For my Capstone, I took the lessons of old philosophers, and apply in a practical way in order to try and learn about myself through their teachings. Through the wisdom of ancient and modern thinkers, I create an introspective dialogue where I understand my own emotions, think critically about my perspective of the world, challenge my old understandings of concepts and reach new ones, or create new opinions about things as abstract as morality or as specific as politics. The consistent theme is my proposed moral responsibility behind pursuing knowledge, and being self aware. I justify these investigations into the self by reason of accountability, something I explore in my writings also. My process began with a new level of attention payed to my passing thoughts. While ideas popped up in my head I would explore them when before I would dismiss them, trying to give reason to them, be they emotions or perspectives, and correct them if I discovered faulty reasoning that I had used because of complacent thinking. This was accompanied by application of research into general rules of life and thinking, ideals, and values proposed by popular intellectuals (Plato, Socrates, etc.). The product is a collection of small essays where I build upon my thoughts and improve them through criticism. Whether I explore past ideas, adopt new stances, or reinforce old ones, it is a practice in self improvement and introspection. The lessons this teaches are varied, but wisdom can't always be inherited.

For my Capstone, I decided to have a music showcase alongside my partner, Mark. The goal was to showcase our talents that we’ve been crafting together for our entire high school career, and long before. We also wanted to give other youth an opportunity to showcase and share their ideas with us in what musicians call a shed. This proved to be a somewhat grueling process. This process included finding a venue, obtaining equipment, tons of practice and rehearsal, and a lot of other detailing and polishing to make the event as successful as possible. The product, turned out to be an extremely enjoyable encounter. Overall, this experience taught me that there is a lot of work that goes into event planning, and every little detail could greatly affect the turnout. For this reason I’m quite happy to have chosen this for my senior Capstone.

Welcome to Haiti.

My name is Elizabeth. I am a young Haitian-American lady. For my capstone, I decided to do something that will help me figure myself out as an individual. I also did this because I wanted to broaden up my knowledge about my culture. I was not born in Haiti, but my father decided to relocate himself to the United States to start a new life for my mother and her two sons at the time. After a year a two without the love of his life, my father was stable enough to bring his wife and two sons to America, so that they can get the better education and opportunities they deserve. Being as though, I was not born in Haiti I wanted to do something that will better help me connect with my culture other than speaking the language, creole, frequently.

There are two parts to this capstone, the first part is a research paper on the country Haiti and my father’s journey to America. The second part is the mini course I taught. In my mini-course, “Welcome to Haiti”, I taught the students games that my parents would play as a child, I taught them basic conversations and numbers 1-10 in Creole and had them listen to Haitian music.

As a kid growing up, my dad used to take me and my brother along with him to help work on the jobs he ran. Most of these jobs usually dealt with carpentry, electrical work, and architectural design of things. After a while I started to like working and building things with my hands. This is the reason I chose to build something for my senior capstone. My senior capstone is an art cabinet. I decided to build this for my capstone because I never  designed, and built something fully on my own. I felt as though this gave me freedom because I didn’t have to ask anyone what to do or how should it look. My senior capstone might sound easy to some people but this is extremely false. My project took approximately 3 months to build. The reason being is because every measurement had to be correct in order for all the different pieces of wood to fit together perfectly. If the measurements was not correct then the integrity of the cabinet would be slightly off. Finally, once everything was well thought out and put together I sanded the wood and placed a fine wood coating on top. The shelves on this cabinet can be moved around to accommodate the appropriate artwork sizes. Overall, it took time, concentration, and patience to create such a good looking completed product. This is an huge accomplishment for myself.

I use this website to see the proper ways to cut the different pieces of wood. This website goes into detail about standard cabinet shelves, the size cabinets should be to accommodate the different weight and etc. Also it gave me ideas on how I should actually keep the wood together, either with wood glue or screws. Since my cabinet was so big I decided to do both.

http://www.aquaearth.co.za/drilling-techniques.html

This website is a website that gives me some basic drilling techniques. It is obvious that this can be very helpful for a person like me who does  not have much experience at all when it comes to actually building or using this equipment. I find it very important to have done this research before beginning the project because this material is not cheap and will not be easy to replace if things are done wrong. So, the use of the tools for the proper way is very iMportant here.

This website mostly gave me tips on sanding, wood staining. The tips included that even though with a table saw the pieces of wood can sometimes not be perfect, so the best way to make them most likely the same is to sand them all at the same time. It also was saying that the best way to stain a cabinet was to leave the back off because it is easier to paint an get into all the cracks so that the paint would be as even as possible.

This article I used as another source for sanding. This article is very brief it tells you the best type of sander to use so that the stain could stick to the wood as best as possible. Also it tells you that you should sand in the direction of the wood grain for best results.

http://extremehowto.com/cabinet-building-basics-for-diyers/

This article was useful because it gives you different ideas for cabinets. It shows you a plethora of cabinets and the category that they should be in. This is helpful because When building my project I wanted it to be sturdy and easily movable.

http://www.ana-white.com/2013/11/momplex/building-base-cabinets

Even though I did not build a base cabinet this website showed me the tools that I would most likely be needing to built My art Cabinet. Some of these tools include a table saw, jig saw, different grains of sanders, clamps. Also it included the best ways I should clamp the wood down and  screw another piece to it.

Abstract :

For my capstone, I choose to implement a high school student athletic trainer aid program right here at SLA @ Beeber. Sports have been a big part of my life since freshman year and all throughout high school. Though all the great time spent in the gym there was also the hard time to follow including injuries. This helped me realize the importance of athletic trainers as they were the ones that helped me get back on my feet. My final project includes a video of coach King giving one of his lessons to some volunteer and future athletic trainers in a classroom setting, along with other clips of demonstrations to help prevent injuries. This project has really been an eye opening experience for me as I learned a lot through the process. The more I learned about the human body I also gained knowledge on the wide variety of things that the athletic trainer knows. I gained a new appreciation for athletic trainers and learned that they are a viable asset to the medical field and rightfully so. I hope through my project you can gain the same appreciation.

My capstone is a series of sketches drawn in my sketchbook, to try and improve on my technique, and simply explore different ways to draw different things. This was meant to improve/find a different hobby that I felt could relive stress better than doing nothing at all.  The sketches are just that, sketches. Meaning that they aren't the best thing in the world, I was simply trying to improve on and develop another thing I could call a hobby.  A lot if it was just me practicing different techniques, some figure drawings, shading, body parts, etc. There are 3 actual drawings I did to act as checkpoints of sorts. I'm not going to post all of the drawings, only highlights.

My capstone was about society's intake on insecurities. I use social parties between Ethnicity, Gender, Sexuality, Religion, and Age. the Idea was to find any type of lines that connect any of these parties together through insecurities. I have decided to do this because I am a very well-spoken person with the alacrity to speak my mind but in an amiable way. I take into account other's feeling and definitely will soon understand psychology in many different ways and forms. I am planning on studying it because at a young age I was very emotional and have soon felt at one point, insecure. My reaction to this is "Why do I feel this way about myself?" whether I felt incoherent what can I do psychologically to help myself understand something that I have been feeling for over years and years to come? I wanted to break each and every part of insecurities down into small pieces and let people know that this is how society feels. This is why insecurities are link to hate crimes, homicides, suicides, many other unfortunate events. I am well aware what I want to do. I want to actually study the human brain and what makes the nerves "tick"

For my senior capstone, I decided to make a short film about malaria. I choose this topic because many people out there do not know about this disease, and the few people that know about it don’t know how dangerous it can be. I also wanted to show the world how we treat each other these days as a human. The purpose of my project is to teach young people about loving and caring for one another. I included this in my video because there are people out there who have lost their loved ones from malaria diseases and other people doesn’t seem to care about it because they are not in that situation. Creating this video was a little bit difficult for me because I had to focus on doing my school assignments and benchmarks and I sometimes forget that I have a capstone to work on. Also, getting people to be in the video was difficult. I had a little bit of a hard time editing the video but everything turns out to be really good.  I’m glad that I choose this topic because I have learned so much about malaria while doing my research, and I hope that people learn something from the video after watching it.

Quarter 4 Anatomy Benchmark: Teenage Pregnancy.

For my final benchmark for the course Biology Human Body, my benchmark was a Public Service Announcement regarding Teen Pregnancy.

The reason why I chose the topic teen pregnancy was because it was the topic we were given to talk about, in addition to the fact that Teen Pregnancy is a public health issue. There are too many teenagers out here that aren't taking the necessary measures to prevent themselves from becoming parents. They have to put their dreams and aspirations on hold because they have to care for a child.

When I reflect upon how I contributed to the project, I contributed quite a lot. I had wrote the majority of the script, and had even starred in the video, as the pregnant girl. The role I played in the group was the organizer and being the person who contacted the different organizations, as I kept all of our information in order, as well as contacting the people we were supposed to email.

I think that overall we did extremely well on the project. Our video came out nice, and we had good interview questions and answers, as well as the fact that our group had a wonderful dynamic. We laughed together, but when it came time to get work done, we got it done. I think that if we could do this project differently, I think we could have started the interview process a lot earlier, as we didn't secure an agency to interview until the last minute, as previous agencies just kept hanging up on us, or sending us to voicemail.

The most meaningful part in creating this PSA for me was the learning aspect of it. From conducting interviews, and doing research I learned that the importance of pregnancy prevention programs are more crucial then they've ever been, and that they should not be defunded by the new administration because then the rates will shoot through the roof, which is ridiculous.

The factors which relate to teen pregnancy are economics, politics, in addition to society. The role that I believe that society plays a role in teen pregnancy because if the environment the teenager is growing up in is surrounded by pregnant teens, then they'll feel compelled to do the same thing, and they have no proper guidance as to why this isn't the way they should go. Politics and economics plays a major role in teenage pregnancy because politicians in the Trump administration are working to defund Planned Parenthood, or reduce funding for other pregnancy prevention places, instead of seeing all of the good that these places offer.

Q4 Benchmark INDIVIDUAL final submission

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHYIVDlQdS8&feature=youtu.be
Our video basically about what is garden and what a garden needs. Garden is a place where there are flowers, plants and other staffs are growing. garden needs making sure that there are the necessary things like rich soil, suitable condition and enough water and there are a lot to be mentioned. A garden is a place where there is life for plants and other seen and unseen insects or alike things.
we are doing our benchmark based on our school's garden introducing the garden as well as the plants that are in biochem class that all students had to take care of theirs and gather hypotheses, guesses and other measures. to conclude we just introduce The garden of Science leadership Academy at beeber inside and outside of the building.

basically in this project I got some experiences of gardening as well as the needs of garden. the reading that we were reading about different things of gardening in different places helped me to change my previous misconceptions and misunderstanding about that.  how gardens are considered in our specialties, where they can have good condition and not, as well as what plants work of having nice and fresh gardens.
what benefits gardens have and how they can grow as well what insects they need. learning what id garden and what is planted is easy when you are curious doing that. it easy I think easy thing but needs to be continuous.
