My senior capstone was to redesign the senior cafe. The goal was to enable us as seniors to create something that will be able to stay after our present SLA seniors. We wanted to make the senior cafe a place where seniors would actually like to eat their lunch. Over the course of this project we learned about leadership and taking control and leading by example. We wanted to do this for many reasons. Questions were brought up such as,  How would the space be useful after we leave?  Why don’t many students use the cafe now? ,What kind of room do we want it to be?,. Will it keep more people out of the hallways? ,What would it be used for? We also learned about management and budgeting. We completely renewed it from the paint colors which were chosen by a survey done by students. We brought furniture to go in the room to make it more comfortable and inviting. We purchased games that we thought students would like to play on their free time. We fundraised twice a week to be able to afford all of this stuff. In the beginning we started off with selling ice cream one day and pizza another but the pizza wasn’t making enough money so we stopped that. Towards the end we wanted to add something new to the ice cream. We chose to sell waffles and ice cream, and it was a big success. We also chose to leave something to remember the first graduating class by putting their hand-prints on one the walls in the cafe.

For my senior capstone, Jordan Williams and I decided to pair up and collaborate on something we both have a passion for; sports. Since our school has incorporated so many different sports teams over the past four years, we feel sa though sports should be something we honor more broadly this year. We wanted to incorporate all of the student athletes and appreciate them more for our final year, here at SLA. We figured that to show appreciation to our athletes and coaches, we should create a sports ceremony in honor of them. The process for our sports ceremony has came a very long way. In the beginning, in September, we fully planned on creating a full out banquet for the athletes. We first began by figuring out any kind of fundraising we could do, but in the end we got none of that done. We didn’t fundraise at all. In order for our banquet to be up to par, we would’ve needed to pay for tables, chairs, catering, refreshments, awards and invitations. By the time March came around, we obviously knew from there on out a banquet wasn’t going to be the way to go if we wanted to get our capstone done on time. Instead of rushing around to do a horrible job, we decided to make a ceremony. My partner and I have been on a very up and down journey to get our capstone figured out and finalized. Our final product is going to be SLA@Beeber’s first sports ceremony. Our ceremony will be held on June 2nd at 4 o’clock in the Beeber auditorium. And, Jordan and I will be hosting this event. I learned everything from time management, organization, patience, etc. My capstone story is really simple but we came along way from where we begun. I feel like this process has made me mature because we did a lot on our own and didn’t have much guidance throughout. We wanted to take matters into our own hands and I feel like that is the best decision we made through everything.

National, Hazeltine. "Making Your High School Sports Banquet Memorable." Hazeltine National Golf Club. N.p., 8 July 2013 . Web. 04 Apr. 2017.

This article was written by Hazeltine National, a professional event decorator. This article was mostly about how to decorate your party area. An event such as this requires a lot of thought and coordination. National went through step by step on what to do and how to do it. Some steps she included was making it memorable with props, color coordination with school colors, honoring students accomplishments, table and seating arrangements, etc. This is super helpful to us because it gives us a basis on how to start our set up. It allows us to picture the decor we are most looking for and where to start that from.

Brennan , Cheri . "Creating and Designing a Sports Banquet Theme." Ezinearticles.com . N.p., 30 Aug. 2009 . Web. 4 Apr. 2017 .

This article was written by Cheri Brennan and it goes into great detail on what we need to create for part of the decor at our banquet. Sports banquets are suppose to be formal, since it is an honorable event. Being said that, formality is what we are going to aim for. She explains that lighting, backgrounds (for pictures), a podium, eating materials (napkins, plates, silverware), etc, are all important factors in creating a “formal” look. Knowing how to create a formal look is going to help us a lot in the long run because that is what we really want to come out of this. We want to create something so perfect that it will be memorable. Coming in with a very coordinated event will be something no one will forget.

Writer, Leaf Group. "Sports Banquet Invitation Wording Ideas." Entertainment Guide | Local.com. Local.com, 26 June 2011. Web. 04 Apr. 2017.

Invitations are one of the most important things to include when creating any kind of event. Its most important when creating a formal event like a sports banquet. Since our event is honoring and congratulating athletes, that needs to be really broad on our invitations. They have to be particular and noticeable. The article explains what needs to be on the invitations since our event is specific. It tells us to include; location, attire, who is being honored and what the official agenda is. This really benefits us because creating the invitation is the number one thing to start with, after finding all of the general information about our event. The invitation attracts our invitees.

Berkowitz , Kenny . "Better Banquets." Better Banquets. N.p., 29 Jan. 2015 . Web. 04 Apr. 2017.

This article is about other schools and what they do to keep their banquets interesting. Sometimes, events such as this one can be really drawn out and people usually leave when it isn’t even over yet. For us, that is not our goal at all. We want to make it as involved and fun as possible. This article gave us different ideas to keep it interesting. It explains that involving as many students as possible is the best idea because everyone is being honored (which parents want, and more people will come). It also gave us the idea of selecting a few people, mostly seniors, to give a speech about their time at SLA and how their sport is important to them. We also want to include as many lower classmen as possible.

"Team Awards Dinner Ideas To Celebrate The End Of the Season." To Celebrate The End Of the Season. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Apr. 2017.

This article doesn’t have a main author, but it talks a lot about the food part of any sports banquet, or any party at all. In the article, it is suggested that before we start doing any catering planning, to have a all around survey on what people like. By having people take a survey, a more diverse list can be created, offering many. They give us ideas on what kind of food set up we can use, and we find it most helpful using a buffet set up. A buffet will allow our guests to have a little bit of a choice. Although this article mainly focuses on food options, it benefits us because now we have an easier way of figuring out an easy food plan.

Blankenburg, Eric. "Ideas for an Athletic Banquet." EHow. Leaf Group, 24 Jan. 2010. Web. 04 Apr. 2017.

This article goes over a couple of important things; decorations, foods, awards, activities, gifts, etc. We find this article most helpful when the author focuses in on awards. As a pair, we haven’t quite figured out what kind of articles we are offering yet. But, this article explains that the most important one to hand out to each sport team is “MVP.” This can open up a variety of awards that we could use such as “most improved” “most team spirit” “all around athletic” and many more. The article tells us that it is important to recognize and all and not leave anybody out, especially if they are there. As we have said before, we want this to be as memorable as possible considering these are the first ever athletes at SLA and this is the first capstone.

Ethan Berlenbach Game Design Capstone

Game Design Mini-Course

For my capstone project I decided to lead a Mini-Course at our school teaching 9th graders about game design. The reason I wanted to do this project is because I aspire to become a teacher. The class was held every Wednesday not only this year but also last year when I was leading the class as part of the ILP program. Every week I worked with my partner Austin,  who was helping me run the class as part of his capstone. The goal of the class was to get th 8-16 freshmen depending on which session it was, to learn the basics of game design and be able to transform those skills into a miniature game   We wrote and revised lesson plans in order to teach the class and had to make adjustments as time went on. We had to do often enough because there were many challenges with supplies and technological issues we faced. Overall, I learned a lot about what it means to be a teacher and the challenges teachers face.

What’s a stereotype? A stereotype is clearly defined as “a perceived notion about someone, especially about a group of people”. Teenage life isn’t easy. Being gay isn’t easier. Many gay people growing up and as an adult can face many acts of discrimination and stereotypical interactions with others. Throughout this project will be many voices on stereotypes and experiences with being stereotyped and discriminated within the system. Hopefully, this project will help people everywhere understand more about what stereotyping is and how it is used everywhere. Samantha and I have created a movie, nonetheless, created by 2 female lesbians in an interracial relationship, focusing on stereotypes, what the view of stereotypes are considered at SLA@Beeber, and the experiences Samantha had in the work-field. We share our stories to educate the world on stereotyping and just because we only have 2 stories to broadcast, does not mean that hundreds of people all over the world aren’t. It’s an epidemic that needs to be controlled and stopped. Imagine if it were you getting stereotyped out of a job, or school when you needed it the most.

Our goal in creating this Capstone was to educate the minds of children, adults, mothers and fathers, teachers, etc all over this country, and hopefully, the world, to become more open-minded and not to just judge people on what they look like from the first glance. If we all came together and got to know one another before stereotyping, the world could actually become a better place. Not all black people steal. Not all white people hate black people. Not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all Greeks eat baklava. Not all Asians get straight A’s. Stop the stereotyping.

For my capstone, I assisted in designing sensors for Tiny WPA and Public Workshop, the organizations I have been working with for the past three years. The sensors would gather use data on the finished projects from Tiny WPA and Public Workshop. The data we get from the sensors would show us how people use the things we build so that we can improve the design later, and we can also use the data to show that the projects are actually being used and that the money the funders have given us isn't being wasted. During the project I learned the basic concepts of coding and electronics, the principals of data gathering and analysis, and sensor design and manufacturing techniques. I would meet with either Mr. Pilla or another guy Gabe who are both engineers and they would act as teachers, showing us how to do the things we needed to do and pushing us in the right direction to help move the project along. The product of this project is a basic sensor kit which will allow us to gather data on pretty much any project we build in the future, with an instruction book so that other people can replicate the sensors and the installation in the future.

For my capstone I decided to create a body of music consisting of usually hip-hop/rap beats that I would make over the course of the senior year. This body of music is a sort of mixtape that I would share with the world and show what I can do outside of school. I chose to do this mixtape because it shows what my hobby outside of school is. It also shows the progress that I made since my 9th grade mini course. I made the beats on FL studio. Over the course of about 7 months, I made somewhere between 20 and 30 beats. I chose 10 of them and put them on SoundCloud. I also sent them to my brother so he could send it to some of his friends to get some feedback. That is all.

Greg Alston/Samir Smith SLA Guy Code

SLA guy code, a capstone tradition started by Greg and I during our senior year here at SLA Beeber. This is the first episode of this tradition we hope to start. Basically, using MTV’s guy code series as a reference, we created our own guy code pertaining to SLA Beeber and the things that go on in our school and amongst our graduating class. The class of 2017, the upcoming and very first graduating class of SLA Beeber, most of us have been here since the start of the school itself and others came to fill in as time went on. Most of the people that Greg and I chose to interview and include in our capstone were seniors who have been here since day one. We referenced a few topics that we came to agree that all students had something to say about and topics that were completely relevant and ongoing in our school. Although SLA isn't your average school, there are just some things that we have in common with other schools. In this episode you will get to hear students speak their minds and address the given topics, which were picked so that they sparked interest and made the students want to speak on them. This capstone has no filter, being as though we told everyone to speak their mind and be genuine, but there is no name dropping allowed. We had to make sure that no one's reputation was desecrated. Viewers Discretion Advised.

Screen Shot 2017-05-18 at 3.31.12 PM
Our names are Hector Tapia and Ekkleysia Lumintang. We are seniors at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber High School. For our last year in high school we are assigned a project called a capstone. A project that can be about anything, and possibly influence the world in some way. We have realized that there has been many signs of poverty and people without homes all around Philadelphia. This made us ask a a question "what can we do as student with a voice, to help give and contribute to this community." So we decided to take advantage of this project and use it to help show awareness of the the people struggling everyday, living on the streets hungry, and in need of help.

  1. Arroberts922. "Homelessness in Philadelphia." YouTube. YouTube, 19 Jan. 2011. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0_PcHS5_gs>.

  • This source provides information about the perspective of different residents of philadelphia regarding the homelessness that is going on in their city. We selected this source because it provides some ideas on how the style of the documentary can be made. It also helps me with trying to figure out what types of questions we should be researching, and even figure out where the direction of my project will lead to. One limitation to this source is the fact that it does not reflect the vision we have for this project, and seems like any other typical documentary when you just interview random people. It is not necessarily as successful at catching attention as we would like for our documentary to be.

  1. "Facts on Homelessness." Project HOME. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <https://projecthome.org/about/facts-homelessness>.

  • This source provides information about the statistics of the amount of homelessness in Philadelphia. This is very helpful due to the fact that I am trying to spread awareness of the amount of homelessness in Philadelphia, and how everyone has different reasons for why they are in the position they are in. It isn’t just single homeless people, but in some cases there are families that are stuck having to live in their car, or sleeping on the train, or even at the train station. This website covers a lot of information including  the circumstances that the majority of the homeless are in. One limitation of this source is that it is only estimates of the amount of homeless. So the number could have risen, or fallen during the time this information has been released.

  1. Blt189. "Down and out (Homeless in Philly)." YouTube. YouTube, 18 Aug. 2011. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op2Bq6cNU5g>.

  • This source provides a bit of information during the introduction in regards to facts on homelessness in Philadelphia. Except this video was made in 2011, and I am not sure if this is an accurate source. The main thing that I am able to get out of this source is being able to get a look on the director’s idea, and how he came across on trying to make this type of documentary. There are some things I liked about what he did, and there are some things I did not like. When making the documentary I will be sure to copy the things that I do, and avoid making the same mistakes he committed when editing/shooting the video.

4. Lattanzio, Morgan Zalot Vince. "Fighting for a Place to Call Home: The Silent Epidemic of Youth Homelessness." NBC 10 Philadelphia. NBC 10 Philadelphia, 07 Feb. 2017. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Fighting-for-a-Home-The-Silent-Epidemic-of-Youth-Homelessness-332250942.html>.

  • This source provides information specifically on the youth that struggle with being homeless in the streets of Philadelphia. The article not only provides statistics on what the homeless youth would typically do if they had no where to stay, but 5 different interviews on the lives of 5 homeless young people. I found this source useful because it is definitely the source that has come closest to being able to accomplish what I have in my mind/my vision for the documentary.

5.   | , Jared Brey. "Philly to Focus Outreach to Homeless on Center City "Hotspots"." Philadelphia Magazine. N.p., 18 May 2016. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <http://www.phillymag.com/citified/2016/05/16/philadelphia-homeless-center-city/>.

  • This source provides information about what the city of Philadelphia has tried to do in regards to the amount of homelessness. It brings up how the Jim Kenney administration had a plan to help get the homeless off the streets. Except the thing that is wrong with this article is that it was written on May 16, 2016. In about 3 months it would be a year since the article was made. Reading this article it made me feel like instead of fixing the homeless problem it has just been swept under the carpet. Instead of finding homes, and shelters, the homeless are just straight up being pushed out of our city.

6. "Homeless Advocacy Project - Free legal help for homeless individuals and families." Homeless Advocacy Project - Free legal help for homeless individuals and families. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <http://www.homelessadvocacyproject.org/>.

  • This source provides information about an organization that helps out the homeless. I don’t want to just present the problem in the documentary, but be able to provide somewhat of a solution. If I am able to get at least one person’s sympathy, and get at least one person wondering on how they could help the cause, I have achieved my goal. It is for that one person that I would include this source. The only problem though is that this source does not focus in Philly, because it is a pretty big organization that covers more than just Philadelphia.

7."7 things you should know about homelessness in Philly." Generocity Philly. N.p., 13 June 2016. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <http://generocity.org/philly/2016/05/24/homelessness-facts-poverty-youth-government/>.

  • This source provides information about 7 facts on the homelessness in Philadelphia. It mentions topics that I didn’t even think to look at. Such as how in the LGBTQ community there is a major problem in regards to the youth that are left homeless. This is definitely a topic I would like to touch upon because of how popular the Gay rights movement has been. So to intertwine the 2 topics would be a nice way to look at homelessness from a whole new perspective.

8. "HomelessShelterDirectory." Philadelphia Homeless Shelters and Services - philadelphia PA Homeless Shelters - philadelphia Pennsylvania Homeless Shelters. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <http://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-bin/id/city.cgi?city=philadelphia&state=PA>.

  • This source provides information on the amount of shelters that there are in Philadelphia, as well as their location. The reason I would like to search for information like this is because I don’t want to just interview the homeless, but be able to provide at least a little help by providing them with information on what they can do to help themselves. Hopefully this would influence others to do the same, and simply help out the homeless by providing simple information.

9. https://www.nlchp.org/documents/Homeless_Stats_Fact_Sheet

  • This source provides information about the laws regarding homelessness, and poverty in the nation. As I read through the source it seems very professional, and reliable. It provides details on homelessness going way back. Finding this source makes me want to branch out more towards spreading information that is national, and not just talk about the city of Philadelphia, because although it is a situation in Philadelphia it does affect the rest of the nation as well.

10. "Philadelphia unveils new, proactive outreach program for homeless." PhillyVoice. N.p., 16 May 2016. Web. 07 Feb. 2017. <http://www.phillyvoice.com/philadelphia-unveils-new-outreach-program-homeless/>.

  • This article explains that there is apparently a new outreach program created by the city of Philadelphia. It talks about the story of a man they helped, and although he claimed to be homeless it had turned out he could return home whenever he pleased. This is another point I would like to bring out. Most of the time it is the fault of the person themself that they are in that position. Except that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve help. A limitation to this source is that it is from last year on May 16. It is unknown of any other cases in which they were able to help anyone out from this year. So I can not necessarily say this is a successful Philadelphia program.

Bailey Ashley, Edwards Maliya Capstone

Maliya Edwards and I have two similar obstacles in common, but yet we share such different stories. Unlike some of our other peers, Maliya and I are both young mothers in high school. Therefore, we both had a lot to manage and we had to grow up very fast. In this Senior Capstone project you will see memories and actual lifestyle moments from both of our children and our everyday lives. The purpose was to share our story, send a message, educate young people who were thinking about or already young mothers.

In this film, you will see the fun, the games, the tears, the laughter, the experience, and many other things along the way of our lives. We made sure to touch on the hardships, responsibilities, and the reality of our living. There was no script or any written documentation behind this film. We hoped that this video would encourage women who are afraid or feel alone to know that they have support, we hoped this video would teach and educate, and we hope that people understand how how we have worked to get to where we are today. We both have a passion and love for our children, but if this film could change other teenagers lives than we are all for it.

What I did for my capstone I worked with another student name Ashley Bailey. Our mentor for this project is Melissa Lawson. What we did for our capstone was we based this project around our kids and how hard it is to be a teen parent. We did this project because we wanted to get our stories out there to young girls and send a message that it's far from easy to raise a child, go to school and work at the same time every single day. The goal was to do a project that we could enjoy and relate too and to also touch a few young girls to make the correct decision during their teenage years.

It would definitely help if it touches a few girls out there, thats our goal. We do know that it's not going to touch every person out there but this project was definitely worth it. This project was very enjoyable just because Ashley and I love our kids so much it was so nice to put this project together with her. I feel like it came out better than I thought it would in my opinion it was very nice. It meant a lot to me personally to do this project because a lot of people never looked at the hardships of what I have to go through on a daily basis just to try to be the best mother that I can be and also succeed in life it’s really hard. Everyone just look at the cuteness of it all but tend to overlook what we both go through as teen mothers. It's a blessing to be a mother I do know that because it's a lot of women out here who cannot have their own children so I am forever grateful for that. But i just think being a parent for anyone is hard especially a first time parent at that. But as a teen I just think it's even more harder because at that age you are not fully on your own or fully stable. This was by far the most enjoyable project I've had to do all year and I hope that people appreciate our hard work and our story.

Carol Ochs writes a strong supportive message in her, “Resources for Teen Mothers” article. She expresses the hardships of what it is like when becoming a teen mom. The challenge is facing the fact that you have to be a caregiver and a provider for another human being. The challenge is tough and it can be difficult for young women to face. She introduces where young women can seek out for help who can provide moral support as well as babysitting resources, etc. I would like to use this article to spread the positive message that the author of this article gave off and keep the motivation in mind when working with others.

This source lets you know that you qualify for certain benefits and offers automatically from the government for being a teen mom. All in all, the website can be beneficial to anyone who takes advantage of this opportunity of advancing the rights of well-being children that are in jeopardy. The JLC will allow me to state facts and rights that pregnant mothers or teen moms are granted or eligible for.

A Social Work Today describes the benefits and beneficial statistics that comes from within having a social worker in school. The dedicated school members for teen mothers give opportunities for students to engage with motivating and positive role models and mentoring opportunities. A social worker’s help could be the difference of a young lady dropping out of school or not in some cases. I would use this article to talk about the goal and finding a role model that is in their best interest for personal reasons, emotional support, parental support, academic integrity, and post secondary preparation.

Raven Johnson Capstone

African American history is something that is so rich and filled with culture that everyone should learn about it. Especially African Americans. When you are a child your brain gathers almost all the information you know as an adult. Studies even show that children learn the most at ages early as 2 to 5 years old. So why are we not teaching our African American children about their people? The problem is that many grade school children only learn black history during black history month. Unlike high schools, African American history is not required to move onto the next grade, so often history teachers do not go the extra mile to teach this subject. Children unfortunately only learn what they are taught during the short four weeks of black history month, and whatever is in the usually, old, and European based history book. Also, this history is often shown in the wrong light. During black history month the main focus is the civil rights movement and the so-called “main” people involved. People such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X. These are all great people but there could be so much more. I want to change this. For my capstone, I decided that I would create a club teaching children about black history that we didn't learn in school. We met up every Wednesday for about a month and eventually I will be taking these children to the African American history museum in downtown Philadelphia

I didn’t use many sources for my club because all the information I taught was information that I’ve come to learn over the years. I wanted this class to be very personal and not really feel like class for the kids. Here are a few sources I used to help. The Philadelphia MOVE Bombing.” Stuff You Missed in History. N.p., May 2017. Web. This article is an article about the move bombing that happened on philadelphia in 1985. This was one of the things i taught the children during one of our classes. Like many of the subjects i taught, i already knew about this subject. I simply used this article to brush up on the subject. As well as seeing if their was anything i didn’t know or might have missed.

The Bombing of West Philly. YouTube.com. N.p., 19 Jan. 2014. Web. This is a video about the move bombing. One of the subject that i taught the kids was this so i used it as one of my resources. I showed the kids that were a bit older and that i think could handle it the video and then i asked their opinions. I also watched the video myself to see if their was anything different i could learn myself.

Holmes, Corie. “10 Ways to Get Your Child Excited to Learn.” TopTenReviews. N.p., 14 Apr. 2017. Web. This is an article on how to get kids to like learning. I read this because i’m not super experienced in teaching kids so i figured this would definitely help me out with my teachings. I used some of the strategies listed to try to keep the kids engaged and wanting to learn about what i had to say. I also tried to kiddy down the subject to not be as harsh but more informative

Imagine. Create. Entertain. Productions - Lex Martinez & Jason Perez

During our capstone project, Jason Perez and I realized that we have the same interests in a field of work that was very special to us. That field of work was Film and Video, digital media in broader terms. This field of work was special to us because it allowed us to connect to many different types of people not just locally but nationally as well. The field rooted from hard work, collaboration, execution, and passion qualities that developed during our four years at Science Leadership Academy @ Beeber.

With those qualities in mind, we developed the idea of creating a Film Production studio on a small scale, similar to what we have today at SLA's rough cut studios and SLA@B's media lab. We crafted a name, a logo, a mission statement, almost anything and everything you could think of when establishing something as big as a studio.

But life hit us very hard, it was difficult to get funding as teachers didn't support after-school jobs, teachers and students didn't support monetary donations or spreading for awareness, many doubted us, many didn't see what we envisioned for our capstone. It would have been studio that would have taught students that learning is more than textbooks and being at a desk in the classroom. Learning is getting out into the field and expressing and embracing your creative vision, a quality that is suppressed by current  practices.
This was developed on the fact that there is a handful of schools that find the funding to create these programs, both SLA's as an example.
Imagine. Create. Entertain. Productions (I.C.E) would have been a program for any and all students within the Philadelphia school district to learn new skills and develop new media to be seen by millions of people in the world.

Today, I.C.E Productions stands as a long term goal between Jason Perez and I as we work towards building a credible portfolio to be seen by thousands of people. We hope to inspire, entertain, and more importantly teach through the videos we've created utilizing the programs provided by WHYY, SLA@B media lab, and the on-the-fly skills we've developed through experience.

Idil ALTAY CAPSTONE PROJECT

Turkey Map
Turkey Map

For my Capstone I wanted to make something about my country because I’m here for a year, and in this time period I experienced many things like American culture, history, people and etc. Before I return my country, I wanted to introduce mine. Turkey is an important geostrategic power thanks to being located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. I wanted to give some historical facts and some basic information about Turkey. The other thing that I mentioned in my Capstone are Turkish reforms which were made by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. He was our leader after World War I, and he recreated a dead country. One of the most important details for me in this project is my perspective because i compared Turkey and America. I wrote my observations that I have experienced about relationships, daily life and perspectives. This was important for me because this is about my thoughts. I got help from Mr. Elish and we planned to add differences in the educational system between Turkey and America too. This was also important because I was an international student for a year and I learned so much.

She was a medium size, African American women with long dark brown hair. She also had a eye for fashion, so whatever she owned had to be eye catching. On the floor she a beautiful rug that had unique patterns. Her mother gave her a wooden coffee table before she died so she put the table over the beautiful rug. Lastly she a painting that she got when she travel to Paris. The painting was one of her favorite memory, she spent a lot time in Paris for a business trip.

One person that live in the room will be me. The scene in the room is me coming home from a hard day at school. You will see my book bag on the rag on the floor. The book bag will show the view that I was at school also the expression on my face. My phone will also be shown on low battery. My last personal item is my t.v cause I like to play games when I come home from school.

For my project as my final capstone, I have decided to use what I love and share it with my peers. I have decided to teach volleyball to my peers. Since I am very familiar with the sport and what it is you need to do to play it, I thought this would be perfect to teach to people who might not know how to play. Although only a few people were interested they still learned a lot. This process wasn’t very hard being as though I knew what is was I wanted to teach. Before I decided on coaching a volleyball class. I picked a completely different project but I wasn’t very contempt with it so at the last minute I changed it. I have played volleyball since sixth grade. I played/started all four years in high school. I was appointed captain in twelfth grade. Since I was captain I have learned that I am a strong leader so it wasn’t going to be hard to teach an inexperienced group of people the beautiful game of volleyball. After the practice, I have asked my classmates if they have a better understanding of how to play and they all said yes. This was my main goal. I thought it was going to be tricky for them to learn, but they actually picked it up pretty fast. Being as though I only had a day to teach them they performed well and to the best of their ability. The main thing I have learned through this short journey is anybody can learn a skill if the teacher teaches it thoroughly and correctly. Also, I learned that you must be patient and not yell if they do not get it because it does take time.

Abstracts:
For my capstone, I want to do resources about asthma disease. I decided to do this because I want to know more about asthma as well as give information to others. I can give people more information about asthma based on my project information. I did not know much about Asthma attacks and or how to control it. Through this year-long project, I wanted to reach out to my mentor  about researching online. I always work with the mentor once a week so we found out how to teach about Asthma and to teach myself about diseases.
I wanted to teach people about asthma in a compelling method. I wanted to create something that people could easily access and understand. I aimed to produce work that was content rich and concise. So in order to meet all my requirements, I’ve created slideshow parts to my work and give a brief background on the project.  The project goal was to improve the quality of asthma care given to pediatric patients by promoting inclusion of the asthma guidelines into the primary care setting, providing caregivers and children asthma self-management skills to improve asthma outcomes. In addition, the project provided educational instructions to both children with asthma and their caregivers to facilitate asthma self-management. The mission of the capstone project was to provide evidence to the capstone panel to improves pediatric asthma control. The vision of the asthma project was to reduce the asthma burden in children at the community health center and to increase asthma preventative care services to the undeserved children in the community.

“Travel With Me”, is an Ethiopian documentary that I and other film editors created to teach people about the tradition, culture, and history of Ethiopia. Creating this documentary helped me feel much closer to my identity as an Ethiopian and I hope this video inspire others to look at their own culture and background. I created this documentary in a way where people are going on an adventure and seeing, beautiful views that Ethiopia is known for like Axum,  its mountains and much more. In this video, you're expected to see, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which is a capital city, and Tigrai.
In order to create this project, I went on a two-month vacation to Ethiopia where I traveled to Addis Ababa and Tigrai and I visited historical monuments and buildings and interviewed people who are familiar with the history in order to educate myself and my viewers.  Creating this project was very rough, when I was in Ethiopia, my camera was stolen on the last day that I was getting back to America. My camera contained a lot of important videos that I wanted to put in my documentary. But thanks to my outside mentor who works in film editing in Ethiopia helped me to capture those missing footage. I had some hard times in creating this video, but it was an amazing adventure. I hope you enjoy my documentary as much as I had creating it.

Bask in Your Beauty

For my capstone my partner and I, Jada Thomas, created a girls mentoring program called Bask in Your Beauty (BIYB for short). The mission of BIYB is to empower and uplift young woman. We wanted to help girls find the beauty within themselves and the world around them. BIYB met every Wednesday from 1:30-3:15pm. During these sessions, we had discussions, trust building activities, and played games. Jada and I truly feel like we have built a sisterhood within BIYB. We remembered how it felt being a young woman in coping with the many things that come along with being in high school. We wanted the girls to feel like they would always have someone to turn to and we became those people for them. We also wanted the girls to understand that beauty is only skin deep so it is important to make sure that you are being the best person possible on the inside as well as the outside. We helped the girls find beauty in things like music, nature, and even in each other. It felt good for me and Jada to know that we had 20+ girls looking up to us. We ourselves feel like we have gained 20+ little sisters and have vowed to be there for the girls no matter what. Through my capstone, I learned what it felt like to be a leader and have other people look up to you. Having those young girls look up to me helped me carry myself in a way that would ensure I was looked at as a leader. This capstone also prepared me for what it feels like to have an impact on the lives of others, something I plan on doing for as long as I live. I am appreciative of the opportunities and experiences this senior capstone has provided me and we look forward to having BIYB continue long after Jada and I graduate.
