Dissociative Identity Disorder
This benchmark gives a simple description of a healthy and non healthy brain with Dissociative Identity disorder or D.I.D. From this project alone I learned a lo about how our brain functions. Depending on the size of the parts in your brain. In this case if it's too small you won't be able to use it to it's full ability. Although people can survive and properly function without certain parts of their brain. With that being said only certain parts of the brain will be affected.
Schizophrenia
In this Project we learned the different ways schizophrenia affects the brain and I learned that schizophrenia tends to affect people more as they get older and it usually worsens rather than get better. It effects the person's limbic system which is the system that control's their emotions and this causes them to be unable to know the difference between what is real and what isn't. Doctors usually prescribe an anti-psychotic drug to hep with this.

Alzheimer's Benchmark Q3
In this project, we had to pick a disease and explain its effects on the nervous system. My group picked Alzheimer's Disease, which is a disease that is mostly affecting the brain's nerve cells. This in turn causes problems such as, lack of emotional control, lowered awareness, loss of memory, and the list goes on. There are treatments for it, but a cure has not yet been developed. One of the interesting treatment I find interesting is the one with the herb called "Yerba Santa" (or holy herb in English.)

Schizophrenia
In this diagram you will find out how our disease Schizophrenia affects the brains nervous system. We include definitions of the different parts of the brain and what the effects can do to damage the brain. Overall I learned a lot about schizophrenia much damage it can cause. This disease can change your whole life around and we need to make sure that people are aware of it and get the proper treatment needed if they are affected by it.

Throughout the project, I have learned many things about the brain and comas. For instance, I've learned how there are multiple states you can be in when you suffer a serious brain injury such as vegetative state and complete unconsciousness. I do wonder however if there will be anyway possible to wake people up in comas who have been there for a long time.
Coma Benchmark with Dexter and Lamier
When we worked on this project, I learned a lot when it came to how the brain works when it goes into a coma. This project was quite similar to the sports project we did previously as it included brain injuries that could also potentially induce a coma. What's quite interesting is that the brain is in a state of very low activity when in a coma, using itself to heal and to help the person recover. When the brain is in a minimal state of activity, it also sets off a hormonal imbalance and induces swelling. There is still so much we don't know about the brain.

EMOTION AND MOTIVATION
Throughout the benchmark, my group members were amazed by how the specific parts of the brain reflect on specific emotions. We thought that the brain was just all one big blob that had one part that showed how your emotion was affected, but in fact, we were wrong. Your emotions are shown all over the different parts of the brain. The key learnings throughout the benchmark were the anatomy of the nervous system and how it is affected by our emotions. The hypothalamus plays a role in the activation of the sympathetic nervous system, which is a part of an emotional reaction. This was important in our findings. This was such a fun project that my group members and I had to complete.

Emotion & motivation
My group did a project on emotion and motivation and how it affects the brain. I have learned a lot about the limbic system and how it plays a role in the physiological processing of emotion. I have also learned how the hypothalamus is an important emotional center of the brain.

My group did a project on emotion and motivation and how it affects the brain. this was a new experience finding out how emotions are actually processed in the brain and where it is located. Learning this information showed me about having homeostasis in the brain and how it can easily be disturbed. there are so many different systems involved in the use of emotion and motivation that I didn't know where connected. The information about the neurotransmitters was entertaing to say the least. that was the information that we found a lot on and it was a lot to take in. the neurotransmitters are connected with the hormones and how it travels around the body. there is so much more but you can find that out in our presentation !
Schizophrenia and The Brain
My group did a project on schizophrenia and how it affects the brain. I did not know much about schizophrenia besides the fact that it's an illness. However, after this project I learned more about it like what happens in the brain of someone with schizophrenia and the medication that people with schizophrenia take - also that the medicine comes with some drawbacks. I learned a lot about which neurotransmitters are affected by schizophrenia and which parts of the brain is lost with someone with schizophrenia. I learned about how people with schizophrenia cope and what they have to deal with. I learned how/why people with schizophrenia are sensitive to touch and "over-exaggerate" pain - or feel nothing. It was a good project, even though it was hard to understand at times.

I learned that combining drugs for schizophrenia patients is more beneficial than just the antipsychotic drugs they are given. Doctors usually prescribe their patient an antipsychotic drug and later on an antidepressant, mood stabilizer, or benzodiazepine. They conducted a study to prove which one is more beneficial to the patient.

Throughout this project, I learned that Schizophrenia affects brain tissue and in the beginning stages they seem to have less brain tissue than a normal brain. After the first two years, their brain tissue is lost. People with this disease could Antipsychotic, Medications, Therapy, Seeing A Specialist, Known as Incurable Disorder.
Coma Benchmark
In this project, I was able to learn more about the brain and how it is affected during a Coma. There were so many aspects to the problem of the brain suffering a coma. I've found this project to be highly similar to the previous project when I was working on the sports physiology which was overall interesting. The most common form or way a person can get injured to the point of going into a coma is a head on collision. This relates back to the American Football project because helmet collisions are also strongly correlated to traumatic brain injuries. One of the most important things that I have learned from researching the Coma is that the brain is not technically "dead" when suffering it. Instead, the brain is going through a phase of minimal activity, or minimal consciousness. This is when the brain slows down and uses this in order to rest from the injury. This results the coma, and in addition, the person suffering the coma would not be able to respond to any stimuli or pain. This is important because Coma patients would not be able to gather resources in order to survive and need help manually in order to live. Another interesting fact is that there is imbalanced hormonal control present when the patient is suffering a coma, and that there are specific medications which patients take in order to reduce swelling of the brain. Overall, I found this project to be extremely interesting, I was able to learn new terms of the brain and how medications are able to help it by reducing swelling. I also found it interesting how there are organizations that are dedicated to finding cures for the Coma.
