Q3 Computer Science

My project was about reinventing the game that Cyrus and I worked on in fifth grade. Our goal was to make the game cleaner and easier to look. There’s nothing new that I hoped to learn because everything that we did was previously done. We didn't start off doing this. At first we were going to try to make the arduino interact with the game, but we couldn't figure it out. So, we just decided to remodel the game, and then next year try to do what we were going to do. We failed when trying to make the arduino interact with the app, but everything else worked. I learned that we should have more realistic expectations for what we want to produce. Everything that we wanted to do wasn't really realistic for the amount of time that we had. Something that I learned about myself was that I sometimes over due it with expectations when I know my limits. We would make my expectation our expectations a little lower than they were before. Be realistic with your end product. Don't do something that would take too much time or something that you couldn't do in a reasonable amount of time. This project inspired me to work on it more to make sure I have what we did. Since we did this previously the things that we use hindered our ability to do the project because it was so old.

Media Design Q3 Final Project: Video Editing

For my project for quarter 3 I decided to do a video project. I couldn’t complete this video without my partner Ivan Gutierrez. For our video project we decided to do a comedy video on asking people random people in our school videos. The goal for the video project was to create a video that can be a powerful messenger and a quick way to share a laugh, an idea or make a statement. In order to complete our video project me and my partner Ivana had to first come up with a concept for a video that we would both enjoy doing. To complete this video we used a video editor called wevideo. It was hard for us to come up with a video Idea at first until we saw some videos on YouTube about riddles. When watching the videos we thought it was a great Idea for a video because the purpose of a riddle. During this project we had encountered many failures. Some failures we encountered were losing videos clips, not enough storage on phone and background noise was too loud in the video to hear the questions being asked to the person. Ivana and I overcame our failures by recording our videos over again in a place that was more quiet. Also we saved our videos we had got done to drive so we could put the videos on our laptop to edit. We did this because when we sent the videos from our phones to our emails the videos came out blurry.  From this project I learned that, it takes a lot of time and effort into recording and editing videos. Also learned that it is really fun to make video projects with friend. I learned that I enjoy making videos even though it is a lot of work put into. I also enjoy making people laugh. If I were to redo this project differently I would change how me and my parent planned to do things in and out of class. I also making sure I have a phone or camera that has enough storage. I would also watch more videos on how to edit videos. If someone were to attempt to complete this project I would tell them to, plan ahead what you want to do, make sure you have enough storage to record and also make sure you have good sound and lighting in your videos. This project has inspired me to create more videos that I would enjoy creating. The videos editor we used for our project had helped us convey the message we were trying to covey to the audience.  Overall I had a fun time creating this project with my partner Ivan. I like how our video turned out in the end even though we had encountered many failures.Although we had many setbacks our video turned about how we envisioned in the end.

Joshua's Image Editing Project

Image Editing Project
Image Editing Project

My image editing project was an attempt to show a decision we make everyday, but in our lifetime; that’s deciding whether we want to do good or bad. My photo was supposed to show two roads. One leading to God ( good ) or the Devil ( bad ). Throughout this project I had hoped to learn how to edit pictures and to step out of the box and be more creative or artistic. I was struggling a lot throughout this project. The first struggle was getting my mind to realize that it’s not that hard if I would just try. I’m not artistic at all, so I automatically thought I would fail. I got over that thought when Ms. Hertz let me know it’s about perfection, it’s about a lesson. I like to learn, so it was easy for me to adapt to that. Another problem I went through while completing this project, was the software. I was using the wrong software for the first 3 checkpoints so it was hard, and not until the 4th one Mrs. Hertz noticed it when I kept telling her how complicated it was, she had to see why. The old software wasn’t so much hard to understand, but it was very limited. I had big expectations for myself, and I couldn’t do nearly what I wanted. There were very few limitations on the correct software, but it was hard to use. I realized that was okay, because that’s why I’m doing the project; to learn it. My project didn’t turn out how I seen it in the beginning but I believe with the knowledge of the software I gained during this project, if we had to do it again, I would do way better. A failure in the process that I encountered was using my time wisely. We had a week in-between every checkpoint, but I was trying to do the most without enough time. I

overcame this challenge by just lowering my goals and expectations which isn’t a bad thing. I just had to adapt to the time. Throughout the completion of the project, I learned how to use the software on a basic level good enough to edit a photo. I’ve learned about myself also, that I expect myself to be good at everything I do and it’s okay to not be. Also that I have to handle myself better under pressure. I felt like when it was time for the deadlines I would get mad at myself for not having something perfect to present and that made me miss a deadline because I felt like it wasn’t good enough. If I was to do this project again, I would handle my time better and take advantage of my free time if I want to meet or exceed expectations. That’s a tip I would have for someone completing this project, have a dated plan and use your time wisely.

Road sign for animals

For this quarter I chose to do graphic design. I felt like it would be a bit similar to image editing which is what I did last time. For my project I did a road sign for animals. I really like animals and in some places poaching is a big issue. The point of my road sign is to warn animals that there are dangerous poachers ahead and to turn around.  I used pixlr to make my road sign. I made a pentagon and used the color fill tool to make it bright yellow. I used the text tool and wrote “watch out for humans” on the sign. I’m not sure if animals can read but for my project just assume that they can. I added photos of commonly poached animals to my sign and blood splatters. I overlayed these photos. Finally I made my sign transparent. I did this by cutting out the sign and adding a background and clicking transparent. It was a bit difficult figuring out how to make the background transparent but after watching some videos I figured it out. During this project I learned that I am good at asking questions and problem solving when I am stuck. This project has actually inspired me to spread awareness about poaching and it is surprising the amount of people that are not aware of this issue. I love using pixlr and it is very simple to use for the most part.

I designed my stop and think sign for people who make bad decisions. If I was to put this sign in bad neighborhoods, at lights, corners, etc, it may change the decisions people make. Maybe before somebody is about to rob someone and they see this sign, they may stop and think about what they’re about to do. It took me nearly a week to complete this project since it was hard to use the Pixlr tools. By the time I got it all figured out it was close to due. Throughout this project I realized I have little patience since I got frustrated every time something didn’t look the way I wanted. I wanted to quit and not do the project but I overcame it and finished. For anyone attempting this project don’t use the Pixlr tool, it’s way too complicated. Try and find a simpler one that offers tutorial.

Although, using Pixlr helped me convey my message. By importing the hand and thinking emoji, I was able to get my point across. I used a yellow and blue background to catch people's attention. Using a color that everyone sees all the time, people won’t pay attention to it. But using a color like yellow that’s not usually used on signs people will stop and read my sign. This project has inspired me to keep graphic designing. If I were older doing this project I would put more time and effort into becuase I would have a longer time period to complete it.

3D Modelling

3D Modeling is a fun project and what it is is building a 3D model basically and then we can choose to print a 3D image and the goal is to learn something new and have fun and make a cool design. I didn’t hope to learn anything I just wanted to make a 3D design. So, first I started to work in a clario website then decided to switch because I couldn’t figure it out. Then, I looked up tutorials for tinkercad and figured out how to make my design. My only failure was working in the other website. I didn’t learn a lot because I took a 3D modelling class in 9th grade. I learned that if I set my mind to anything I can get it done. I would fix my design if I could redo my project because the print came out bad because of that. My only tip is to have fun. The tool I used helped my ability to convey that you can make anything by me printing and trying something new and doing well at it.

Dance is Life

I have created the ballerina because I wanted to draw something that would represent me and what I love to do. I was hoping to achieve showing my personality through my work and showing how creative I am doing it. I think my work communicates to the viewer that the definition of my ballerina is very exquisite and the way that I used the background to bring my drawing out was nice. I have achieved outlining the figure to have straight lines and I also achieved in printing the figure out very nice. My current work relates to my previous work because of the definition that I used for my previous one I used on my current work. An example of contemporary art that is similar to mines is the artist Stephen Mackey. His drawings of Arcadia Contemporary is like mines because his use of dark in the background to bring out the main point of the picture is what I did for my painting. Also his use of colors I would definitely say contrasted together like mines.

The process I used to create my work is I first drawn my figure. Then I transferred my image to my linoleum and traced it. After that I used some tools to carve the figure the way that I wanted it. After this whole process, I started printing my linoleum onto a paper and I chose to do a pink background because I felt like it would have made the ballerina pop out more. Then I was finished after that all I had to was scan my paper. My inspiration for this was me and my personality and what I love to do which is dancing. My work reflects the world I live in and my experiences because this is really all I know to do besides volleyball. My work can influence people to know that you don’t have to draw what everyone else see and know, you can draw something that you know, learned, and love to do. A certain technique is important because like say you're drawing a picture and the way you hold your pencil is important if you want the lines to be hard or soft or curvy or straight it’s all in the wrist. A new technique that I learned is how to carve at a certain angle and basically how to carve linoleum in the way that you want to carve it.

In conclusion I learned a lot from this project and hope that I can have more experience with it in the future because there is many ways that I can do stuff with linoleum cut.

Shaded Flowers

For our quarter 3 art project, we had a list of options we could chose from to create something. Personally, after the one I did last quarter I didn’t particularly like any of the other choices. But, the most interesting to create to me was the Value, Line and Texture Drawing. Speaking in a perspective of someone who doesn’t have much art experience or a lot of skill, I think this was the most simplest to create. You can come up with anything while doing a project like this because putting value, line and texture into one drawing is something easy to do. It's a collaborative process which creates something unexpected and beautiful in the end. My overall vision for this project was to be as simple as possible but to also bring a pop to it as well. I think brings a good vibe because of everything incorporated into it.

The process I used for this project isn’t complicated nor did I try to make it something that I knew it wasn’t going to be. I involved basic things; colored pencil and marker. But, to make sure there was texture within the drawing and to make it have value, I had to shade differently to make it pop. By shading differently, using my colors effectively and making my lines bold, they all work together to make a more eye catching piece. This artwork is quite different than my past projects because I usually try to go above for my grade. Now, I am trying to make my pieces subtle and that makes them not so harsh. I feel like using simplicity as a key factor in creating something makes your art more presentable. Trying new techniques always makes my work look different, but I feel like that really shows in this piece.

Not much came together to make this artwork. I never usually think too much about my projects. But, I do think that it shows that not much is needed to create something beautiful. I also feel as though using your imagination is a key point in art as well. Techniques are a big point in making your project the way you want it to look. And as an art student, I take past mistakes and other techniques into consideration while creating something new. Nothing major comes out of anything I create. The only way my art work impacts me is making me feel confident in myself when I get compliments or if I think it looks good. Art doesn’t have a direct definition in how it is suppose to look so I feel like whatever you do is going to make its own statement; that is what I took out of this quarters project.
