Mercury Exposure

In our PSA video we talked about Mercury Exposure, we were interested in this topic and chose it because we've never heard about Mercury Exposure before and wanted to learn more about what is it and what it does. I contrubuted in the project by helping with research, editing the video and helping with our script. I think what we could have done differently was make our scipt flow and make a little more ense for our psa. The most meaningful part of this was learning about mercury exposure and the harms it causes.

Oil Spills Q2 environmental science

My group and I decided to do focus our project of oil spills. Oil spills are not really talked about so we chose this topic in order to bring awareness about the dangers and how it can affect humans. I contributed to the project by helping create a way that we could present this presentation to people. we made a news broadcast and also went around and asked people what they know about oil spills. We did well bringing the whole project together and also managing our time. I do not feel like we needed to change anything. The most meaningful thing about creating this PSA was providing ways to prevent oil spills.

Mercury Exposure PSA

My group and I chose Mercury Exposure as our topic for the content of our video. We talked about the cause of the problem, who and how the environment is affected and how different regions are working to take care of the problem. The most common way people in the U.S. are exposed to mercury is by eating fish containing methylmercury.  Philadelphia workers are practicing mercury free dentistry, when people get their teeth filled there is mercury found in the filling so they want to exempt this so that no one is affected.

I did the first checkpoint on my own which is where all the information came from to do the following checkpoints, I also finished the checkpoint early so that there was extra time left just in case the group needed more time making the video. This helped with checkpoint two and three because since the information was already researched, we could then make up questions that were already answered in the first checkpoint.

Something I did well was finish the first checkpoint to help my group excel and something I wish I would have done more of is spoke in the video but my group member had the ideas for the video so I didn’t need to speak as much.

The most meaning part of the video I would say is that mercury exposure goes unnoticed while it is actually as dangerous as lead being in the water pipes inside of our schools and homes. I’d say people need to be more mindful of what they consume as well as just doing some general research on the environment.

Oil Spill PSA

VIDEO

For this PSA my group and I studied oil spills, we chose this topic because years ago there was a large oil spill in the gulf of Mexico, but many people were unaware of the affects. I wanted to go further into the topic mostly because the first thing that came to mind when someone says oil spills to me, I think about the dawn commercials. In our video we highlight the affects of oil spills and investigate what knowledge our school community has. In this project I did some of the research, threw out ideas for the video and acted as the videographer for a majority of the recording , I feel like I cooperated well, but I would've liked to throw more ideas out there, and be more active in the group. A meaningful part of the PSA for me was the interviews I was very shocked to find out that not many people knew what oil spills were, and they didn't remember the dawn campaign. I think bringing awareness to the subject will bring a new light to being environmentally aware.

Q2 Benchmark Littering PSA

For our quarter two benchmark, my group and I decided to make a PSA about littering. Although part of the beginning sounds more like a PSA to minimize the use of plastic bottle we later go into more depth on what litter can do to our environment. One of the reasons we chose to do this topic was because Philadelphia has a big littering problem and we wanted to raise awareness on how it is affecting our environment. In the process of this project, I helped with gathering information to put together in a slide show and filming parts of the skit. Something I thought we did well was including humor into a serious topic. However, towards the end, it feels like we threw together all of the pieces we were missing from the rubric into the slides instead of incorporating it into the skit. I think that the most meaningful of creating this PSA was learning more about how litter not only affects the living organisms such as humans and animals, but also the soil and plants.

Toxic Waste is a no no

So our video is literally just the 3 of us talking about the toxic waste.  Labaron introduces the topic, Emmy talks about the issue, and I talk about what we can do to stop the issue. We chose this topic because we think toxic waste is a very huge issue that isn't talked about enough. We need more people to learn about it. Also, we think toxic waste is the most interesting topic to do. The role I did for the group was talking about the solutions for the issues. I think I did a good job speaking loudly in the video and finding a lot of solutions for the issue. However, we could've made the video longer since it was only 3 minutes long. I think the most meaningful part of the video is telling about how the issue can be solved and why it's important to be solved.

Oil Spills

In this video me and my team of experts walk around the school asking people what they know about oil spills. They know nothing so we take it upon ourselves to create a video education people about oil spills. We tell them about how they happen, the affects on the environment and then clean up and further steps that could be taken. We chose this topic because people never really learned oil spills in school and it was just a topic I personally wonder about.

I contributed to the project by helping to write the script. Also coaching everyone on what to say a long with filming and editing the video together.

I think I filmed and all the editing for the project went really well for me. I feel like I could've taken the script more seriously.

The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was the freeze frame at the end.

Water Pollution

For my second quarter environmental science benchmark, my group members and I completed a PSA video of the importance of water pollution. One reason we chose this topic was to raise awareness of how bad water pollution affects our earth negatively. One thing my group members and I did well was stay on top of our checkpoints and keep in contact. The most meaningful part of this PSA was being able to learn and expand my knowledge of water pollution. Check out our PSA here!
