Leo Piece

This project was fun and I had a great time creating this art piece. To be very honest my drawing for this project was the first thing that popped in my head but I like the way that it came out. The picture that I created was my zodiac sign which is a leo and the vines in the picture represent the jungle so I the piece the King of the Jungle. Some viewers might not be able to the zodiac sign because of the all of the vines but besides that it should be noticeable. Throughout the whole experience I did not have any issues besides printing but I feel like the carving went well and the drawing went well.

My old work and my new work are very different because my new work is more sophisticated and my was more kind of kid style. I first had to draw my picture and I made sure that it was neat then I traced the picture onto the linoleum and I carved around the picture. I used the iron to make the linoleum hot so it would be easier to carve. I did look up some pictures of my zodiac sign to help with the drawing and it did help a little bit. My work could influence other people because it makes a statement.

Linoleum Cut

Artist Statement Art 2

For my project I chose to do the Linoleum Cut. I chose to create this to help me out with my personal art. I was interested in printing stickers and thought this would be a good way to start. I remember learning a little about this in 9th grade but I never got a chance to make something of my choice. I wanted to basically create a stencil of the half faced character I use for street art which is shown below. The artist that i’m inspired by is myself because I am an artist. My work isn’t meant to communicate with viewers but the product of it does. It creates cartoon like characters that any people enjoy finding and seeing outside. Through the creation of this work I was able to complete my goal of creating the stencil. I will now be able to create more artwork at a faster rate. This adds on to all of my previous artwork and builds on to many different methods of  artwork. Street art in general is contemporary art and I am one of the many artists who contribute to it. Creating the stencil on the linoleum block isn’t hard at all. There’s only a few steps to follow. First, I drew my design on paper with a pencil. Next, I used transfer paper to transfer the design onto the linoleum block by placing the transfer paper on the block and tracing my drawing. This will place the material from the transfer paper onto the block in the places that were traced. Then, I traced my design on the block with a marker so my drawing doesn’t disappear while i’m working. Finally, I used the cutting tools to cut out my design. The tools have different blades and I had to carve away the linoleum in all of the negative parts so my drawing can be the only part sticking up. I made a few prints to test my cut and make sure everything is fine.I learned that it’s very important to cut deep and have sharp solid lines. I am planning to have a future in art and this project is helping me improve my craft. I learned that I do can create the same piece of art using many different techniques.

Q3 Art Project

Art

For my Q3 art project i created a sculpture combining a shoe clay, screws, feathers, and marker. The point and idea if my project was to create something I like or bring something I love to life. I love wearing converses so I came up with the idea of personifying one of my old shows giving it eyes a mouth and feathers. The sculpture represents many things for one skateboarding the feathers represent how I fly through the air when i do tricks and the eyes and the mouth are my shoe and feet coming to life whenever i do. I had a different idea for the project i wanted to give it hands a sculpted mouth, and horns to represent that my fear are monstrous when I'm skateboarding but I didn't use enough of my time to combine the sculpted hands and horn with the show. Which were sculpted out of clay along with the eyes that were already painted and done. I call the art piece “The monster in my converses”.

Mixed Media

For my quarter 3 art project, I wanted to do mixed media. I think media media is very cool and you can also physically feel the art of the canvas. For my mix media project, I wanted to do wings with actual feathers, with a pretty background,  little pendants and a quote. I chose to do this because I wanted it to connect to my grandparents that passed away and I never met them. The quote is in Arabic lettering, and it said “Think of Others”. This quote connects to my grandparents because even though I never met them and barely know them, I still think of them and how they would be.

I did many art works before, but this project is different because I haven’t really did a quote on a canvas. I always thought it was so basic, but on my art work, I put more materials on it. The process of my artwork on confusing. I kept changing my mind about different ideas. First I wanted to do an ombre background but at the end I decided to do a different background. The first thing I did was sketch my idea. Than I started of with my background, I painted it light brown, and than I put late in different places so I can add white. After the paint all dried up, I drew the wings and glued feathers inside the wings. Than I wrote the quote in bold lettering. After most of the work was finished, I added little navy blue pendants.

I would say, these artworks fits with what I made because My feathers were dark also, but yet they are beautiful. The artwork is very detailed like mine. In conclusion, my art work was kind of personal but not so. It’s a pretty art work, and a lot of people might think of something different when they see the art. But in the end of the day “The artist sees what others only catch glimpse of”.

For my project this quarter I decided to create a sculpture of a cherry blossom tree. I wanted to do a sculpture because I thought it would be a fun idea to create something out of different material like a mixed medium project. I wanted to make a cherry blossom tree because my name is Sakura and in Japanese culture Sakura means cherry blossom which is a tree. My overall vision for my sculpture project was for me to create a cherry blossom tree out of clay. I decided to not complete my at piece in clay  but instead copper wire. I decided to make the tree out of copper wire because when I was looking up videos of how to make tree sculpture I came across a video of someone making a tree out of wire. I thought that it was cool idea to make the tree out of the wire. I found out that it was easier for me to shape and make the branches with the wire than with the clay. The clay was too much of a hassle for me because the clay keep cracking and wasn’t holding it shape really. I think that I made a good decision to change my sculpture idea from clay to wire because it had a better turnout overall. I think my work shows the viewer that my art is a creative piece. I think I achieved the visually appeal my art piece draws to viewers. My sculpture relates to previous work because it is similar to mix media which is a type of art wear you use different materials to create an art piece. I believe my work fits in with sculpture  artwork.  When I looked at artwork on artsy.com I looked up sculptures. When I looked up and saw different type of sculptures I saw many similarities and differences between the artwork. Most of the art work I was on the website were made up of different materials like mines and others were made out of clay. When completing my benchmark had encountered  many failures during the project. The failures I had encountered was making the tree out of clay. This was difficult  to be because of how the clay keep trying out fast and how it didn’t really hold it shape well. I also had a hard time making the cherry blossom flowers out of clay. When I was frustrated with how things turned out with the clay I decided to go on YouTube and look up pictures online on how to create a cherry blossom tree sculpture. I saw that most of the sculptures on YouTube and online was made out of wire. After I saw a YouTube video of someone making a tree out of wire i decided to change my concept. When moving forward with my project I found that it was easier to make my tree out of wire because I was able to bend it many different ways to make the shape of the tree. For the truck of the tree I decided to do paper mache at the bottom so I could cover up the wire. I also wanted to put paper mache at the trunk of the tree because I wanted that part of the tree to be thicker and the braces be skinny. The branches for the tree was just made up of wire. I had painted the whole tree brown because the copper wire I used to make the tree was red. On the branches of the tree I had put pink flowers on their to represent cherry blossom flowers since it was a cherry blossom tree. I had made origami flowers which I learned how to do from YouTube. I really didn't like how the flowers turned out when I was done with them. However when I put them on the tree I thought it really made the tree look nice. My inspiration came from google and youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ojsLZxYcwA&list=WL&index=19

My work could influence people to step out their comfort zone and try new ways to experience themselves through art instead of traditional drawings and paintings. My work could influence people to step out their comfort zone and try to create new things that they want to make. From this project I learned that there are many ways to make a tree sculpture.

Q3 Art Project

I created this project because it stuck out to me .  When I saw it I remembered I completed something like it in middle school so I wanted to try it again since it has been a while.   When I saw the project I immediately thought I wanted to make a beach scene.  I love drawing the beach and wanted to see if I could make a print of it.  I like to make the leaves really detailed and I thought it would look really cool on the print.  When I actually did it, it was hard for the leaves to turn out on the page.  I think my work conveys to audience hard work.  I feel this way because I have four different images and it shows how I tried a few times before I got it correct.  Something I feel I achieved in this project was patience.  I admit it was annoying having to go back and heat up the print and keep carving.  Also when I printed and it didn’t come out right.  I gained some patience from all of this.  This piece relates to past work I have done as I have drawn many things with trees like this.  I enjoy making my work have beach scenes.  I feel my art relates to contemporary art/prints because of the style and colors.  For example I found this print I pictured here below.  We both used red and black and the fine lines in the painting reminded me of the tree in my print.     http://fengshui-paintings.com/823-Wall-Art-Canvas-Prints-Koi-Fish-Wall-Art-Contemporary-Art-Modern.html   (link to the painting)

What I did to create this was I made a sketch of my design.  Then after that I traced it onto another piece of thin paper to transfer onto the block I made the official print.  I carved the image into the block.  I had to put it under the iron to make it warmer and easier to use/carve it in.  After that I did some test prints, and then the official ones.  When I was doing the prints sometimes they came out too faint or too thick.  My only inspiration for this work was my past drawings.  My dad taught me how to draw palm trees and I have been doing it ever since.  My work reflects me because the beach is one of my favorite places to go.  I feel my work could be an influence on others who want to do print making to start if they want to.  A technique that was important to this art piece was the tin lines on the leaves of the tree.  I wish they showed up better on the print but they really make the tree look real.  A new technique I learned was heating the linoleum to make it easier to cut into.

What I have created with two original characters that I have created based on one of them wanting to be something that they weren’t and bring someone else. They wanted to be strong when they are seen as weak. They other was strong but had weak points. That’s why I created it as a Yin & Yang type image. The overall vision is that people can be similar, but people just hide it well. You  can be seen as weak, but you have a strong heart or vice versa. I wanted people to know they we all have similar abilities but some are more prominent than others.  I feel as though people will notice the yin & yang situation and understand the meaning for it first but they won’t notice the meanings that I placed within the entire images like the flowers with their individual meanings that represent the characters.I think I achieved a story for the characters that I create for myself and for others to see. I also think that I achieved something relatable if I explained it to them.I feel like I pushed myself a little more than usually because I usually avoid drawing anatomy because it isn’t my strong point in drawing. It shows that I’m trying to push myself to improve and do better. With contemporary art, my work is similar to this artist  ( Rebecca Gray Smith ) because  they did a similar yin yang concept that it had as well as the message it portrayed.

When I started making this project, I struggled to create a final image and then I finally went to the yin yang idea because I wanted them to be opposite of each other almost. After that, I struggled to draw the bodies that are flipped on both sides because it was something I wasn’t use to. Once that was finished, I breezed through everything else.I reflects on how everyone can have similar things in common but it takes a lot of digging to find the attributes, personalities , etc., of another person. It reflects on how I noticed that a person can be viewed as one thing but with closer friends and family, they’re something different.I think it can influence people to not judge others as much as they do. They may not even realize that the two have something in common based off of the physical image, which is wrong. Of course, everyone judges, but to verbally express your opinion to their face isn’t right.I don’t think any of the techniques I used was really important to it because they techniques I used were little basic. I had used to hatching for the inner circle to create a more of a drastic effect on the drawing. I also drew thicker lines for the outlines of the face and thinner lines for the small details since a thick would mess up the work.I think I only learned how to create better anatomy for males which I appreciate because that it my weak point.

Overall, I think I did the best with this project because I pushed myself to do something different and something that I struggled with. I would never get better if I never tried to do it. I’m also happy with the fact that I had had created those characters in such a short amount of time and had created story for them that wasn’t only good, but how relatable it was to me. I still feel like people can connect with it if only I explained it so not everyone might understand it but the basic points, which I think is good enough.

Q3 Project limited pallet

IMG_1033
IMG_1033
I decided on the limited color pallet project because I really enjoy painting even if it's not my strongest skill. I feel like acrylics are the best mediums to blend because the colors bleed into each other cohesively which is also why I choose the colors Blue, Black, and White because of the vibe they give and how they mix. The parameters around my project were based on an image I found and my goal was to recreate my interpretation of what resigned from the subject I found. I found it to be weird and intriguing in a depressed pessimistic way. I though the subject gave the sense of loss and confusion but also acceptance. This is what I wanted to convey in a similar was hence why the subject looks similar and have similar postures, and my creation has part of the subject leaving here which is the black substance coming from her mouth and why she fades into the background.

Overall I think I achieved my goal and others will read the sense of confusion, loss, and acceptance but I think it's one of my weakest acrylic paintings. I have similar pieces and some are worse but most are better. I think what caused a lot of the problems I encountered was the original sketch I struggled a lot and changed the position of the subject to many times.  I also had trouble with over thinning the paints with water on accident making parts patchy but at the end, i got the hang of it. I think my blending and shadowing needs improvement. They are also very important to adding dimension to a painting which parts of mine have and others don't. I began with a sketch on the canvas then, painted the background and began to block in color then added in detail layer by layer.

I think we’ve all felt lost I have a lot in life and I think that what drew me to this subject. I feel all art is personal in a way this case the subject just resonated with me emotionally. I think the fact that people create art, in general, is to connect and inspire people to express them self safely. I hope my artwork would do the same. I Was inspired by the photographer (Nanihta (Sol Vázquez) and their work and I hoped to create a similar impact.

Art 2 Artist Statement Quarter 3

I created this work because I was interested in carving out of the linoleum. I saw my classmates doing it last quarter, and was intrigued to carve something this quarter. My vision was to create a lion, not necessarily as cartoonish as it turned out, because the lion is my favorite animal. That was the main idea in my head, and I ran with that from the beginning. My work can be used as an encouragement to my viewers to be strong and always keep on looking forward. The fact that the lion isn’t perfectly cut out denotes that no one is perfect. However, you don’t have to be perfect to achieve your goals in life, you just have to be strong, and never give up. I achieved a sense of carefulness and delicateness because that is what this work required.

This work relates to my previous work because I looked at something I was interested in or I had just been looking at, and made it into a piece of art. Last quarter, I used a sandwich to create my artwork, and this quarter, I used my favorite animal to make a linoleum cut. This cut fits in with contemporary art because I can compare it with other modern linoleum cut artworks. One work I can compare it to is the Lion Linocut by Rowanne Anderson. Both of our works are of lions, and both are detailed with the tiny hairs that a lion has. Still, hers is more advanced because she completed it on a bigger piece of linoleum.

I started first with making my channels, and then I cleared out the areas I wanted to look white. Then I used the v-gauge to create hair, and also holes for whiskers. I continued to use the wider-curved knives to clear out bigger areas, and the v-gauge to do the smaller detailed areas as well as the channels. I only used this picture as inspiration for my work. My work reflects the world I live in because you have to be strong like a lion in order to achieve things in life. I, personally, believe I am strong, but gentle when I need to be. Rowing has required me to be physically and mentally fit, and because of the sport, I have grown in both of those areas as well as emotionally. I have been able to control my emotions and not let them get the better of me. My work could make the world a better place and have an impact on it by encouraging those who are discouraged, for any reason, to keep looking forward. Life isn’t done just because something doesn’t go your way. If anything, it opens up as an opportunity for you to learn from your actions. In creating this work, I had to be very careful so as to not make any bad cuts. This is a technique I learned and had to practice in order to get this work done.

Beautiful Fantasy

Adam Bennett - Artist Statement 3/20/17

Art 2

Ms. Hertz

This is an art piece that I replicated from Kanye West’s official Twitter profile picture, and I view Kanye as an inspiration to music. I created this because I wanted to show my appreciation of Kanye West, and what better way than to make a limited palette painting of his profile picture. Given that I don’t consider myself an artist in terms of drawing, I was hoping that I could recreate the picture using on three colors. I used blue, white, and red in the painting because the original picture has more of a blue background and his face is more like a dark red.

I think when the viewer first sees my work they might have the reaction of, “What in the world?” Besides that, to the people who actually know the picture they would actually appreciate the art piece. I think that I achieved my goal as to recreating the art piece using only the three colors I chose. Although I don’t think that I fully achieved my goal because some parts of the piece aren’t what I wanted them to look like. Regarding my previous work, I believe that I am pretty consistent as an artist compared to my previous work this work.

My work fits in because it is a recreation of George Condo’s art for Kanye West’s fourth studio album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He has that style of cartoonish and sort of realistic paintings, drawings, and sculpting. My process to create this work was looking for a clear image of the artwork. Once I did that, I had to pick three colors that stood out in the painting for my limited palette. Then, I fused the colors in a color template to create as many variations of the three colors that I could. This would be added to my final product once I started it.

N.p., 2017. Web. 23 Mar. 2017.

This artwork reflects the world today because today we see a lot of these styles around and I feel like since Kanye is still an inspiration today this piece matters. I don’t see connections to my own life nor experiences. My art could inspire people to look more at Kanye and appreciate him as an artist besides as a man with a huge ego. I learned a new technique called ombre to fuse the colors better in the background of the painting. I want to use this technique more in future pieces that I create because this really blended the blue in my background by using a big brush, and patting the colors so they fuse better.

Squishy

I created this work because I wanted to make something that was kind of disturbing but also cute in a strange way. I think octopi are disgusting, but really rad so this was the focus for the majority of the piece and the human in there took a backseat to the overall image. I’ve been told my work is generally creepy but I also received comments like “that’s cool/cute”, so I hope it’s portraying as I want to be because it definitely seems so. This was mainly inspired by this piece (nudity), so if I were to say how it fits with contemporary art I’d say it was inspired by art of today.

The way I made this is not particularly different than the way i’ve made other pieces, I quickly drew a profile a female and then pulled up references of an octopus, and drew from those to get what I wanted for the piece. I used stippling and crosshatching all along the octopus to create the rough surface they have on their skin, and kept refining my linework until i got to the product I have now. The most important technique used here was stippling which took the majority of the time to do but i’m satisfied with the overall effect of it.

My art doesn’t reflect anything in my life or my experience or anything deep like that. I don’t think any of my pieces ever do.

From the Heart

The project I created was something similar to value line and text drawing. I ended up doing this because I wanted to do my own project , but I realized I could do what I wanted following this criteria.  I drew multiple drawings on one page for a total of three days. Those drawings represented whatever I was feeling and what was on my mind. I then put them all together in a thought bubble. At first I was going to put in a heart , but I couldn’t get the shape right. I just wanted it to be great. I feel as though I accomplished that and when people see it, they will understand what runs through the adolescent mind/heart. Artist today doing something similar to this aswell. Ginna albeny is famous for this as well She even said,”I make art for a few reasons. In life, we experience so much fragmentation of thought and feeling. For me, creating art brings things back together. Our process in making our art and the amount of thought put into this work is equivalent.  At first it took me forever to create something. It’s very hard to force myself to make art of what I am feeling. I don’t like forcing those sort of things so I’d try listening to music until I felt something. Other than that I would start by asking myself how my day was. I didnt’t even get inspiration from anyone. I usually do this alot so I decided I should do this so I can get stuff of my mind. This work reflected everything I was going through. The pressure of the outside world on my mind and how it effects me on a emotional level. The only way to really capture this is by really feeling the emotion. This is the most important technique. If not for the authentic feeling the drawing would be artificial. While doing some of the drawings I learned shading techniques. I think they helped bring alot of the drawings together. Overall,  creating art based off of what I am going through was very interesting.I think it’s very creative and different. It’s also very complicated to do.

Quarter 3 project

I created a coaster out of clay because that is something I never tried before. I wanted to try something different. When I first started I thought of making a mug but it was a bit more difficult and we didn’t have much clay. So I wanted to go for something that would cause me to use less clay. I made it for someone so I painted it one of their favorite colors but I wanted it to be more shiny to before I painted it purple I painted it with a gel paint which make it shiny. I think my work communicates that it is exactly what I was trying to make. I think they if they look at it they can tell that it is a coaster. In the process of making this I think I achieved a better creative mind. My current work doesn’t relates to my previous work because this is the first time I actually made something like this before. I think my work relates to Sterling Ruby clay work because I feel like the structure of both of our work is the same. The only thing he did differently is the color options which is more dark colors.

To create this first I had to play with the clay to make it a little more soft and wet it a little. After that I flattened I the clay to get the bottom layer of my coaster formed. I had to make sure it wasn’t too thick or too thin. After that I had to think about how I wanted to put the little wall around my bottom surface to keep cups in place when they are on my coaster. I thought about rolling it until it got skinny so that I could just wrap it around the entire bottom layer. That didn’t work so I put flat piece around it and it formed very good. I didn’t really have any inspiration I just built it off of the top of my head. I wanted to create it in my work way. My work reflects the world I live in because it shows how people can do anything a long as they put the work in. My work can make an impact on the world because it can show young artist that they can try anything they never thought that they could do. The technique I used to create my work was to make sure is wasn’t too big or too small of certain containers so I made it a size that will fit almost any jug or cup. This is also the new technique that I learned.

Q3 project

I created this flower because i wanted to do something based on agriculture which is really different for me. My hope while creating this was to successfully make a flower on linoleum cut which is a difficult. My art shows that i worked really hard with the little details of my flower. I achieved successfully with making a design correctly with linoleum cut. This current work doesn't relate to my previous art because i used the tree color palette painting and this was only one color and white lines. I don’t think my work is as creative as contemporary art. I first drew the flower in my art book then i copied it onto the linoleum. The tools i used to cutting tools to cut the lines out and ink onto the drawing to be able to get pressed onto paper. This art piece It doesn’t really express me in a way that it could. I don’t think my work could influence anyone. A technique i learned was to make sure when you are cutting your linoleum you should make the lines not very deep and make sure you always use the iron to make is softer and easier to cut.

eye

I decided to do line texture and volume because i liked the concept of the project and i also was a little experienced already  and i also just love the way that black and grey art. What i was hoping to achieve with this project was to create a realistic eye with a smokey look and a realistic pupil. What i think i achieved through the creation of my work is showing detail in the pupils and the trees. What i used to create my art was a detailed pictured that i referred back and forth to to achieve the template of my picture. Then used volume and shading to make it look more realistic and to give it more detailed. At the end i used charcoal on the eyelashes to give it a smokey look.  What inspired me was a picture on google @ https://goo.gl/images/7MpOQq . A technique that had a big impact on this project was blending the dark shades to show volume.

Artist Statement

My art project is a yin yang koi fish. A Chinese theory for the yin is that it’s passive and negative force, and yang the active, positive force. According to this theory, wise people will de77tect these forces in the seasons, in their food, and so on, and will regulate their lives accordingly. I created this project because, I always been a an of the Yin yang symbol. The yin yang sign mean to is peace, love, and equality, I feel in today's world there isn't any of that. There's so much hate, violence in today's world. My vision for my project was to show peace and love, i want to spread the positivity throughout the world instead of the negativity. I want my viewers to feel what I feel when I see my painting, which is good vibes. I want my viewers to feel relaxed and open. My work now doesn't really compare to my previous I feel my work now mature me as a person then before. My previous work wasn't about showing positivity so much, it was more like a sense of humor. My inspiration came from a television show called Avatar The Last Airbender. One episode shows Koi fish lights up, and when the fishes are not together the world will experiences disaster. My idea was if Yin yang fish come together in the real word then world peace will happen or show equality. My work can impact the world by seeing race equality, for example black and whites come together and stop the racism going around the world. The technique I use for my project was a pencil, painting, and sharpie. Sharpie is great technique to use to outline the paint to define the painting a lot more. A new technique I learn was painting, at first when I was painting the color wasn't as dark,  Ms. Hertz told me to give it a second paint to darken the color so it won't fade out. My art compare with  the painting “Gu Wenda” is similar, both are Chinese and have message. Overall I'm proud of my project and i'm glad I have a great meaning behind the painting to show.

Q3 benchmark

I created this linoleum cut because I looked up the design and it looked cool. It is supposed to be a dragon head. My vision is to display the dragon like I wanted too. I didn’t really succeed. I lost my best print so I had to use the second best one. I don’t really think my work communicates anything to the viewer, except that I liked the way the dragon head looked. I think I achieved something nice though. I would do it again to do it better next time.

I think my previous work was better. However I did put forth more effort, sweat and blood (literally) to complete this project. I first asked people who did the project what they did to make their’s good. Then I looked up an image of a dragon head and drew it. I then traced that onto the linoleum with the blue paper. I then began to cut and mold my creation. When I was finished with that I printed on white and colored paper.  My work doesn’t reflect the world I live in. It’s doesn't impact the world either.  One technique that is good is keeping your off hand away from the carving tool.

So overall I liked the project and the process even though I stabbed myself twice. My finished product could have been better but I kind of like it. If I did it again I believe it would be better than what I have now.

For my Quarter 3 benchmark I decided to make a sculpture of a girl sitting with her arms crossed on her knees. I wanted to do this project because I wanted to challenge myself with creating this sculpture. Originally the girl is supposed to be in the cage but the cage wasn’t stable enough to use due to the wire I used for my cage. The message I want to show people with my art is that people are struggling to be who they are, and embracing their image especially now that Trump is president they feel like they have to change to be able to fit in. It’s hard for people to get through something that, so it always makes the feel many ways. I faced a lot of challenges to create it, for example the clay I used was really hard to mold into a body type form because it was drying up so I would have to keep wetting it to keep it moist. So when I first grabbed the clay I needed to come up with a way to start making the form of the girl. I tried making the body shapes but it didn’t work when I was making the arms and legs. I started with the back and the head because the head is round and when you're sitting down your back makes a rectangular shape. After I started to see the body shape forming which made me start extending the sides and mold the arms and legs. When I finished I was happy with the way it came out, but it looked to plain, I felt like I was missing something so then paint came to my mind. I used this primer first to help make the paint show more then I applied the colors and this was one achievement to make it look like an actual girl. In my perspective I don’t really think this connects to any of my previous work because of the theme sending out to my audience. I would compare this project to Amy Sherald American because the painting shows and drawing of a girl and she is proud to be an american and it makes you think about past history events that are important to America. First I started to get ideas based on something that really impacted my life, or something that really was important to get a point across. After I grabbed my sketchbook and started drawing the way I wanted to girl to look. Finally I grabbed a huge handful of clay and started molding the clay until i got the body shape I wanted, to be able to get it like that I kept making shapes with the clay putting it together and if it wasn’t right I would take it off and do it over again. A technique that’s really important that you need to know when using clay is that you need to be really like rough sometimes delicate with it if not it’s not going to turn out the way you want it to. Something new that I learned was the more wet the clay is the more easier to mess with and break it down. My work shows the way I feel sometimes so if I feel happy I would draw something really nice and if i'm upset i write about what's going on and then I just put it together. When using clay don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. It’s a really fun material to be using and you can make anything with it.

I created batman and used the colors red white and blue. I think I liked the contradiction; batman is known to be black but he is a variety of colors in my painting. I was hoping to show the people who view my work how you can play with colors and change the way things are “supposed” to be viewed. I think that’s exactly what my painting communicates to the viewer too. I think that I did achieve my overall goal to show the people who are viewing my work something unique that you wouldn’t see or really think about. I think it goes against what’s considered the “norm.” I think that this project did kind of relate to my first color wheel. The objective of both of these works of art were to show how you can use a few colors and get the result of several different colors that blend together differently and nicely. Looking at the website provided, I don’t believe that my work really relates to contemporary art.

It was a multiple step process in order to come up with the final result of my work. First I had to pick three colors. I chose red blue and white; I believed they would work together nicely and create a nice purple, the white white making it a more lavender color. The one only inspiration I really had for this drawing was a picture of batman I had saw. Then is when I decided that’s what I would draw. I think my art reflects in the world we live in by showing that it’s okay to be different and go against expectations to be different. People can use that idea in their life to inspire them to be themselves. There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong way to do this. You have to experiment with colors and decide what you think would work best for you as an individual. I think this project did indeed teach me how to paint better though.

I created this work because I felt that it would be interesting to create a picture using only 3 colors. It was also cool to see how 3 colors could mix into many more. My overall work is disappointing. I think it came out a sloppy mess and that the viewer of my painting won’t be able to see my vision. I was hoping to achieve a more uniformed look, but instead it looks thrown together.

I would hope that my viewer could see something in the painting that I can’t. The lighter parts of the portion are supposed to represent the good sides of the butterfly and the dark parts are supposed to represent the bad parts that the butterfly has to overcome in order to get to the better parts of his life. My current work doesn’t relate to my previous work. I think that each pieces of my art are different and doesn’t reflect off of each other.

My painting doesn’t fit in with contemporary art because it wasn’t meant to be put in that category of art. The process I worked was first I did a grid of colors and mixed blue with blue, red, and white. Then I mixed white with white, blue, and red. Then I mixed red with red, blue, and white. In some parts of my painting the colors mixed more bluntly than in other parts it clashed better into a new color. My art reflects the world I live in because in the center, the butterfly is bright, but all around it is not so bright, so it’s like the environment you live in doesn’t affect who you are.

My art would make an impact on the world because it would make people realize that they are not the people who are around them. One of the certain techniques that was essential to the piece was the dotting I did around the butterfly. A new technique I experienced with was mixing paint to form something different and use them together on a painting to make sense.

In conclusion, my painting didn’t really go as I had planned, but I hope the viewer sees something in the painting that I didn’t.

Flower

I created this artwork because I wanted to work with three different types of material. I was able to work with paint, mod podge, and crayons. My overall vision for my work was to create a portrait of a young girl with the background of the important news articles. I think my work communicates positive and good vibes to the viewer. I think I achieved a very unique look through this creation of this work. My current work relates to one of my previous artwork was when I once created did a mod podge with a balloon to create an mask. An example of an artist or work of art that fits with contemporary art is a portrait by Zak Prekop. He creates paintings with the illusion of light and depth. Starting off the project i had to cut multiple pieces of new articles which would be use to my background of the portrait. Also, then drawing an outline of drawing and figure out the spacing. I began with the background with the mod podge because that was the most time consuming part. Then, painted the outline of the girl, her clothing, and face. FInally, colored her hair in with black crayon. My inspiration for my image came from https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2434/4048317339_24c1be827d.jpg . This work reflects the world because it includes actual news articles and major stories. My work can influences my own life in a positive way when it comes to my upcoming projects in art class. A certain technique that was important was the mod podge, using not to much but not to little for the newspaper. A new technique that I learned or experimented more with in the process of making this work is the amount of paint used. Overall this project turned out very good. It didn’t take long at all to finish and complete all components. I would enjoy to do this project again.

Linoleum Cut Art

The reason why I’ve created this artwork is because when you approach Linoleum cut you will noticed that it only consist of one color black. Because of this I decided to do a fish yin-yang because I thought that it would be great for this project, and as it turned out it went as I imagined it would. My overall vision for my work was to be precise and cautious about my work because it was my first time doing linoleum cut so I wanted my work to be spectacular. But I was hoping to achieve a fish yin-yang through the creation of my work and that's what I got. I think that what my work communicates to the viewers approaching it is that they will look at the colors and shapes and their first thought would be “ooh this is a yin-yang how cool” and hopefully they cherish it. I think that I achieved many things in this project, some which were completing it on time, measuring how paint I needed for my piece of art to be readable, by readable I mean so that they can noticed that it's a yin-yang as soon as they walk up to it.

My current work relates to my previous work because some drawing had to be done so I could  then print my image and start cutting out the areas I did not need. My art work fits with Sun Xun because in one of his drawing there’s a man staring towards a wall and it looks as if some of the lines were carved out. Also it looks similar to what I did, he also used black paint only to create his piece of art. I used three tools to accompany my work. NIJI woodcarving knives was what I used to finish my work, the v-knife I used to carve out the small inspections, the regular knife was to cut next to the lines that were going to be black, and the half oval knife which I used to carve out the rest of which was going to be white. . Something that inspired me to do this yin-yang was watching a movie when I was a child called “kung-fu panda.” I guess you can say that my work reflects my life because I like to do things nicely and with perfection.

This art piece does not reflect my area where I live. Also my experiences it does reflect it a bit because I like playing with sharp things and caring things and woods. My work can influence or make an impact on the world because others might look at it and inspire others to do it. Certain techniques I used was not heating it up because it took to much of my time to soften it so I decided to just carve without heating it up because it was faster. The technique I learned was to not heat it up because it took much more time to complete my work.

In conclusion I think I did well and I hope that whoever views my linoleum cut painting enjoys viewing it. Also I hope that they can tell that my goal was to do a fish yin-yang. That was my overall goal.

Q3 artist statement

For my quarter 3 project I decided to chose the limited palette because I wanted to try something different. For my project I  have created a pikachu because i wanted to draw something different beside a flower. My overall vision of my work is it turned out better than I expect it. I expect my audience to react in a positive way and I think that they will react in a positive way. What I think I’ve achieved through the creation of this art is mixing colors to get the color that I wanted for my drawing. My current work relates to my previous work because I have done it in art. One example of a piece of contemporary art that compares to my art is Spencer Finch because of his use of shapes and color mixture to make his drawing. The first thing I did when making this artwork is I first drew pikachu, then traced pikachu onto a canvas board. After that I traced pikachu with a sharpie, then I started to add color to the drawing. I had to pick three main colors then try and create other colors by combining the colors with each other. The three colors I chose were black, yellow and red. For my palette I had black mixed with yellow, black mixed with red and etc. This art piece really doesn’t express me. I don’t think my work could influence anyone. A new technique that I learned while making this art was making a color guide to create multiple different colors.

My Q3 Art Project: Value, Line, and Texture

I created this project because when I looked at the other people before me who completed this project they’re outcome turned out very nicely. My vision from the work was a little bit different than how I wanted it to be but I think it’s okay. I think my work communicates to the viewer a happy go lucky kitten that’s playing with a ball. I don’t think my current work relates to my previous work other than the fact that I use line, value, and texture in all of my art pieces. I don’t have the link to my inspiration but I know I just wanted to draw a cute animal. My work reflects the world I live in because I like to be around nice, happy things and the cat in my picture is happy. Make sure that when you try to shade you do the darkest where the sun doesn’t hit and lightest to no shade where it does. I didn’t learn a new technique when doing this project.

Just Joking

Just Joking

So for Quarter 3 I decided to do the mixed media project. I chose this project because I thought it would be awesome/look so cool if my drawing came to life with different mediums that’s not just paint. My vision was to have the Joker hanging upside down like that scene in “The Dark Knight”, but then I wanted Harley Quinn in it, But I didn’t have space for her… So she and batman became mini figurines, like their “Pop vinyls”. Before I started drawing I was gonna make Joker like a teenager, That’s why he’s dressed the way he is instead of the purple suit. The different mediums I used were: Paint, Markers, Colored Pencils, Charcoal, Newspaper letters, Magazine letters, and a Lead Pencil. Newspaper and Magazine letters were used for the “Ha Ha’s”, The colored pencils for their skin, parts of their clothes and the moon. Markers for parts of clothing, the moon, Charcoal for a like evil aura, and the paint for the background and stars. I feel as though the only way you can do good in art is to draw something you love or something that makes you happy, that's why this work compares to my previous ones. I always draw according to what makes me happy. When I started I had a totally different idea, didn’t like it so I trashed it. My inspiration for this was Heath Ledger’s performance in “The Dark Knight”. I loved his performance. Me and Joker have a lot in common, Laughing at stuff that aren’t really funny lol. To sum this up, This project was awesome, I feel like I could’ve added a bit more, but I just had little time with the whole starting over thing. I’m still marveled by this though, didn’t think I’d pull it off. Anyways, I hope you enjoy Just Joking. (Idk about the title...)
