, we to create a estimated price range etc. This fashion show was far from easy, it took so much hard work but it all paid off in the end.

Abstract:
Since 2017 is my last year as a student at Science Leadership Academy @Beeber, I decided to do my Senior Capstone on “Welcome to Cooking With Jasseca”. As a Cambodian American living in Philadelphia, not many people know about us, our culture or our food. And because of that, I decided to incorporate my love for food and my culture into my Capstone Project. The purpose of my Senior Capstone project is to learn a few Cambodian dishes from scratch with the help of my grandmother and uncle. I wanted to focus on something that is a part of me. As I was growing older, I felt a sudden disconnection from my culture. Though, as I entered high school, I was able to slowly come to terms on who I am and where my family derived from. And so I asked myself the beginning of senior year, “What can I do for my capstone where I will enjoy and learn throughout the process? How can I make a positive impact to others with what I do?” And so I thought about cooking Cambodian dishes! Not only do I enjoy cooking, but I can learn what type of things are used to create these dishes. I decided to make a blogpost where I can put the recipes on in order to share with others who are interested in cooking these delicious dishes! Sharing these recipes with others will allow them to have a taste of Cambodia! So far, I was able to make two soup dishes and 1 appetizer. I hope to continue doing this in the future, adding on more recipes of delicious Cambodian cuisine to my blog.

Austin Haefner Capstone

Posted by Austin Haefner in Capstone on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 5:56 pm

For my capstone I chose the art of writing. The book is called: The Overshadow Of Asonavis, which is of the High Fantasy genre. It is apart of a bigger project, my Omágdom Auii-ʌm as I call it, that I have been working on since December of 2010 (The whole thing, not the book).
The initial goal of writing this was first, obviously to publish it, but to have a semi-cult following much like Terry Pratchett.
One huge way that this benefited me was by allowing me to show my true potential. I hope that in the creation of this book, which goes hand in hand with a religion that I made, The Eỹrthr̃uosus Religion, and a language that I made, Lusom, that I do prove what I am capable of.
For this project, my main focus was on Character Development and I think that I did a good job with it. Character Development may seem easy in theory but in practice, it's not so. I worked hard to connect the main characters not only with each other but the world that they live in, dealing with such things as how they experience things together and their past experiences.
As my last remark, I would like to thank readers who take the time to read my book and to my teachers and family for helping me through this process.

*Below there are two versions of the book, the first is a shortened finished version of the book and the second is the unfinished official manuscript. The religion is slightly laid out in the shortened finished version of the book at the end.
Below that is an outline of the religion.
Below that are two pictures of the world that the book takes place in. The first image is a map, the second image has the names of the subcontinents of the world.
Under that is a link to a Rosetta Stone type website for my language. I did create the language learner, but not the website.
Under that is a link to a wikia that I made that explains the religion.

Greg Alston/Samir Smith SLA Guy Code

Posted by Gregory Alston in Capstone on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3:45 pm

SLA guy code, a capstone tradition started by Greg and I during our senior year here at SLA Beeber. This is the first episode of this tradition we hope to start. Basically, using MTV’s guy code series as a reference, we created our own guy code pertaining to SLA Beeber and the things that go on in our school and amongst our graduating class. The class of 2017, the upcoming and very first graduating class of SLA Beeber, most of us have been here since the start of the school itself and others came to fill in as time went on. Most of the people that Greg and I chose to interview and include in our capstone were seniors who have been here since day one. We referenced a few topics that we came to agree that all students had something to say about and topics that were completely relevant and ongoing in our school. Although SLA isn't your average school, there are just some things that we have in common with other schools. In this episode you will get to hear students speak their minds and address the given topics, which were picked so that they sparked interest and made the students want to speak on them. This capstone has no filter, being as though we told everyone to speak their mind and be genuine, but there is no name dropping allowed. We had to make sure that no one's reputation was desecrated. Viewers Discretion Advised.

Imagine. Create. Entertain. Productions - Lex Martinez & Jason Perez

Posted by Lex Martinez in Capstone on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3:26 pm

During our capstone project, Jason Perez and I realized that we have the same interests in a field of work that was very special to us. That field of work was Film and Video, digital media in broader terms. This field of work was special to us because it allowed us to connect to many different types of people not just locally but nationally as well. The field rooted from hard work, collaboration, execution, and passion qualities that developed during our four years at Science Leadership Academy @ Beeber. With those qualities in mind, we developed the idea of creating a Film Production studio on a small scale, similar to what we have today at SLA's rough cut studios and SLA@B's media lab. We crafted a name, a logo, a mission statement, almost anything and everything you could think of when establishing something as big as a studio. But life hit us very hard, it was difficult to get funding as teachers didn't support after-school jobs, teachers and students didn't support monetary donations or spreading for awareness, many doubted us, many didn't see what we envisioned for our capstone. It would have been studio that would have taught students that learning is more than textbooks and being at a desk in the classroom. Learning is getting out into the field and expressing and embracing your creative vision, a quality that is suppressed by current practices. This was developed on the fact that there is a handful of schools that find the funding to create these programs, both SLA's as an example. Imagine. Create. Entertain. Productions (I.C.E) would have been a program for any and all students within the Philadelphia school district to learn new skills and develop new media to be seen by millions of people in the world. Today, I.C.E Productions stands as a long term goal between Jason Perez and I as we work towards building a credible portfolio to be seen by thousands of people. We hope to inspire, entertain, and more importantly teach through the videos we've created utilizing the programs provided by WHYY, SLA@B media lab, and the on-the-fly skills we've developed through experience. Tierra Weary Capstone

Posted by Tierra Weary in Capstone on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:10 pm

Sometimes in life we stray away from what is real, taking the focus off the more complex issues creating a false world to live in. Welcome to Tierra Weary´s Senior Project. I chose to do a children´s book because not enough awareness is spread to them about certain topics. My book targets children 8 years of age and older. I wrote my book on abuse and chose to write a book of such nature for children, allowing them to see the harsh realizations of society. Abuse came upon as a hard subject to take on because its a children´s book. I ran into various complications while making this story. The most challenging part for me was coming up with a story line that wasn´t to explicit for their ears, but enough to stimulate there minds. All in all, my senior project was very fun and interesting. It allowed me to express my creative side. I really enjoyed working with the tools I used and referencing back to old classes and assignments. For my Capstone, I composed essential questions for myself: How do you convey difficult messages to young children (8+)? What could be the impact on a child's life taken what the book displayed? How do you understand a child's mind? From the author: I hope my story helps young kids in the future.
