People don't realize that what they post on the internet will not go away even if they take it down. Lack of Control. You might only email two people something but that could go viral and the whole internet could end up knowing it.

3)

All of these have a much larger effect on the internet because anyone can see what you post share it as they like and do what they want with it. It might be illegal but people will still do it. Like with Tyler how he was recorded inline and ended up committing suicide.

You should always think before you post and if something comes you do not like you should send an email asking for it to be taken down. You should never give out your email to an untrusted source or click unknown links.

5).

Yes the internet has rules it might be hard to enforce them but the internet does have rules. If you look on websites you will see that you sometimes have to agree to something, those can be considered rules.

Doxing is a kind of cyberbullying that involves getting the information of someone and releasing it online. Victims should always say something what is happening to a teacher parent or even police.

Bullies should think about what they are doing and stop.

Bystanders should speak up and say something or get help

8)

  • Be very careful and do not do anything that could leak any information.

  • Remember that no matter what you might think it is virtually impossible to be anonymous on the internet.

Immediacy effects your on and offline life in several ways one way on line is you might click the post button and not mean it but you can’t change it. Off line if you say something mean or office something could happen to you or that person could be hurt.Permanency can affect you online because if you post something bad  that's what people think of you. Flaming is fighting exchange in text or on so and can also include explicit pictures or language. It bullying because you can harm someone or hurt there feelings.

  1. Provide advice for: victims, bullies and bystanders of cyberbullying

victims:I think victims should tell someone and If they don’t feel comfortable doing that handle the situation maturely.

Bullies: should do there own thing and do what makes them actually happy instead of minding others business.

Internet Survival Guide

  1. The Internet has changed communication because it gives humans the privilege to do things easier than they can in person without getting caught. For example, the Internet lets you judge others anonymously and possibly ruin their lives.

  2. Immediacy is when you post something online and the post immediately is recognized by others, even if you delete it someone possibly got offended or screenshotted the post.

Permanence is when a post is permanent. It will always exist on the internet.

Lack of Control is when you don’t have control over something you or another person posted.

1 To me immediacy is like posting something online or it can be saying something in person. Once you say it you can’t take it back.

1b.  Permanence is only on the internet once something is on the internet it's forever even if you take it down. There are screenshots or pictures to prove you may have done something.

1c. Lake of Control is if you are tagged in something you had no control over what happened. Also you have no control over what happen when other people post or say something and bring you into it.

2.  One way you can protect yourself online is making sure you only post appropriate things online. Also something you can do to protect yourself online is to only contact people you know oline.

3. Does the internet have rules? Yes it does like legally you cannot post or say certain things online. For example On twitter if you put something up that they don't like it will be taken down.

4. Cyberbullying is hiding behind your screen to and hurting others.

4b harassing saying mean thing on the internet to hurt other people

5 Don't be a victim stand up to bullies

Internet Survival Guide

1. The internet has changed our community in many different types of ways.  For example, the way that people communicate now is through the internet.  It is a lot more convenient than sending letters or meeting up with people because everybody doesn’t always have time to write a letter or meet with someone just to talk about something.

2. While using the internet you have to be careful of Immediacy, Permanence, and Lack of Control.  Immediacy is when you send something or post something and it is uploaded immediately.  Permanence is when you post or send something and it will be on the internet for ever.  Finally, Lack of Control is when you no longer have control over something that you send or posted to the internet.

3. Immediacy, Permanence, and Lack of Control affects our online and offline lives because if you post something or send something that everyone can see, you can get in trouble online and get in even more trouble in real life.

4. Two ways that you can actively protect your online identity is by one, making a password that even you can’t remember.  Also, you can try and make yourself private on whatever you are using so only people you know can see what you post.

5. Does the internet have rules.  The answer is no.  But, on almost everything that you use on the internet, it has a terms of service also.  In those terms of service it tells you what you are allowed to do and what you are not allowed to do.

6. Cyberbullying is when you constantly harass someone or attack someone of the internet to get them angry or scared/worried.

7. One type of cyberbullying is trolling.  Trolling is when you purposely say things to get someone mad.  This is cyberbullying because someone is purposely bothering someone for the sole purpose of making them mad.  Another type of cyberbullying is Mashups.  Mashups is when you take a photo of someone and edit it to insult the person or just as a funny joke.  This is cyberbullying because you are making fun of a person so that other people can laugh at it.

8. Some advice that I have for victims of cyberbullying is to try and not take what people say so personally so that you don’t get hurt from it.  Also, you should tell someone that you are being cyberbullied and they might be able to do something about it in order for it to stop.

9. My 5 tips for using the internet are make passwords that you can’t remember, don’t post anything that will hurt somebody, keep your accounts private, don’t share anything of your accounts with others, and do anything on the internet that could affect you.

Internet Survival Guide

Slide 1- Before social media, we were extremely limited in our means to interact with others and we were limited largely to the people that we knew in-person.The internet and social media has drastically changed the way people all over the world interact and communicate. People are now able to access information and share things in a way that was not possible in a previous generation. Social networks such as Facebook have provided completely new options for people to socialize, by creating individual profiles that can be used as a digital scrapbook, photo album, journal, and communications portal. Users can send each other public messages, private messages, or instant messages, and can even group their “friends” into different levels depending upon the amount of information the user wants to share with that person.

Slide 2- Lack of Control-when you post something you lose all control of where that post may end up

Slide 4- Permanence- something being permanently online.

Slide 3- Immediacy - how fast something gets spread or post online.

Slide 5- Jessica  Logan, was a Ohio high school senior who committed suicide after sending a nude photo of herself to her boyfriend. When they broke up, he sent the photo to everyone else at her school. Jesse was harassed for months by the other girls at her school. Jessie’s grades began to drop, than she started skipping school, but when she did go to school, she would hide in the bathroom to avoid being teased.Lack of Control:The moment she sent those pictures to her boyfriend (at the time) she had no control over what happened to them or what people would do with them.Immediacy:When her ex-boyfriend sent those pictures to everyone in her school, there was no stopping it. Even if the pictures got “deleted”,everyone saw the pictures already. People could have screenshot, share, and post it on the internet for everyone else to see.Permanence:It's nearly impossible to completely remove a picture off the internet, because there's always a chance that someone downloaded, or screenshotted the pictures.

Slide 6- 1. Search yourself

Do a Google search for your name and also a search for your name in Google Images.

Slide 7- Keep private things private

You can, and should, put privacy setting on all content you want to share only with a select group of friends and family.

Slide 8- When I think of internet rules, I think of these 3 main rules:

1. Don't share any information that could potentially put me in harm.

2. Don't share any inappropriate posts, pictures, or information.

3. No bullying activities

I am going to use the example of  Jessica logan because when she sent her boyfriend an  inappropriate picture he sent it out to everyone and she began to get bullied which ruined her online and offline life, and it led to suicide.

Slide 9- Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology

.Mashups- Altering a piece of content so as to embarrass or insult the subject

Trolling- Posting online comments or content with the sole purpose of inciting anger in others.

Slide 10-  Bystander - Take action by posting words of support for the victim.

Victim- Block the bully.

Bully- It takes much more energy to be mean than it does to be nice.

Slide 11- Don’t post any personal information online – like your address, email address or mobile number.

Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself.  Once you’ve put  a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.

Keep your privacy settings as high as possible

Never give out your passwords

Don’t befriend people you don’t know on the internet

Internet Survival Guide

  1. The internet changed communication because back then you had to do more stuff to get in touch with somebody or contact them, now all you have to do is push one button.

     2.  Immediacy is like when you post something it could get around fast. Permanence is when you post something it would forever be permanent it will always be always be on the internet. Lack of Control is like if you post something and someone screenshots it before you delete it you lose control of what you posted even if you didn’t mean to i guess someone could post it or do whatever with it.

     3. Two ways you can manage and protect your identity online is never putting personal information on the internet or any social media sites. You can use a nickname or anything. Protecting yourself offline is like being who you are online and offline so there won’t be no problem with catfish and stuff.

      4. In my opinion i don’t think the internet has rules but social media does like if you were to buy a new computer right now when you open it it won’t have a page of rules but then again i really don’t know because there are rules and regulations to the internet.

    5. To me cyberbullying means when someone is getting embarrassed or humiliated thru the internet thru technology or a mobile device.

   6. Two kinds of cyber bullying is harassment and threatening , harassment is like intimidating someone online or someway thru the internet. Threatening someone is like harming someone thru the internet.

   7. Bullies don’t bully, Bystanders don’t watch they get help, Victims stand up for there themselves.

   8. Your Top 5 tips for using the Internet                                                                     ________________________________________________________________

1. Internet change communication by letting us talk or text people from far away. One example is FaceTime. It allow you to see the person you are talking to. Just like if was in person, face to face. 2. Immediacy- When something spread quickly.

Permanece- When something you post stay there forever.

Lack of Control- When you lose possession of something you post

Permanence online is when you post something and it stays there forever. For example, you can post something you regret on an old account that you lost the password to. How are you gonna take it down if you don’t know the password for that account. Offline whatever you did in the past, stays with you forever.

Lack of Control online is when you post something and take it down, but someone screenshot it or has a copy of it. For example you post a picture you didn’t like. You take it down, but someone took a screenshot of it and repost it. You can’t take it down cause it’s not your account, but you can try to ask them to. Offline example is when you tell a lie and it start spreading to everyone.

4. You can actively manage your identity by posting ok picture of you. So when you look up your name on Google, someone else with the same name and a bad reputation doesn’t pop-up.

You can protect your identity and your reputation is not to post anything stupid. Think before you post.

5. The internet does not have rules, but websites does. For example Instagram, if you post anything and you get reported. They can either ban you or give you another chance and just delete that account. You can’t get ban from the internet, but from website because websites has rules.

6. Cyberbullying is like bullying someone in public, but online. One type of bullying is trolling. Trolling is messing with someone and trying to get a reaction from them. Another on is shaming

7. Victim- Ignore them
  • Bullies- Just think before you do something stupid.

DAPL - Students Standing with Standing Rock

Research and summarize updates about Standing Rock and Dakota Access Pipeline. Make use of social media to gather information.

  1. How are people using social media to fight for social justice in this particular situation?

    1. Tweeting, Hashtags, Checking in and Live streaming on Facebook

  2. Research hashtags people have been using.

    1. #NoDapl, #StandingRock, #Waterislife, #NativeAmericans, #NorthDakotaPipeline #BoycottSunoco

  3. How effective are these methods of action?

    1. They’re helping people spread awareness of the situation. They don’t have to even leave their home to check in to Standing Rock. They won’t find who are actually at the protest to protect the protestesters.

  4. What is environmental justice and role does social media play in fight environmental justice?

    1. EJ is when every is treated fairly no matter  their race, income, ethnicity, etc. Anybody is able to post on social media regardless of their backgrounds.

  5. What do you think can improve the strategy?

    1. The strategy can be improved by people actually creating barriers in their own cities. I mean that people should boycott companies that supported this project and show them how much of a negative impact their decisions can have.

Read: Norway's Largest Bank Sells Assets in Dakota Access Pipeline Company.  (Links to an external site.)

  • Summarize and write your opinion to the article

    1. This article was about how a major Norwegian bank is backing out its investment into the Dakota Access pipeline. ETP may also miss their deadline to have their pipeline finished in order for the oil companies to use it. Contracts will be lost. One of the barriers that is stopping the pipeline from being finished is the permit they need to drill through the Missouri River. If the deadline is up, oil companies may have to back out of the project. This article shows the positive outcome of activism. When something is wrong it has to be known by everyone. The Norwegian bank got into its senses realizing the evils that it invested its money into. When something is wrong people will find justice and the evil doers will lose. The ETP is paying for their poor decisions by not being able to finish their beloved pipeline.

  • Seeing as that a big shot foreign company just divested from DAPL, what would you like to tell the American people to do? How can the American people and government create an environmentally just America? Be specific and explain why your suggestion is helpful in creating a just society.

    1. American people need to rise up against their ignorance. There are too many people shrugging things off just because it may not be their problem and that is very selfish. I know that I used to be like that. But, my education has led me to care more about our world and future together as a human race. I’d like Americans to read the headlines in the least to inform themselves of what may be going on in our world and to think within themselves of how can I make a difference for tomorrow. The government and people may need to collaborate and think of guidelines we need to sustain in our everyday lives. We need to work together in order to reach our goal of environmental justice.
