This project is based on the day of the dead, "El Dia De Los Muertos". We created  a mask and a sugar skull, with colors and elements that represent the person we  based them off to honor their memory. Taking into account that the day of the day the day people honor the memories of the loved ones that have passed away.

I thoroughly enjoined doing and creating this project, there was a lot of freedom and personality from me and my partner can be shown. Our story is called "El Mal Doctor". This story translates to the bad/evil doctor that is a huge fear of our main character. The main character is Miguel, his mother just told him about his doctors appointment and he begins to throw a temper-tantrum. Miguel get very tired from being so worked up and takes a nap before his appointment. When Miguel falls asleep, he also falls into a bad dream. This dream is about the doctors office and the doctors visit. Everything is dark and scary, there are snakes, spider webs, crocodiles and sad children everywhere. Miguel is called into the office and everything takes a big turn when the doctor takes out a needle. Just before Miguel is pricked by a needle he wakes up from his bad dream and it is time to go to his actual appointment. Miguel and his mother go to the doctors and everything is different than it was within his dream. There are happy children and beautiful nurses. At the end of his visit he leaves with a tasty lollipop from the friendly Dr. Lopez. El Fin.

In this project we had to find a college to and create an interview based on the college. I posed as the college recruiter while my partner was and interested student who was being interviewed. 

College Interview Project

For Spanish 2 in the first quarter, we were instructed to create a mock trial for a college that we would like to do. For my project, my partner Caylin and I did the college that I want to go to, Spelman. I enjoyed doing this project, because I learned new things about my college in researching for the project. If I could do this project differently, I wouldn't have rushed recording the video, because I stumbled over some words, and I didn't speak up as loudly. But, overall I enjoyed this project. 

Children's Spanish Book

​My partner, Shaylyn, and I wrote "Elena y el Brazo Roto". It is about Elena falling and breaking her arm on her birthday - which is supposed to be a good day. She has to go to the hospital, and is in a bad mood. When she gets back home, there is a surprise birthday party waiting for her! 

This project was to build upon basic communication skills mastered in Spanish II. The goal is to create a produce that engages students in the creation process, and to use as an educational resource.

This project was about celebrating a life, of the Day of the dead. I decided to focus this project on my favorite cousin. He was a influential role model to me. I miss him dearly. I have fun creating the art aspects of this project.

In Spanish 2 we wrote a childrens book in Spanish. Me and my partner Zach choose to write about a child named Pablo. Pablo was checked out of school for an dentist appointment. We presenting the book in front of the class and asked questions at the end. I drew most of the pictures and Zach wrote the book.

This was one of those projects I had mixed feelings about, I didn't really understand it until it was too late and I was not able to make the project as good as I could have. For this we had to use ser and estar in a basic conversation, however,  we also needed to define when we use ser and estar, make a video of us talking, and include pictures. I have learned to always look over the rubric many times  and if I still don't understand I need to tell someone. I did, however, love this project once I understood what to do and I think it was a very fun way of using basic conversation while also learning about ser and estar. Anther important thing I learned was to always use the documents that the teacher gives you.

College Interview Video

For this Spanish project we were put into groups. As a group we had to do research on a college. The video had to be 5-7 minutes. The objective were to use our communication skills, having a realistic conversation. The goal of this project is to create a dialogue that will include a college interviewer and a potential candidate, as the interviewee.

Hola fellow Sla students. Here is a project that me and mi amigo Kahsir Jones did for Spanish 2. This project involved having a simple conversation in Spanish with certain requirements. Overall, I really enjoyed this project. It got me a little closer to understanding Spanish. While I still have much to learn in Spanish, I'm confident that I understand the concept.

For this project, we had to create a powerpoint that helped people understand and comprehend the difference between ser and estar. We had to compare conditions vs characteristic and compare locations and origin and describe the rest of the categories. We also needed a video example for each slide to show that we know the difference between each categories and know how to use them correctly.

Dia de los Muertos

For a Spanish 2 project, we were asked to remember the death of a loved one, and then create a sugar skull in their likeness and to then perform a eulogy. However, doing the sugar skull aspect of the project was against my religion. Instead, for my project, I did the eulogy aspect of it. I gave the history of who my Great Grandmother was, and I enjoyed doing it. In reflection, I wish that I wouldn't have waited until the night before to record, because I ran into some difficulties with the site I used.

Spanish Book

My partner Josh Bowers and I made this children book about a boy named Miguel who gets sick and goes to school. Miguel's mom forces him to go to school even though he is sick. He throws up and goes to the nurse. He then goes home and eats with his family and ends up feeling better at the end of the story. We found pictures online, printed the story, and colored the pictures in. This project was one of the better ones because we got to use our creativity to make the story as interesting as possible.

For this video, we had to create a college interview video. We had to include certain components, such as shopping (shopping for food and clothes), extracurricular activities, and living areas. This was really fun to do, and although it was late I am still proud of it and how much effort we put in (although it could be better).

Katelynn Jasmine Vessels was born on September 18, 1998 and died July, 27, 2015. Katelynn was my best friend, my other half, my girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband. She’s my sister, not by blood but by soul; half of my heart and everything in between. Katelynn was the epitome of a fighter. If you went up to her and had a simple conversation with her, you would never think anything negatively about her life at home. She went through the saddest things but never let that affect the people who made her happy. What made her even more special is that she wasn’t one to complain. She constantly had people on her back, she constantly had people bringing her down and judging her. Telling her how to run her life. Even still she never let it stop her from living her life. Now that I look back, I feel awful for all the things that I would talk to her about because I feel like I sounded ungrateful. The things I thought I was going through couldn’t compare even the slightest to what she went through. Things got worse for her when she found out she was pregnant only at age 16. Of course finding out a loved one is pregnant at such a young age is disappointing to hear, however I made it my priority to make sure that I supported her because that was something that she needed the most. She carried the baby for about 6 months until a tragedy happened which caused her to lose baby Adrienne on June 3, 2015. Her reaction to the death of her baby was devastating. Katelynn was in the hospital for about 3 weeks then was instructed to go to a depression center to make sure she was taking care of herself physically and mentally. During these situations, a child wants their mother there the most, no matter what kind of relationship you may have, you always want your mom right there by your side. And she didn’t have that. Watching her go through that breaks my heart everyday. It was so important that I returned all the favors she's done for me. When a person doesn’t understand why things are happening, they start to blame it all on themselves. And that’s exactly what she did. She blamed herself for why her father left, she blamed herself for why she thought her mother hated her, she blamed herself for why her boyfriend of 3 years hadn’t visit her the entire 2 months of her being in the hospital, and lastly she blamed herself for the lost of her child. Her exact words were “I refuse to continue living my life in this terrible way.” At that moment, she became a person who I was unfamiliar with. To me, those were just words of her grieving. But to her, those were the words that made her decide to take her own life just a few days later.

When she was alive, I would always tell her that I didn’t know what I’d do without her and now that she’s gone, I really don’t know how i’m doing it. I guess it’s because I don’t have any other choice. I can’t say that it has been easy learning to live without her. I’ve come to the understanding that when I go to her house, it won’t ever be her who opens the door, or when I call her phone number, it’ll still just be her voicemail. I decided to create my sugar skull in remembrance of her because what I have learned is that Dia de los Muertos is for celebrating a person’s life not dwelling on the fact that they passed. I feel as though she deserves to be celebrated because I know that’s something she would do. She was such a joyful person, she would want me to remember her as an inspiration and i’m trying my hardest to keep that in mind. I truly want all of my words that I used to describe her to give off nothing but good vibes to people. And in the end, that’s really all I want for her, is for people to accept and respect her. I made my sugar skull to reflect Katelynn by painting the entire thing yellow. I chose yellow not because it was her favorite color but because yellow represents happiness and like I mentioned before that was an instant vibe that you got from her. I also chose to include red as a representation of strength. And lastly, I put glitter over the yellow for a super special reason. I think the glitter represents a covering for what’s on the bottom. If you think about it, when someone shows you something sparkly, you don’t think to ask what’s under it; all you see is that it’s sparkling and you like it. Katelynn put “glitter” on herself so that all you see is something pretty, she didn’t want people to know what’s really under it. She hated when people felt bad for her. She just wanted people to see her as your typically happy teenage girl.

Dia de los Muertos has opened up my mind to celebrating the passed loved ones because all the people whose deaths we care about i’m sure just want us to be happy. And this holiday isn’t about being sad. It’s about remembering all the good times that you have shared with that person. You think about how much joy you guys brought to each other. When someone you love and care about passes away, there is a strong temptation to remember them. Misdeeds are forgotten, offenses are forgiven. The hardest part of her passing is that I don’t feel like I told her I loved her enough. I use to blame myself and say “well maybe if i said it once more, that’s another day she’d be here” And I’d give anything to turn back time to do so. People say all great minds think alike. But I like to say all great hearts share a bond. And at the end of the day, she may be gone but our connection will remain unbroken.

Día de los Muertos means "Day of the Dead" Now when doing this project I've learned that this project isn't about being sad it's about celebrating the life of your past loved ones. It's about remembering all the good times and how they have affected your life positively 

College Interview Video

In this project Jordan and I were representing a college admission process for Temple University. In the video Jordan is interested in an engineering major and being an active player on the football team. In the video my role is being a helpful admission personal to help Jordan gain a better understanding of the school. Everything within our interview was factual based research talking about majors, the school grounds, housing and some of the meal options within Temple University.
