Video Taping Our Class
Dear Students,
I am planning to video tape 3 of our classes within the next week. If you would like to be a part of this project, please get your parent/guardian to sign the Waiver and Release form.
Thank you,
Ms. Allen

- How do the earth systems affect each other? -The earth systems can affect each other in many ways. They affect each other by working together to influence the climate, trigger geological processes, and affect life all over the Earth. Since earth systems are connected what may affect one system can affect another.
- How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? -Understanding of environmental science can aid in handling natural disasters by making us more informed and prepared. Knowing about environmental science can later lead us to me informed on what steps we may need to take and how to later prevent a natural disaster.
- What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? -To create a sustainable future it takes lots of effort not just from one but all. Some steps we can take is saving our natural resources, we use too much water and it would be fantastic if we cut down. We can start investing in renewable energies and using less energy in our homes. Some other steps we can take is stop using plastic, recycle more, and eating more plant based meals.
Makema Vanterpool's Final Submission
Earth systems affect each other because what affects one can affect another. Energy and material flows, commonly referred to as routes or fluxes, connect the major parts of the earth system. The flow of energy and the biogeochemical cycles’ cycling of essential minerals are the two most significant flows in the earth system. An understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters because we understand how the world and its systems function and why these things occur, environmental science can help in handling natural disasters. We can determine what to do in these situations based on it. Our knowledge of natural Earth processes enables us to comprehend the causes of earthquakes and the effects of releasing too many greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The efforts that we can make to create a sustainable future involves making sure that your major purchases offer significant environmental advantages. Move beyond plastic. Avoid buying things that threaten wildlife. Read labels carefully and conserve water. My reaction to my findings and overall project are very high-minded and satisfactory. My overall project focuses on Volcanoes and the way they develop when tectonic plates collide. Some of the rocks in these plates start to melt as water seeps into them and is pressed out, forming magma. Volcanoes erupt as the magma builds up in magma chambers and eventually pushes its way to the surface. A region known as the “Ring of Fire” is where volcanic eruptions are most likely to happen, while “hot spots” are where the majority of other eruptions take place. Gases and dust particles released by volcanoes have an impact on earth systems. Climate change is influenced by the gases and dust that eruptions discharge into the atmosphere. Additional effects include the deterioration of water quality, a decrease in the number of rainy days, crop losses, and vegetation destruction. Massive, albeit infrequent, volcanic eruptions will cause plumes of gas and ash to ascend higher as the atmosphere warms as a result of global warming.
Chris S, Tsunami
- If one Earth system is affected, then it will have an effect on the others. If there is a drastic change in the quality or quantity of any of the Earth’s systems, it will drastically affect the others.
- Having an understanding of environmental science would help you better prepare for a natural disaster because you would be informed about why that natural disaster happens and the effects of it. This can help you better decide how to help people prepare for it.
- We can make sure that learning about the causes and effects of natural disasters is something that most people should be informed of, especially when there is a high probability of a specific natural disaster happening in certain communities. People can make sure that they are as prepared as possible and aware of what precautions to take when experiencing natural disasters.
Mason- Tsunamis
- How do the earth’s systems affect each other? The earth’s systems all work and affect each other like a cycle. Tsunamis are very powerful waves that are brought on by a significant and abrupt movement of the ocean, typically the result of an earthquake at or near the ocean’s surface. Waves produced by this power travel in all directions away from their source, occasionally spanning entire ocean basins. So Tsunamis are a part of the hydrosphere since it is a mass of water and salt water being brought up and onto land because of the waves caused by earthquakes which are part of the geosphere that affect the soil which is also part of the geosphere. So in short all the systems are going to be connected in some way may it be in a positive or negative way.
- How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding environmental science can help in the aid of natural disasters since you would understand the root causes as well as the signs and signals of what could occur next. When understanding environmental science you also get a newfound perspective on the earth and its inner makings. While you can not prevent natural disasters you can be prepared and well-educated when the situation calls for it so in the future all you have to worry about is nature running its course.
- What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? As a society, we can make efforts to create a sustainable future by not going against nature and forcing things to proceed when it’s not in their nature to go that way. We can start by finding fuel-efficient energy sources to cut down on air pollution, we can stop overconsuming materials and livestock, and lastly, we should be able to find a better way to dispose of trash so it doesn’t end up polluting our oceans and streets.
Reaction: Honestly I was very surprised at how well our visual model came together. it really visualized what happens before and after a tsunami.
Angel, Tornadoes
Atmosphere: The cool air along with heavy rain then forms spinning air currents inside the cloud which could drop down from the clouds forming a tornado.
Geosphere: These strong winds can pick up rocks affecting the geosphere
Biosphere: Strong winds can pick up rocks and can injure the biosphere such as humans, animals, and plants.
Hydrosphere: Tornadoes, which are violently rotating columns of air extending from the bottom of a severe thunderstorm, have very little impact on the hydrosphere. Tornadoes are small in both their areal coverage and in their duration, usually lasting about 10 minutes on average.
Understanding environmental science to aid in handling natural disasters can lead to helping citizens to safety and how to ignore or know when a natural disaster is coming. Allowing these people to ignore the danger. In order to create a sustainable future, we need to think of it as our home and treat the planet as our home to reduce these natural disasters that happen and keep the world right.
Harmony Smith: Mudslides
- Earth systems affect each other because they are able to contribute and build off of one another by associating energy and different materials
- It will allow people to know why these disasters happen, help get a better understanding of the earth’s systems, and how exactly they work.
- To make a more sustainable future we could make the effort to recycle more, use less plastic, limit food waste, and use less energy.
aaliyah s. - landslides/mudslides
- how the earth systems affect each other for mudslides/landslides: mudslides(geosphere) can be fatal to humans and harm trees and other plants(biosphere). since there would be fewer humans, there wouldn’t be many trees being replanted which would lead to more carbon dioxide in the air(atmosphere). the soil(geosphere) from the mudslide would be eroded which would cause the sediment level in the water to increase(hydrosphere).
- an understanding of environmental science can aid in handling natural disasters because it can help you know how the earth systems affect different natural disasters to prevent and prepare for if one. for example, planting trees can help to prevent mudslides/landslides because the roots from the trees will soak up additional water that seeps into the ground from the rain, which will make the chance of mudslides less likely.
- efforts we can make to help create a sustainable future are using fewer fossil fuels which would cause fewer greenhouse gases to be put in the atmosphere, planting more trees, teaching people how to recycle properly and actually doing it, etc.
i was shocked about most of the info i found out about mudslides/landslides, but overall i found the project to be pretty fun and easy to do. it was easy to work with my group. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1rRhArROZa_WvVfmXJ-K4YXwRjSIX4PvFAt0HdkA3FHA/edit#slide=id.g16257e8ee1a_1_0
