Sustainable Business and Resource Management

Earth systems affect each other because they all rely on each other in one way or another. In our case, the biosphere and the geosphere affect our business and it being sustainable because if our restaurant treats the geosphere and biosphere like trash it will result in the downfall of the communities that surround the restaurant. So for the restaurant to last in the community, it needs to treat the surrounding area with respect. Our business doesn't really deal with natrual disasters but we can severly hurt the environment by using up tons of energy and resources. So to make our restaurant sustainable we will recycle, limiting pollution, and manage our resources. If more and more restaurants follow our plan things like plastic straws(which severely hurts the environment) will become a thing in the past. By doing this project it opened my eyes and showed how restaurants can hurt the environment if they are not careful with their management of resources and uses of plastic.

Sustainability Resturant

Sustainability is being able to maintain a stable life. As a group, we choose to look at the effects restaurants have on our environment. This industry affects all of us because we all go to restaurants and how they affect the environment and their surrounding community is important because their production of goods can hurt the environment. Some natural resource that can be used in our sustainability is to use natural ingredients to make their cuisine. Also, depending on where they put their restaurant they will need land to build, electricity, and water so they can cook, clean, and for plumbing. Some of the ways in which ecological systems depend on energy inputs because individual organisms rely on a continuous input of energy in order to survive, grow, and reproduce. Scientists keep track of inputs, outputs, and changes to complex systems by keeping data of every system.Natural systems change over time and space due to the negative contributions humans are doing to our earth.

Super Foods: Enviornmental Science Benchmark

1. How do Earth systems affect each other?

- Earth systems affect each other in alot of different ways. They generally affect each other by transferring energy between each other. For example, a human (a member of the Biosphere) takes in oxygen from the Atmosphere and uses it.

2. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?

-We can make a lot of changes to help create a sustainable future. I think that the main thing that we can do is try our best minimize waste creation.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other because they are constantly interacting with one another. When we mine for materials in the geosphere this  interacts with the atmosphere and hydrosphere by putting different elements into the air and run off to the water.
 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding environmental science can help in handling natural disasters because it protects people during natural disaster, also it makes it easier to predict the disaster, and know how they will impact different areas of the world.
3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? We can create a sustainable future by reducing the number of resources used, recycling properly, using reusable energy/energy saving products.
Reaction: This project helped me get a better understanding of the different elements that we extract form the world and how we can find ways in witch they are more sustainable environment where the Earth can be around for longer.

Sustainable Technology

Earth systems affect each other because they all rely on each other to be successful. For instance, plants (biosphere) gets water (hydrosphere) and nutrients from the soil (geosphere) and then releases water vapor into the atmosphere. Without one system, the others fail. Getting an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters is very important because it could help us learn how to deal with the natural disasters when they happen which can save millions of lives. I think some efforts we can do to create a sustainable future is trying to make the world a better place to live in terms of making sure it's healthy. Doing things like recycling more, walking/riding bikes, and turning off electronics when they're not being used could go a long way in terms of making a sustainable future.

Ethnobotany

The way that indigenous plants and the culture be preserved as a whole is by having more classes teach these kind of things. This information can be shared amongst students at the grade level of 5th grade and could teach it again in sophomore year of high school. There could be special schools days where they acknowledge indigenous culture and spend a day or however long they want to spend celebrating and cultivating that culture. Plant anatomy affects plant physiology because plants need to be structurally strong so that it can do certain features; a plant that thrives in rainy conditions and is built for humid areas such as the rainforest isn't going to work the same if it was suddenly put in a environment like a desert, it wouldn’t survive. Humans interactions affects a plants ability to adapt to changing climates if it’s a plant that is always in a constant environment. If a plant is always being nurtured by having constant light and being given water at certain times throughout the day the plant will never have to experience a drought of water or sometimes not seeing the sun. Since the plant is in a constant environment it will always know only that constant.

A sustainable fashion foundation

For my quarter 1 environmental science benchmark, my partners and I created a fictional fashion factory that creates clothing with little to no man made resources and more with natural resources. An industry affects all of earths system because in order for industry's to function, they take a piece from each one. For example, the fashion industry uses a lot of oils to create to clothing affecting the biosphere. With much effort from humans, we can save energy, water and our earth by thinking twice about the resources we use and think twice about the things we use everyday and where they are really coming from.

Super Foods

How do the earth systems affect each other?
In business like ours they affect the atmosphere by truck delivers and those deliveries produce fossil fuels which pollute the air. Then over consumption and using all the productive resources will affect the biosphere.

What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?
We can stop using factory farms and cut down on burning fossil fuels and energy consumption because it is a mess. First, of all we use to much of each for storing foods which we end up throwing out because of over consumption and having to much products.

The earth systems are affected on the daily and we know we can reduce these negative affects. An industry affects the earth because it uses up all our renewable energy, pollutes our air, and pushes out oil into our waters. We will be using solar energy to get direct sunlight and act as fuel. We can reuse our clothes to stop wasting and can save money.

Ethnobtany and Culture

Through this project I had the chance to learn more about agriculture. I learned about the different tribes that had a big influence on agriculture. They helped with the society especially when it comes to trading. Different tribes used to trade food, animals, and raw materials. We depend on the growth of these crops for food, health, and even clothes. Before we bought everything we need from a grocery store, Native tribes would plant and cultivate crops to survive. They used agriculture to their advantage and made the most out of everything.

One of the tribes that I learned the most from was the:

The Sioux tribe, from South Dakota-

They lived in teepees, wore clothing made from animal skin such as buffalo, the clothing usually consisted of Fur,  leather, and suede. They traded buffalo products for crops such as corn. They got this from tribes of plains (tribes found within Canada, and The U.S). Females were good at bead embroidery, while men usually performed raids  on other tribes. They believed in 4 powers that controlled the universe.

Animals such as Buffalo and Bear were a big deal to them usually used in rituals, and celebrations. Although they tended to crops and used them as a source of income. Their main source of income was the animals they killed and herded. The weapons and clothing made from the fur and skin of these animals were highly praised and sold well.
