About My Capstone
Leaving Science Leadership Academy(SLA) to start a new beginning, I felt like it was only right to give the students and teachers of SLA something different to think and learn about. I chose to raise awareness for Bipolar Disorder. I chose to do this project because multiple people in my family suffer from a mental illness and the most common one is bipolar disorder. I would like for people to know that this is a real problem in the world that is not talked about. So, I put together a presentation to educate my fellow peers and teachers about bipolar disorder that reflects on the school's five core values. Bipolar Disorder is when a person's chemicals in the brain are not regulated and can result in a depressed or manic state. The process of making my final product which is a video and power point which was a good experience. With the final video to my project my partner and I were able to interview two people who have bipolar disorder and get to know what they go through and some things that they deal with. The interview was quite easy, the making and editing was challenging but in the end, it worked out. In this project, I was able to learn more about bipolar disorder and learn how it affects people. This project was extremely helpful to me and I am hoping that it will be useful to someone else in need of information.

What’s a stereotype? A stereotype is clearly defined as “a perceived notion about someone, especially about a group of people”. Teenage life isn’t easy. Being gay isn’t easier. Many gay people growing up and as an adult can face many acts of discrimination and stereotypical interactions with others. Throughout this project will be many voices on stereotypes and experiences with being stereotyped and discriminated within the system. Hopefully, this project will help people everywhere understand more about what stereotyping is and how it is used everywhere. Samantha and I have created a movie, nonetheless, created by 2 female lesbians in an interracial relationship, focusing on stereotypes, what the view of stereotypes are considered at SLA@Beeber, and the experiences Samantha had in the work-field. We share our stories to educate the world on stereotyping and just because we only have 2 stories to broadcast, does not mean that hundreds of people all over the world aren’t. It’s an epidemic that needs to be controlled and stopped. Imagine if it were you getting stereotyped out of a job, or school when you needed it the most. Our goal in creating this Capstone was to educate the minds of children, adults, mothers and fathers, teachers, etc all over this country, and hopefully, the world, to become more open-minded and not to just judge people on what they look like from the first glance. If we all came together and got to know one another before stereotyping, the world could actually become a better place. Not all black people steal. Not all white people hate black people. Not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all Greeks eat baklava. Not all Asians get straight A’s. Stop the stereotyping.

For my project as my final capstone, I have decided to use what I love and share it with my peers. I have decided to teach volleyball to my peers. Since I am very familiar with the sport and what it is you need to do to play it, I thought this would be perfect to teach to people who might not know how to play. Although only a few people were interested they still learned a lot. This process wasn’t very hard being as though I knew what is was I wanted to teach. Before I decided on coaching a volleyball class. I picked a completely different project but I wasn’t very contempt with it so at the last minute I changed it. I have played volleyball since sixth grade. I played/started all four years in high school. I was appointed captain in twelfth grade. Since I was captain I have learned that I am a strong leader so it wasn’t going to be hard to teach an inexperienced group of people the beautiful game of volleyball. After the practice, I have asked my classmates if they have a better understanding of how to play and they all said yes. This was my main goal. I thought it was going to be tricky for them to learn, but they actually picked it up pretty fast. Being as though I only had a day to teach them they performed well and to the best of their ability. The main thing I have learned through this short journey is anybody can learn a skill if the teacher teaches it thoroughly and correctly. Also, I learned that you must be patient and not yell if they do not get it because it does take time.

Abstract Paragraph:
The goal of my capstone originally was to create an animation, but due to not really having that much free time I had to settle for turning the scene into a still instead. For this image I took a lot more time looking at inspirational image to really get a good look at what I wanted to do. I started looking at references for churches mostly to find a setup that I would actually like. I ended up settling down with something involving God Rays flooding the room to create heavy contrast. After the basic composition was blocked out I started to spend a lot more time on the characters that I would have in the scene. To create the character standing in the center I used a common technique where you sculpt the model using dynamic topology. Afterwards I went ahead retopologized the model so she could actually be used for texturing/shading/posing. After I was satisfied with the main character I went back to the scene and detailed that to an extent that made me happy. Something different I did for this scene though was composite the scene the nuke rather than in Blender. So I had to learn my way around Nuke to do proper color grading and fx for the image. After the composite was done in nuke I made slight changes in Krita for the final image.
Annotated Bibliography
Creating an annotated bibliography is a little weird for this but all of these were used for the same reason. All these sources provided references/textures/software that I was using to create this piece. Pixabay and textures.com were used for textures I used in the image. 3d artist, pixabay, blendernation, and blender artists were used for references. Lastly Nuke, and Blender.org, as well as krita were the sites i got the software from.
