The Impact on Comments

Requirements for this project:

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

Article Refrence http://www.ksat.com/news/police-officer-fired-for-threatening-dallas-woman-on-social-media

The Article I read was a negative article about a police officer who threatened a mothers daughter for the mom putting her child on facebook. He made cruel comments and threatening to take her away at night and criticising the mom for putting her on the internet. This accident impacted the police officer because he was then fired from his job and has multiple court hearings now. This will be bad for him in the future because all he had was being a police officer with not coming into that job with a college education and now that he was fired there's really nothing us for him to do that will pay his bills.

Things that we learned in class like Immediacy, Permanence, and lack of control played a big role in this article.

Let's start with the easy one, Lack of control. One this was posted it messed up his whole life. He had no control over what others did with this comment or what they had to say about it. Some was livid like M Gonzales and some thought he was just giving a friendly/ scary/ wisdom message like Tracy Whitham.

Tracey Whitham

¨I think he was attempting to warn her that posting your child could put her in danger and to hug her because it could be her last. Stop posting or using your children. The Internet is open to a lot more than you realize.¨

M Gonzales

¨Yeah! The Internet is also open to idiots like you. Same harm can come to adults as well. I suggest you stay off social media.¨

Permanency played a role because after he posted it although he deleted it others took it and it became viral. There was nothing that he could do about it and that's what made OPPD and OPPD police chief upset.

OPPD Police Chief Francis Donchez said. “It was obvious that our officer did not meet the standards of professionalism for the Overland Park Police Department. Overland Park has terminated the officer, effective immediately.”

The Last one that we learned about in class was Lack of control. It was simply nothing that he could do to make everything disappear from the world. Everyone of the points that we learned in class played a role in his case and everyone's else case. This made me reflect on what i post on the internet and it should make you be cautious about what you put on the internet as well.

My personal Advice to the officer was that he should have never said those comments even if he really did not mean to say them. If I had to say something to everyone I would say that Everyone should think before their post and make sure that what you say is not hurtful in a way you did not mean it to be.

Think Before you Post

  Think Before you Post

                                          By:Katherine Russell

Amanda Todd is mostly known for her YouTube post of her telling her story with flash cards. Her death was lead to cyberbullying(online and offline) and harassment. Her story started during a facetime online with some friends. They dared her to flash on camera, Amanda then flashed her friends, at first she didn’t think of the consequences. How immediacy in this story is that the next day (after Amanda Todd flashed her friends), the police came to Todd’s home, saying that someone took a picture of her flashing. The picture was posted online and became viral. Amanda tried her best to get it down, but a man took a screenshot of her chest and sent it to everyone she knows.

"I can never get that photo back," she wrote. "It's out there forever." quote Amanda Todd. This lack of control and performance is what drove Amanda to drugs, depression, cutting and a suicide attempt with bleach. Amanda also tried to escape her bullies by moving from towns and schools. Even though the picture was Amanda had the choice to flash or not, her lack of control online is what lead to her death. How permanence played in this story is that people who saw and took a screenshot of the picture would never forget about it. Also no one would let her forget about it either. If I ever had the chance to warn Amanda about her action, is that think before you do, because whatever you do it can haunt you forever.

Think before you post

When she was 13 Amanda Todd made a mistake she deemed harmless at the moment. That mistake snowballed until the end of her life  two years later. When Amanda Todd was 15 she committed suicide, because she felt like she was trapped in a situation she had no control over. Her mistake was thinking she could trust someone she deemed trustworthy  with pictures of her body. The person who took the pictures decided to distribute them throughout the internet which in turn fueled a campaign to cyberbully Todd. In the two years between Todd’s suicide and the pictures being spread, she turned to self-harm, alcohol and drugs to cope with the immense cyber bullying. Since she realized she couldn’t control the spread of the images or the bullying, she turned to things she felt she could control. She was in a situation she could not control because of social media and she chose to take control of the only thing she felt she could: her life. On October 10,2012 Todd took her life in a response to the bullying she received. Before you post, think about how it affects the other person.

The Check-In's of the North Dakota Pipeline

The North Dakota pipeline movement have been shaking social media these past few months. And their impact on sites such as Facebook are spreading throughout the world. This article states how people are somewhat ‘checking in’ on Facebook to show that they’re going to Standing Rock, ND to protest against the pipeline. There was a post on Facebook, saying that the sheriff department checks on Facebook to see how many people are going to protest and who exactly are they.  A post came in, though the article doesn’t state the identity of the person who posted it. Many people have ‘checked in’ on Facebook, claiming that they are protesting on the North Dakota pipelines. It’s to trick the police and try to find a way to help the protesters of the pipeline.

Though I don’t have the identity of the one individual who posted the comment but their actions did help the protesters, in a way. People were ‘participating’ through the screen of their phone or laptops. They had an impact on the pipeline protest, finding a way to help the people and try to confuse the police but they didn’t have that big of a effect. On the article, say of the actual protesters said that it would have been nice if the people who claimed they were at Standing Rock, North Dakota could actually be there. Their participation on the protest didn’t really have as much as a positive effect as they were suppose it. Instead they might have just confused and annoyed the police. Plus, the article says that the sheriff department actually doesn’t monitor Facebook feeds or comments about people protesting the North Dakota pipeline. They say it’s completely false.

Immediacy plays into this. Everyone saw the post and since they felt bad for the people protesting the pipeline being arrested and they’re not able to help them, they decided to believe into this ‘check in’ on Facebook and participate in that. The post has an positive impact on the people in Facebook. It rallied some up to post that they were going to North Dakota to protest against the pipeline and as more people were posting, it eventually had articles on it and gaining some popularity. Maybe teenagers and students on Facebook see this posts and think to try to do something for the community. My advice would be next time, instead of just saying something on the Internet, go and try to make a positive impact on your own. If you can’t physically go, maybe donate and speak out for the cause. Try to inform everybody about it and how it’s bad for people who are protesting against it and are being arrested for something they believe in.

I think the motives of this whole ‘check in’ thing was good. They had good intentions but if they really wanted to play a role in this, try to actually go to North Dakota and participate in the protests. The post was claimed to be false in information and just confused the department. They did have some form of support for the protesters of the North Dakota pipeline but one of them did say, “It would have nice to have those 550,000 people really here.”

"White Makes You Win!"

This article has a negitive effect on the people around us. In this was a cosmetics video featuring Cris Horwang and another model. They show a model with a very light skin-tone and then they slowly begin to show Cris appear in a darker skin-tone. It was like comparing a white and black person together. Then the narrator then says, "White makes you win" as to say that being white or a much lighter skin-tone is better. This may make others of a darker tone feel insecure about themselves. Immediacy- the video was sent out after edits and filming. Permanence- They didn't delete it but they did apologize because it was racist and they didn't realize at first. Lack of Control- Once they uploaded it they couldn't control the comments and things that they got.

Be Conscious, Think Before you Post

Kaitlyn Bond

This article is about Carly Mckinney, a first year tenth grade math teacher, who Tweeted inappropriate pictures of herself, regularly Tweeted about her liking to smoke pot, and used rave and drug-related hashtags. Mckinney was a teacher at Overland High School in Aurora, Colorado. This incident affected Mckinney greatly, it resulted in her getting fired from her job as a teacher. In addition, it may be more difficult for Mckinney to get a job in the future due to her online choices. Mckinney’s online choices affected others because the students that she had didn’t have her as a teacher anymore, and Overland High School had to find another teacher to take Mckinney’s place. Also, it affected the school district because they had to make a statement on the situation and it might have made some people think that the school district isn’t doing a good enough job at tracking their employee’s online lives.

Immediacy affected Carly Mckinney’s situation a large amount because once she posted the photos and posts, she couldn’t ever gain control of them again, and this may be one of the reasons why Mckinney was fired. Everybody could have been sharing the photos and posts around almost immediately, and eventually the school district was able to see the photos, which probably didn’t take very long. Permanence has affected Mckinney’s situation because even if you delete a post, somebody will most likely be able to find it, since the photos and posts may have been shared so many times, it would be hard to keep the photos and posts hidden. Lastly, lack of control affected Mckinney because once she posted those tweets online, she couldn’t ever get them back or have them completely erased. If I could give Mckinney advice, I would say that she probably shouldn’t do the things that she’s doing, or at the very least not post about them. In addition, I would say that she should delete the posts or start a new Twitter account, and start fresh from what she can control. In conclusion, everybody should be cautious about what they post online because their lives could be greatly affected by it.

My project is all about me. It talks about things about me, my resume, and a project I did last year. My goal throughout this project was to tell everyone some things about me. What I hoped to learn throughout this project was how to create a website and all the different parts of a website. And I did learn those two things. To make this website, I first had to find a website. I had one at first but I decided to change it. After that, I had to create my Home page, About Me page, Resume page, and Project page. I then added information on the pages and I was done. One failure I had was that my first website deleted all my stuff so I had to use another website. What I learned besides the other two things about my website is that you always need a backup plan. What I learned about myself is that I learned I have more accomplishments than I thought. If I was to do this project differently, I would add more pictures. A tip I would tell others doing this project is make you have another website just in case your first website doesn’t work out. This project didn’t really inspire me although it was fun. I think the message dictated the medium because this entire project was about me.

Color Wheel Project

             What’s your Future?

I created this project because I didn’t want to just make my project a little  different.  I didn’t just want to have a color wheel , so I started thinking of ways to incorporate the color wheel into a overall picture. I went from trying to use inspiration from a show to nothing. Until one day it hit me. Out of nowhere, I thought about using a fortune teller. This way I would be able to incorporate the color wheel in a cool way. Because of the cool incorporation with the fortune teller and the color wheel being multi-purposeful , I believe the audience will love it. I think they would commend me for my vision and creativeness.

Similar to my other works. I like to make my work creative, deep and making  it something that you have to make  the most out of it. Another reason, why it’s similar to my other works is  if it were thrown into a pile of my other works it wouldn’t stick out in a negative .I think my work also compares to contemporary works in modern society because I took some 21st century influence. I also gave my work and message I constantly think about which I titled the painting. This fits in with history because it’s contemporary art. Making it fit in a unique category.  I used pictures from this site to draw inspiration : "Love Fortune Telling." Love Fortune Telling. N.p., n.d. Web. 31 Oct. 2016. An artist that influences me is James Patterson. He fits into my work a lot because we give our work a realistic comic book feel. Our work looks like it could be in a comic book. A technique I find useful and mimic is the number of drafts he would make of one work. He would remake something as many as 9 times to really work it over. I never did this before learning about him. It makes the work look really clean.

Design and Media Quarter 1 Project

Home Page of Digital Portfolio
Home Page of Digital Portfolio

In doing his project, I wanted to show the world a glimpse of my life. While completing this, I included details of my life in and out of school, as well as extracurricular activities that I am participating in. My goal was to at least scratch the surface of the many accomplishments I have made, and I what I still hope to accomplish. In order to do all of this, I created a homepage to introduce my viewers to my website, an about me page to give a little tidbit of my life, a project page to highlight a project I have completed, and a resume page to list my achievements. In addition to all this, I created a Gallery to explain the pictures I have on my website. A failure I encountered was that the explanation for my homepage got deleted. I overcame this by just making a new one, instead of wasting time complaining.

By completing this project, I learned many new features and abilities of the website editor Weebly. As far as what I learned about myself, even though I separated my life outside of school into rowing, Teen Bible Quiz, and social life, I realize now that all my life is social, and that I interact with others in everything I do. The only thing different I would do on this project if I did it all over again was make the pages more aesthetically pleasing. In other words, I would spend more time designing the format of each page instead of typing as much as I did. A tip I would give to others who are completing this project is to think of the things that you most care about, and base your website off of those areas of your life. This portfolio has inspired me to chase my dreams and continue doing well in everything I do. The message of this project dicated the medium. The reason I think so is because depending on what I was displaying on any particular page, that influenced what the background would be, and how I would go about explaining the page.

Color wheel: Dream Catcher Edition

The reason why I decided to draw a dreamcatcher because they are used induce positive dreams and push away all negative dreams away. I enjoy having peaceful sleep and positive dreams because then I’m able to have an enjoyable next day. Overall I think I did this very well, but I do believe that this is good artwork, but I could have did a little better on the background. I expect my audience to notice the primary, secondary, tertiary and tints as well as the object that I drew. They should see how I worked the different colors into the dream catcher. There  is nothing right now that relates to this image, but I really enjoy the idea of me doing something new that I haven’t done before. I don’t think this piece really fits with contemporary art, but it could possible fit a little due to the colors. It can fit with the history of art because there was always color and color is still used in this time period as it has always been today.

It doesn’t really fit with other works that I have did that much other than the colors that is done, but I never really drew something like this before.I looked over a few pictures off of google to get an idea, but nothing more. I already had an idea of it honestly when I was thinking of exceeding expectations for this project.I honestly wasn’t influenced by anyone for this project, but I was simply influenced by exceeding expectations by finding other circular things to use as a color wheel for myself.I find it important to always have the primary colors present when painting because you can make any color as long as you have those three colors on your palette.I learned that I don’t always have to buy a lot of paint in order to create new colors for a picture that  I’m painting at the time.

Quarter 1 color wheel project

Nathan Lewis

Art 2

Artist statement

When I started thinking of this project I wanted to do something different from just a regular color wheel, so I went on google to see different ideas. I saw a color wheel on google and I liked it so I did that for my project. I did that because I thought it was cool how it had the colors in the leaves. Even though this is not my original piece I added my own touch to it. What I did was; I did a tint from the leaves going down to the root and I also added a background of different colors all splashed around in an unorganized way.

I think this piece was ok, it could’ve been better if I made it bigger so that the shade could show some more, but when people look at this I want them to have their own interpretation of it and I also wants it to show people to think outside of box and because of the background I want it to be seen as also a very vibrant piece of Art which reminds me a lot of when i first started drawing and coloring, I used to always use a lot of colors and I think that represents the kind of person that I am.

"I'm A Dreamer" Color Wheel

IMG_20161010_142252
IMG_20161010_142252
I have created this work because I liked the idea of having a range of colors flowing from an object, it’s a very creative and interesting thing to draw and create.
My overall vision of my work seems to be very inspiring. I got a lot of compliments on what i did and it made me more confident in what I did. I had the picture in my mind and it came out almost exactly the way i expected it to mainly because of the object i used as my centerpiece. The paint’s that we used weren’t exactly what I imagined but it got the job done and brought my vision to life.
I expect my audience to appreciate the effort that i put into my artwork and to complement it on what it is. I would love constructive feedback because you can never improve too much.
I would say that my current work is just as good and my previous work, it just so happens that this one was just a different type of piece. I feel like it’s good to broaden my experience in the “artplace”. It relates in a way simply because it comes from the same place. Everytime I do a new piece it comes from me.
Current contemporary art and the work i have don are probably on two whole different scales in my opinion. Looking at contemporary art it make mine look like a child’s sketch. But that makes me better because I know my inspiration and as long as i keep doing what I have been my work will continue to get better over time.
History of art practice is exactly what we are bringing out every time we do a new piece of art. Using this “color wheel” method it brings about where our colors come from and how we use them in different ways that make them original. Even though it’s the same colors it’s a different piece.
I think my work would stand out in a group exhibition because of how bright my colors and and the technique i used.
My inspiration was tumblr. I love the photography that pops up when you google “Tumblr” it's a reflection of how i see everything. I always use that as my inspiration for my art. But i think think that if i used something else as my inspiration my work would be completely different.
If tumblr artists relates to “other artists” then i have been influenced by their style and use of color and fading tints.
A certain technique isn’t crucial but you must have an idea of what you want your work to look like in the long run so before you start you want to have a game plan and an idea of what you want your work to look like so if you follow those steps your work will come out as planned.
A new technique i have learned is the color wheel itself, i learned how to make tints and it reminded me of what my colors are and how to use them . I’ve never done a color wheel before so it gave me some insight on what colors i could use and how i could use them.
Overall I feel as though my art piece was meaningful to me in the best way possible, it brings out the artist in me and it shows my vision and love for owls. I think that choosing to do my piece this way really compliments my ideas and the requirements for the project itself. I think the time i spent on doing this work shows graciously and I’m very proud to show my work off to those who have not seen it yet, as well as all my other pieces i have done in the past.

Quarter 1 Color Wheel Project - Aliya

IMG_3547
IMG_3547
Our project this quarter was to create a color wheel.  We had to use the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors and add tints to each of them.  I chose to make mine a flower because I enjoy drawing flowers and I thought it was a cool way to show off each of the colors.  I visioned my flower’s petals all having the same size pedals but when I drew it out it came out as one big pedal then two smaller ones in a continuing pattern.  I hope my audience enjoys my painting.  Even though it looks simple I hope they understand more goes into it then it looks like.  This work relates to previous work I have done because I have done a lot of drawings with flowers that look like this one.   I feel like my work fits in with current contemporary art because of all the bright colors.  When I looked up different pics of some current contemporary art, a lot were bright and abstract.  This project relates to the color wheel created by Sir Isaac Newton in 1706.  I got inspiration for my work from past things I have done.  I like to draw and sketch flowers so I got the idea from that.  An artist that has influenced me in my work is Keith Haring.  I just love the colors he uses and how everything pops out.  I feel I do a lot of my work like that.  I feel like my art could fit in with other bright abstract pieces.  I used a darker background to make mine really pop.  A certain technique that I used in my work was drawing the lines slowly so the pedals all looked even to each other.  I am very proud of this piece.  This piece is something that I know I am good at which is drawing flowers.  For my next project I hope to go out of my comfort zone and try to draw something new.  Art is something I love doing and I want to keep exploring it.

Quarter 1 Artist Statement

For my color wheel project, I decided to draw a simple color wheel because I didn't want to do anything big and I wanted it to be really simple. My overall vision of the work I did turned out to better than I expect it. I expect my audience to react in a positive way and I think that they will react in a positive way. My current work relates to my previous work  I have done in art classes because I have done a lot of drawing and painting in my art class and I also learn how to mix colors when I was in 5th grade. My work fits in with the current contemporary art because artists had to use the color wheel to learn the primary and secondary colors. My work fits in with the history of art practice because the color wheel was used to practice on how to mix colors. My work fits into a series of projects I have done because I have done the color wheel project in my previous art class. The artist that have inspired me in art is Frida Kahlo.  Throughout the whole process of my project, I have gotten better at learning my primary and secondary colors and I have also gotten better at mixing colors.

"Emotions" - Artist statement

Emotions

I’ve created “Emotions” because I’m highly fascinated in affective science (the study of emotions or affect) and colors. That’s why I took these two elements that are commonly used in art and made my not so much of a color wheel, but colors from the color wheel into a pulse pattern. When we have feelings, our body reacts to those feelings in different ways, we also tend to correspond those feelings to colors, Such as the color red. Anger. When you’re angry, your pulse-rate will quicken. Or the color blue, sadness. Your pulse-rate will slow down. Also Yellow, Happiness! You can be either way when you’re happy; I start moving quickly because I get so jittery!

I think others would be able to relate once I explain why in certain colors the pulse-rate spikes. The thing that makes this project so different from my previous projects would have to be that I was given feedback and suggestions while finishing up. This made me re-think about how I was going to go about the final touches. My work totally fits in with contemporary work today.  The color wheel is a classic, but I added science into mine, and science/technology is a must nowadays.

I was influenced by many artist such as, Vincent Van Gogh and Mark Rothko, who unfortunately painted such deep and meaningful paintings at such depressing moments of their lives. Even though my work isn’t depressing it shows how emotion can depict your work.

In conclusion, “Emotions” is actually my most emotional piece of work. I am extremely happy with how it came to be. I’d have to say the Artist Critique was my main highlight of this project. I don’t usually get constructive criticism when I draw or paint, and when I did, it helped make me see my art in another perspective which was really helpful as I finished up my work. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy “Emotions”!

Essence's Artist Statement

My Artist Statement
I created an eye, I’m not sure why I did it just appealed to me. I think it kind of shows the different colors that we see throughout the day and how they light up our eyes. I also think this painting really outlines the beauty of vision that many take for granted, and I hope that’s what people see when they view this painting. I hope they find it creative and see it how I do. In past art Ive worked on, I always hoped to outline and enhance whatever I was doing. I believe that’s what I did with this eye; I took something simple and used colors to enhance and embrace its inner beauty.
This painting fits in with contemporary art because it's showing a color wheel and how artist learn to mix different colors to make new ones. My art fits into the history of art practices because it demonstrates how the pioneers of art first learned how to mix colors. I don't feel as though my art necessarily fits into a category because my past art projects have never been with paint or anything relatively in this category. I didn't have one source of inspiration for my images, after looking through several of images online and work by different artist like
Frida Kahlo, I came up with my idea. One technique that was important for my drawing was making streaks in one direction. This was essential to keeping my paining looking neat.
Basically this was an important project for me because I learned how to manage my painting better. This project helped me notice how to capture somethings beauty and elevate it and I overall enjoyed it and learned a lot from it as a whole.  Next time I have a project I hope to improve it even more.

Color Wheel Project

Color Wheel is a circle with different colored sectors used to show the relationship between colors. For this project I chose to do a ballerina’s dance with two layers. I created this work because it was very unique and different. Also, I was able to put my own spin on the design and background.Overall I think I good job and took my time on each color to create the right tints. I chose to do an light purple and black round to complaint the color wheel of the ballerina's dress.

I expected my audience to help me make my art work better. My partner gave me both positive and negative feedback about my artwork. My current work relates to one of my previous projects when I had to create a pattern of colors. My art work fits in Modern Day art when it comes to different types of contemporary art.

A source that was inspiration to my artwork was a similar printing by another high school student. An artist that I have been influnced by is my current/ past art teachers. Their art work has shown me how to put my own twist on artwork that I create to be more unique. This work fits into a series of work because I am able to use what I learned about the colors in father more projects. A certain technique that was important was the type of paint brush and amount of paint I used for each color. A new technique that I learned during this process was using.

Q1 | Color Wheel | Blog Post

I created a generic color wheel. My overall vision for this work didn’t come out the way I expected it to come out though. It looks okay but I feel like I could have done so much better. I also think the people who look at it will just see it as another color wheel and not something extraordinary. I thought it would’ve looked nice if I made the primary colors have triangles in it.

My current work relates to my previous work because I used colors in all my other artwork and I used all of these colors in those as well. My work also relates to historic work because they probably only used primary colors and had to make other colors to get the work they wanted to achieve. I created this work because I thought it would look nice. I think what ruined my work was going over the colors over and over again. That’s why it looks messy.

Artist Statement

The object of the project was to see how colors mixed and see how three primary colors could mix into many different colors. We could have done an ordinary color wheel, but I decided that I wanted to do a dream catcher because it had a lot more parts and it was more complex than a regular wheel.

My overall vision when I started the project was to do something different and unique, but make sure it was easy enough to incorporate all the colors of the color wheel. Some of my colors like blue-green and yellow-green came out looking a weird looking gray. I think my audience will react in a positive way because my drawing was very unique and where I placed the colors was thought out. My current work relates to my previous work , because in 2nd grade we used to do free sketches , and when we started our project in this class, we had the choice to do any kind of sketch that we wanted. My art fits in with the history of contemporary art because the color wheel was how artists around the world learned how to mix colors. Also, people get dreamcatchers tattooed on themselves in the modern world. One of my influences in the art world is Frida Kahlo. She’s an artist that I really paid attention to, so when I do do an art project, I compare my art to hers. I feel that this was portrayed in my dreamcatcher.

I think my art doesn’t fit into my group of art projects because I’ve never worked on something with so many components and room for error. All of my other projects were simple. A new technique I learned from this project was how to mix colors to make new and mix colors that aren’t into a new but are met at the middle (ex. Yellow-green and blue). Overall, this project was a success and I learned new techniques and a little bit about the history of color mixing.

Color wheel

The work I created was a color wheel , I choose to make mine like a umbrella with a person standing under it in the rain because I thought it was creative and cool I like how the circle was a cool idea to make as an umbrella. This work was created to show the difference between primary , secondary , tertiary and tint colors. To make sure I know the difference and how to mix colors. My Overall vision for this was to Just get a good grade and make sure I have a complete understanding for mixing paints and to know  the difference between all colors and what they change to once you mix them.

What I expect from my audience is that they won't necessarily look at the umbrella portion but they will look at the paints and understand that I only started off with certain colors and had to mix them to get others. I think once they understand what I had to go through to get the other paints they’ll think that it’s really cool and not so much difficult you’ll just have to know what you're doing This current work relates to my previous work because I started off with certain colors that’s all I could use to get my work now with is mixed with multiple colors. My art fits the history of art practice because you had to keep going through trials to get the right color for example starting off I only had blue red and yellow I had to mix a few colors to get green and purple. The inspiration I got from my project came from Mrs.Hertz I really liked hers so I decided to do mine like that I thought it was really creative.

A certain technique to this art that is important is that you may mess up  a few times but you have to keep trying until you mix and get the right color it's all about PATIENCE. The only artist I will ever be influenced by is Mrs. Wonderful Hertz because she gives me all my ideas and I go off of that. A new technique I learned is in making white colors when you add white to the color , it comes out really light and pretty which I like . A technique to this work is important because if you don't know how to mix paints you won't get the job done or so it correctly. This can fit into a series of longer work because once you know how to mix paint when you create something you can do anything and make it art by adding this and that! So in a nutshell I chose to do my color wheel as a umbrella I thought it was creative cute and straightforward to get the job done especially because a umbrella could be cut into to certain parts with different designs that  gave me the choice of putting my colors how ever I wanted as long as they were on there

Quarter 1 Color Triangle

IMG_1905
IMG_1905

I created this work because I wanted to create a color wheel that was a little different than the traditional circle. Still, I wanted to keep it simple, so I created a triangle, since there are 3 primary colors, and 3 secondary colors. Also, everything is divisible by three, so I thought it would be pleasing to the eye if I created a triangle. In addition to the outside triangle, I put an upside down triangle in the bigger one to create the tints of all 12 of the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. I put all the warm colors mostly together, the hot colors together, and the cold colors together and I expect the audience to recognize that. However, the change in colors doesn’t flow as easily as a circle. Everything that people make are made up of colors and everything in the earth is a certain color, whether it is an object or a painting of an object. So, a color wheel, or in my case, a color triangle, is used to compare the colors of actual objects to paintings that are being done, or in order to identify colors in any given painting or object. This applies to artwork I made with paint in school. Most of these artworks were self-portraits, and in order to make the painting as realistic as possible, I realized I had to mix colors in different levels to get the color that I need. So, I used the basic color wheel as a reference.

The color wheel is the base of all works of art, and many artists use a color wheel as reference for what the basic 12 colors look like. Therefore, color wheels have been used ever since the beginning of when art was first made. As far as work that is being made currently or in the past 10 years, there are many complex paintings and sculptures. An example of a contemporary artist who uses these colors is Frank Stella. In order for artists to make these artworks they have to start with the basic colors. The basic colors are found on the color wheel. I was inspired to do this interpretation of the color wheel by my own imagination. I didn’t look on the internet for any ideas, rather I just thought of different shapes I could do, and I came up with a triangle. Something I learned from doing this project is the ratio of the different colors. For example, if I am trying to make red-orange, I need to mix red and yellow together, but more red needs to be put in the mixture. So, the technique I learned is that you don’t need to mix red with orange to make red-orange, but I could just mix red and yellow together and simply put more red in the mixture. The technique of mixing paint is important to the work because I need to make sure the colors I mix are able to be recognized.

Look At The Life Of An African American Woman

Look At The Life Of An African American Woman

Life of a Black Philly Kid

People ask where I'm from then assume they know me

Well I'm from,

Where family are back stabbers and backstabbers are your closest friends

I‘m from the city of brotherly love

Where love is a lie and love is hate

No one sees what goes on, No one cares what happens

I’m from where guns are popular

Where you could get shot just from walking down the street

And when a White cop shoots a black kid it's the black kids fault

I’m from where cops fight you instead of help you

From where people are animals

Pigs, Rats, and Snakes

Where its right to take what's not yours

I'm from where we hide the truth because the lies are easier to believe

I say don't judge a book by its cover

I'm from when everyone knows every one

From where people fight for what they believe in

And from where people assume that we will live terrible life less lives because we are black

I'm from PHILLY!!

One of the prompts that we had to write a where I'm from poem. Well I took the liberty in rewriting mine because in the last 3 years at SLA, my teachers made us study about how being black changes things and we learned all about white privilege. In doing all of this studying of this topic I learn that people judge you on what you look like, where you come from, and how you speak. It maynot be the best way to do things but this is how people view other people.

The Break Up

Man you look like you have something to say.
I don't like the way you look at her, Sir.
Man!? I thought what you all had was all a blur.
Would you be bored with me if i made you stay.
To tell the truth I’m bored with you anyway.
Excuse me sir, but would you prefer her.
I really don't need you in my life, Sir.
I’m not even going to make you stay.
Please don't stay with me, cause I don't need you.
It's so sad to say, that I don't need you.
It's too clear to see that I don't need you.

For this poem I choose to do a free write. This fits under my topic because black women are always told that they carry this crazy attitude and that they treat people like the world has turned their back on them. In this poem the speaker is jumping to conclusions. He/she is upset about something they only got a glimpse of. So in their mind their partner is doing wrong. I think this is a strong stereotype for black women, matter of fact for women in general.

What is Life?

Anger is another person,
holding a gun to your head making you do violent things.
Anger is not a feeling, it's an opponent trying to make your forfeit,
Pushing you to your breaking point and never letting up
Until you finally break.

Love is an experiment.
Trying over and over again to see witch heart best coincides with yours,
getting hurt when something goes wrong, than trying something new just to make it right.
Love is when you go back to the first experiment
when you see that what you have is not working.
You make hypothesizes,
there not always good one
but you have to think about the outcome of the relationships.
You do test after test and still none is good for you.
You are that dependent variable
trying to see if that  independent variable changes you,
changes your life into something more,
into something better.
Your are jotting down notes in your memory
trying not to make the same mistake again.

I wrote this poem because I feel as though Black women or in this case women in general have trouble finding themselves because of Life. Love and Anger are problems that you can never officially get rid of. They stay in the back of your mind and heart. Seeing so many people get hurt and having so many people hurt you slowly brakes you and starts leading to other feelings life throws at you like trust issues and hatred.

Artist Statement for Hummingbird Color Wheel project 1

Artist Statement

Your overall vision for the work.

My overall vision for the work was to think about making a hummingbird color wheel to show that the color wheel has different shades.

What you expect from your audience and how you think they will react?

I expect the audience to understand the concept of colors and shades, and I hope they like my art.

How your current work relates to your previous work.

My current artwork relates to my previous as I took a painting class at the Moore School of Art where we were learning about shading, like grays and tints.  I also took another class like Fashion Design where we looked for colors that popped and that worked together.

Sources and inspiration for your images?

Well, I saw the typical color wheel online just to make sure I put all the different tones on. My next step was looking for a color wheel that was creatively, unique, and should my arts side. I looked at  animals that I could  use to put over the color wheel as a sketch over the wheel that would be drawn and bolded in black.

How has your Art been influenced?

I was influenced by my first teacher in first and second grade teacher, Debbie.  She inspired me by telling me that art is not done for perfection but as fun and messy. Another person that inspired me aswell was this Ralph Smith that live in my house. He lifted his artwork in the house before he passed away but his artwork was incredible. He did prints (using wood bricks and carving them), panting, pencil drawing, and pastel drawings a well. But he was extra creative.

How this work fits into a series or longer body of work?

If I were to have this piece fit into a series, I would play with one certain primary color and focus on it and maybe put a animal over it like I did to my first one.

How a certain technique is important to the work?

The technique that is important to this work is colors and shades.  Color and shades are important because they make a work more interesting, realistic, add mode.

A new technique that you learned or experimented more with in the process of making this work?

One of the technique that I used was I  angled my paint brush so that the paint would fall perfectly on the paper to make exact  paint strokes.

The final paragraph should recapitulate the most important points in the statement.
