(Jose Colon) Reproductive Health

Reflection:
This video contains information regarding reproductive health and also what it means to high school seniors and other professionals, such as Christopher Johnson and Adrienne Williams. The most notable information can be found in each of the three interviews within the video. This information entails background on Planned Parenthood and also what reproductive health looks like today, the video even mentions that good reproductive health care incorporates people from all socioeconomic statuses. I myself contributed to the research, video editing, and interviewing. I would say my group and I did well with the interviewing process and finding people who all individually could contribute different points on reproductive health. The most meaningful part about creating this video to me was gathering information regarding what good reproductive Health Care looks like in today's world.

Heart Diseases and Strokes By: Bianca Oglesby

For this project, I wasn’t able to pick my own topic. The topic of Heart Disease and Stroke was not my choice on a topic for my benchmark. When I did this project the topic was not what I wanted to do. It was difficult to do this project because I had other topics in mind that I had a connection to. I wanted to do a different topic that I could relate to, but we had to reach into a bag and pick my topic.

When doing this project I put effort and work into it. I helped with the checkpoints. I helped with the interview and I was able to help a lot with the editing of the video. My whole group help with certain parts of the components. We have our strength and weakness, but we were all able to help with some part of the benchmark.

The most meaningful part of the project was the anticipation of completing the project and turning it in soon. I’m happy that it is over. One other part of this project that was important was that interview we did. We received a lot of information from her about heart disease and strokes. She was very helpful to the topic.

Factors that affect the public health care can come done to many things. It depends on the money you make, the access you have to a clinic, and what policies that are put in place for your economic status. All of those things can effect rather or not you have healthcare or how you get treated. Sometimes those things can stop you from getting treatment. If there is not money for the disease you have then there can’t be any research done to help you. You don’t only have to be a doctor to be in the public health. You can be a lawyer or someone who studies public health, epidemiology.

Alcohol Harms

The topic of alcohol harms was something that I can really relate to because I am about to go to college. Going to college presents many temptations including alcohol. I felt it was important to educate myself as well as my peers about the harms alcohol presents. In this video, we featured an interview with Michelle Heyward. Ms. Heyward is the director of the drug-free coalitions of Philadelphia. She gave us some insightful information about the harms of alcohol.

I contributed to this video by being the one who set up the interview and wrote out the interview questions. I was also featured in the actual video asking the questions. I think that I did a good job of asking insightful questions for our speaker that would make the video interesting. The most meaningful part of the PSA was making the message relatable to Philadelphia.

Throughout this PSA we learned about factors that affect public health. These factors include income, location, education and literacy, and the support of the government. We also learned how the economy, politics, and society play a big role in the healthcare system. Ms. Heyward talked to us about the 12 Sectors that play a role in the drug free coalitions. These 12 sectors all come together to play a big role in the prevention of drug and alcohol use. We featured those 12 sectors in our PSA.

Quarter 4 Benchmark: Motor Vehicle Injury

For our last benchmark in Anatomy and Physiology, my group members and I decided to talking motor vehicle injuries, and how it is a public health issue. I believe strongly in this topic as my mother drives for a living (she is a trolley operator under SEPTA) and she often tells me about accidents she's seen/been in and how recklessly some people drive in Philadelphia.
For the checkpoints, all the work was shared equally, but when it came to complete the PSA, I was in charge of editing the video and making it informative and interesting. I believe that I achieved what my goal was for the PSA, but what I could of done better is communication with my group mates. We would often be left in the dark with each other and I know that I can take some blame in this.
I feel that the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA is creating the message to send to our fellow peers of being careful. A lot of people our age are being hurt, and our country is a world leader, spending thousands of dollars because of motor vehicle injury. Getting this information out there and giving people a gentle reminder to be careful is the best thing.

Reproductive Health Care - Tsion Tuhco

My group members and I made an informative PSA on reproductive health care and what it means and also programs like Planned Parenthood that support, educate, and provide services for individuals about reproductive health, ranging from sex education to abortion. We specifically looked into programs like Planned Parenthood and their purpose. Because of our recent presidential nominee, the Republican party wants to stop the federal funding to Planned Parenthood because they offer abortion services. Stopping Planned Parenthood puts millions of people who depend on it at risk and our goal is to educate that to others. In order to achieve this goal, we interviewed a nurse, a counselor, and a principal at a high school. My job was to interview, research the political aspect of Planned Parenthood, and help to edit the video. Overall, my group members and I achieved our goal and everyone did their part on this project.

Heart Disease and Stroke PSA

My video includes an interview, a skit and some portions of the video are facts that relate to interview. The skit was chosen because it gave our video something that wasn’t just straight facts. We chose to put the facts in the video because they related to the topics that our interview person brung up. We did not choose this topic it was given to us.

In the group I found the person to interview made contact with her. I set up the interview. I helped design questions and the order in which we asked them. I also helped to gather some facts. I contributed well to my group. I could have done better with communication with my group members. The thing that really made proud about this project is how it came full circle. We asked questions that we could relate back to our lives. The best thing about the PSA was how it was relatable. So many things go into public health, such as, race, identity, geography, politics and sociology.

Capstone Project

Ms. Lawson

“ Blast From The Past “ was a fashion show that I and two others conducted together as our capstone project. Our fashion show took place in the auditorium of SLA @ Beeber. The name of the show is called “ Blast From The Past “ because all of our different scenes from the show was decades. Our show featured the 70’s, 90’s, Present , and Afrocentric scenes.

Each scene was designated to either me or one of my partners. At first when we decided to have a fashion show as our capstone, we were going to bring in designers around Philly and present their clothes. However, after time passed we realized that we wouldn’t be doing any work. We changed our initial idea and plan for our capstone. We still were doing a Fashion show, but this time we were the designers.  Each scene was given to either me or my partners, and individually we styled the clothes that the models wore to replicate the decades. Having the idea in tact was just the first task of many in order for our Capstone Project to be a success. The process of our Capstone was not an easy one, but it was a fun one. Through this Fashion Show students from 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade were able to connect and bond. Students became more comfortable with each other and was allowed to feel like themselves no matter how silly they each felt about the clothes.

This project has taught me a lot when it comes to my future life. I learned that if you want to put on a production, you must have an equipped team. This was one of the biggest things I learned working on my Capstone this year. Being able to learn this now is extremely influential to my future aspirations. Also, I learned a lot about the different fashion trends and fabrics that went with each decade. With this I was able to see what changed through the years, and/or what trend stayed. The Blast From The Past show had a great outcome,  many enjoyed and loved the outfits that models had on. Because the show was so good, our capstone ended successfully. It was a blast being able to work with partners/partner that have the same goals that I have. Due to this we were able to collaborate and put on a great production.

In this picture a few of our male models were walking to South Street along with me so we can go thrift shopping. The clothing that was used in the 70’s and 90’s scenes were clothes that I went out and bought from thrift stores in the area.

This was the 90's scene styled and designed by Me. This picture basically is the final turnout and look that the models had for the 90's decade, I tried my best to try and mimic the fashion of the 90's and apply that to the models.

Rebecca comes home from a long day in New York City, hanging out with friends and going on adventures. She looks around her Philadelphia apartment and sighs.

She takes in the views from her two wide windows that face Philadelphia's center city. She swallows, thinking about her life decisions. Her friends are thinking about moving to New York City, and they want her to go. She wants to, but Philadelphia is her home. She’s lived here all of her life.

She opens a window for fresh air, which will hopefully help clear her mind. She looks at the little elephant charm her friend gave her that sits on the chair under the television. She sits on her couch, looking at a plant and computer that her best friend gave her. Her best friends leaving, too. They're moving early next week, and she needs to make her decision.

Relaxing in her living room on the carpet she got when she went to Philadelphia. Its a pretty hot day in Florida. She wants to sit on the chair that she painted herself and open the window but its too hot and she does not feel like moving. In the corner you can see the plant her mom got her and a phone on the desk.

Physical Representation
Physical Representation
For my senior project, I decided to design and write a book of poetry. For as long as I can remember it has been my passion and I could even say an extension of who I am. I decided to make this my capstone because I have had so many poems that I haven’t shared or I never had the chance to finish. As I began collecting the many things I had written I saw just how far I’d came mentally and emotionally. This goes for both my writing and my experiences in life.
As I completed this project, I was overwhelmingly happy with my finished product, who I was before and who I am now after I have written it.

I am very excited to share my Capstone with the world!

SKB's Room

Shneider Kerry Bouillon woke up at 6:49 when he heard the door ring. He quickly ran to it and bring this special package inside his room. Shneider turned on the light He had nothing to open the package with so he was going to use his clock which was unusually sharp at the bottom, but his mom called him to come eat breakfast. He looks up at his poster with his initials on it, then ran downstairs because it was his favorite breakfast, leaving the light on.

Q4 Media and Design Presentation

Slide 1:

Slide 2: For Quarter 1, we had to create a website to display our resumé, featured projects and contact information. It was designated for colleges and possible jobs to make it.

Slide 3: The overall vision for my website was to just create something visually appealing and calming. I didn’t want the website to be cramped or extremely bright colors. I just wanted it to be peaceful and simple.

Slide 4: This was successful because I just believe it did that. It looks calming because of the light blues and the images of the sky that I have taken with my phone. Nothing is cluttered and everything is easy to read.

Slide 5: For Quarter 2, I choose the image editing project. The reason why I chose this project is because I believe that image editing was an interesting topic and I was always messing with digital art from time to time.

Slide 6: The overall vision was for there suppose to be a message for true beauty for oneself. I wanted someone to see how I portrayed or most so viewed beauty in my eyes.

Slide 7: I think this project was successful, if not my most successful project that I did. The reason why is because I just believe that everything came well together with the images that I used and I just loved the end result.

Slide 8: For Quarter 3, I chose the video editing project because I wanted to try making a video based on time lapse with what artists have done.

Slide 9: The overall vision for this project was to make everything seem comfortable and almost easy going. With videos like this, you want it to be simple with very little transitions so they focus on the art.

Slide 10: I think this project was okay because I believe that I could have done better, but by the time I wanna to start over, it was too late. I would want to start this over completely too.

Slide 11: I chose to revise the Quarter 3 project. The only thing I wanted to change was a video in the project because I thought something else would look better.

Slide 12: I chose this project because I honestly thought this was the easiest thing to change compared to the others. I had to think about something to draw for the new image and then I recorded myself doing it.

Slide 13: However, with the new video that I wanted to use, it made the video shorter. I wanted to have it to be longer than two minutes, not less.  So in all honest it just looks the same.

Slide 14:During this year, I think that my high point was the image editing project. The reason why is because I just really loved the outcome of the project because it was really my favorite project that I’ve done.

Slide 15:In area growth, I don’t think that I really grew in anything. I feel like I really didn’t improve that much at all. Maybe I improved a little in image editing but that’s it.

Slide 16:I could use image editing in a way to create digital for once. I could potentially make profit off of selling these art pieces for money that could benefit on the side for myself.

Slide 17:In all honesty, I thought of a project for image editing where you create an image that tells a story about yourself and the others have to guess whose it is.

Slide 18:Number one tip is to be on time for the checkpoints. If you don’t turn them in on time, your grade you gradually start to drop, so I would really stress about that to the next class.

Slide 19: Another tip would be to actually put some effort into their project because you can turn the checkpoint in on time but if your final project is trash, then don’t expect a perfect grade.

Slide 20: I honestly can’t think of another tip because I feel like the first one was the most important. I feel like that’s really the only thing that matters at this point so just follow the first tip.

Q 4 Project

  • A description of the project you chose to revise, why you chose it, and the process you went through revising it

I chose to revise my CodeHS project.I chose this project because I knew that when I was doing this project before it was incomplete. The process I followed to revise it was to do level 11 which I did not complete. To complete level 11 I had to create If/else statements. An If/else statement is to do something if the condition is true or do something else if it is false.

  • An overview of each of your project from each quarter including visuals

    • The project type

    • The overall vision and goal(s) of the project

    • Was the project successful? Why? Why not?

In my Q 1 project I created a website that includes information about me, my accomplishments, and a resume. This project was successful except for my resume because I still need to build on that. My goals were to make anyone who is reading about me learn who I am in the shortest and the most easy time possible.

For my Q2 project I went on CodeHS and learned how to code. I went through different lessons that went the the foundations of coding. My goals was to finish all lessons but, only got to lesson 10. I feel as though the project was successful because I learned a ton but wasn't because I didn’t finish all the lessons.

For my Q3 project I created a game which I had to use the foundations of coding. My goal was to create a game and show people what I did and how to play it. This project was a failure because I hit the power cord and I lost everything and had to start all over. I didn’t have enough time to redo it and my game was incomplete.

For my revision project I had to make a revision on one of my projects and I chose codeHS. My goal was to complete lesson 11. It was a success because I did complete it. I had more than enough time to complete it which helped me get it done.

  • My high point of the course was Coding. Using Codehs made it fun for me and made me interested in coding.

  • My growth is from coding. Through coding there is many challenges you will encounter but there is a way around it. I learned that if I want it bad enough I can overcome anything.

  • This helped me consider coding as a profession. It is a job demanding job. People want it and not a lot of people do it.

  • Next year I would build something with code.

  • Stay on top of your work

  • Go to class

  • Follow directions

Media and Design through the year

Q1: For the very first project of this class we created our own websites.

Q2: My quarter 2 project was CodeHs which is a programming website. It has 15 lessons that you do and within the lessons you learn how to code and make Karel do different things.

Q3: For my Q3 project I choose to do a gameplay because i figured that it would an easy project to do.   My overall vision of this project was to share something i enjoy doing in my freetime with everyone else. Overall my project was a success, a failure i had was uploading it to youtube from my game system.

Revised benchmark: For my revised benchmark i decided to edit my Q2 benchmark because 1, I really enjoyed doing it and 2, I wasn’t able to complete all the lessons and move onto the challenges.

Course Growth: Throughout this course i had a lot of ups and downs especially when i first started the class. An area that i grew in was submitting the checkpoints on time and getting work done in class. During my time in this class i personally feel as though that i really didn’t learn nothing new but a way I could use some of the skills demonstrated inside of class, outside of class is by doing a website for a personal assignment. Three tips I would give someone taking this class next year would be: submit work on time, stay focused during the class period and be on time because that will eventually affect your grade.

Project Script for Quarter #4

Included visual questions;

  • The project type

  • The overall vision and goals of the project

  • Was the project successful? Why? Why not?

Quarter # 1 Part;

  • The project type for quarter #1 was to create and design a website of your own choice using a website software

  • The overall vision of this project was to familiarize student with editing and designing a web page about them for other students to get to know them as part of the SLA community

  • Yes as you can see from this slide presentation I’ve have made great progress. Was this project successful basically this project put students computer network skills to the test to basically to see what ideas they could come up with, to display information about their interest, accomplishments, and small bio about themselves within school and out.

Quarter # 2 Part;

  • The project type for quarter #2 was to create and design a project video on a website of your own choice using a video creation website software

  • The overall vision of the project was to also familiarize yourself with a video website for editing and designing  and videos something of your choice that was reasonable to show to the SLA  community to test your video creation editing skills

  • Yes the video was great success I mean there were little up’s and down’s creating the video on the video website software because the website would freeze and shut down most times. But I made it work even though I wanted to give up and move on to the next best thing I stuck with the website and made it work.

Quarter # 3 Part;

-The project type for quarter #3 was to create and design and sketch and digital 3D model representation of a real imagined of object or living thing

- The overall vision of this project was to create 3D model image and explore an digital website software and find out how it works.Using this website could help student’s within the future to later on in life to plan for architectural or building projects for working experiences. These websites can be a good display to show their representation of what they are planning to create and present to the world.

- Yes the project was successful, as you can see from looking at the slides in presentation it shows my full progress and what I have accomplished, why was the project successful for me I just pretty much spent my time trying doing my best putting my knowledge skills and my creative skills to the test. To sketch whatever image of a 3 dimensional object I could think to make and even though I was kind of having trouble a couple of times  with the tools and website. I was still able to manage and pull through to make what I wanted even though it was not exactly  where I wanted the creation of my project object to look like.

Quarter #4 part;

  • why you chose this project and the process you went through revising it include a visual

I wanted to do my project revision from my quarter #2 video refection , my revision was focusing on fixing my on my website reflection because I wanted viewers to be able to see my reflection of my work of what I said on my website.  At first I wanted viewers to see my project reflection to my project progress through a google document link. The problem was the refection need to be visual on my website not a  displayed link that people had to copy and put it in the search link bar. So here are all the steps I went through to fixing my project reflection my website.

  • First, I have opened up my website and google document

  • Second, I went my website and went on to the project tab on my website

  • Third, I went my website and deleted the link code of my google document with my video refection of quarter #2

  • Four, I then went Inside my google document where I written my project reflection and copied all my sentences and words i’ve written down from my reflection

  • Fifth, I went back to my website and  transfer all my project refection information into a textbox on my website

  • Sixth, last but not least I republished my website with the edited changes and now you could see my project reflection underneath my project video

  • Your high point of the course when it comes to your learning include a visual

I choose my course website as a highest point of learning because it was my first time ever creating a website that I though was one of greatest success of learning. In the past I have used website’s to build and create powerpoint’s also I have used websites to create and make videos for projects. But I have never made and create one which I enjoyed doing because now I have gain a part of learning that I can now used for the future references. When it comes time for me to show off a presentation or something of my interest that I want to show and want the world to know about.

  • An area of growth for you include a visual

I choose my project revision from quater #2 as a sign of growth just to show that their was a part to one of my project’s that I did need to edit and fix up. I wanted to show this picture as part of my growth for my presentation because I wanted people to know not everything you do will be such a great success. Their will always be something that needs to rearrange and change around so people can see and clearly understand the point that you're trying to make.

  • How you have used or could use a skill or technique you learned this year outside of this class include a visual

A skill and technique that I have learned and used throughout this whole project course was this motto this motto is what kept me going. There have been times where I always second guess myself, give up on things, or faced hard non-understandable problems that have slowed from down from my path to success. But I play this motto in my head almost everyday when I get to these kinds of breaking points I just “keep moving forward”.This motto gives me hope, strength and also comfort through the good and the bad times I go through.

  • An idea you want to pitch for a project for next year's class include a visual

Next year’s project for video editing for other students make sure their are proper websites to use for video editing. Some websites can tend to freeze and stop working and shut down so next time just be on the lookout and heads up for better video editing websites for students.

  • Tip #1 for anyone taking this class include a visual

I choose this image as part of my tip visual  for the next class for the future because in order for them to succeed and get good credit for the work they complete and try hard to do.They got to  try their best and don't give up the on their work or themselves if it is hard or difficult for them to understand. The future students must know and must understand that they  just got to do what you can do and what you know how to do. It’s better to have something out of nothing at the end of the day you can just say I put forth a good effort.

  • Tip #2 for anyone taking this class include a visual

The reason I choose this image for my second visual because their will be thing’s that people might understand or may be difficult for them to figure it out whatever they are trying to do. Students must know when these difficult times appear  they need to come out, and reach out of their uncomfortable zone space and learn to ask for help from peers and teachers. Not everything is going to be understood or easy to go through their will be obstacles and problems always in the way. Students need to know they don't have to go them through alone there will always be help along the way.

  • Tip #3 for anyone taking this class include a visual

The reason I choose this tip for my last visual because students need to know to believe in themselves what they are capable of doing. Not everything is going to come easy there will be battles to go through and fight with work. But students need to know trust in themselves and need to be able to pull through it will be a risky and hard path to cross with learning sometimes. As long as student hold themselves together they can and push themselves forward they can make it.

Q4 Project Slideshow

For my quarter one project I created my own website. With this project to start off the year I was able to create my own website the proper way. The goal of this project was to familiarize myself with website editing and design that would provide a place for me to showcase the work I did this year. I believe that this project was successful. Even though it was difficult at first it turned out to be great. I learn how important color schemes are for websites. Also, what to do and not to do on a website. So in the end it was very successful!  For my quarter two project I chose the image editing project. With this project I was able to learn how to edit images to create something new. The goals of this project was to give the image a voice in a way. Also, teach yourself how to edit images on your own. I believe this project was very successful. I wind up doing 3 images rather than 1. I learned how to use a different image editing called pixlar. Now i’m a pro at it! In addition to that, I received a passing grade and great feedback about my images. So with that being said it was a successful project. I learned so much!

For my quarter three project I chose to do the video project. I decided to stick with is a Hair and Skin video. From doing this project I hoped to learn more about editing and getting better with filming. Which I did learn after all! Before making my video I was gonna use Wevideo. But, since I was using an IPhone 6s plus to film my videos I used IMovie. I have never used IMovie before and I love it I picked it up really quick. I learned things like changing the colors of my video like making them brighter and cleaning the video a little more. The successes that I had was putting this video together at the last minute. The major failure that I had was the same as always is procrastination. I overcame my failure by pushing myself to do it. Getting my interim reports really pushed me t o this also knowing that grade close very soon helped as well. I learned that I procrastinate way too much. I always wait to the last minute. This happens with every project. I revised this image in my project because I thought that this image need more and it was too dull. So I sharpened and smoothed it out and changed the radius.

I think my high point of this course is the project statements because I was able to see where I need to focus and change throughout the course. Also, giving myself constructive criticism and explaining to other what i struggled with. In addition, readings other peer review about mines and gaining from their feedback. My growth throughout this whole course is video editing. It helped me so much! I knew a little about video editing from wevideo but i learned more by pushing my luck with imovie. I used my video editing skill to teach myself how to use Final Cut Pro X. Which can go a long way for me when I start my YouTube Channel. One project that I think that would help a lot of student’s next year is, learn how to use FInal Cut Pro X and teach how to use it next year. Tip 1 would be DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Tip 2 is Stay on top of checkpoints. Tip 3 is have fun and try your best.

Media and Design Ignite Presentation

Slide 1:Hello, my name is Autumn Richardson. I am in the eleventh grade at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber.  For my ignite presentation I will be talking about my Media and Design projects and some changes made to them. First stop will be my website.

Slide 2:For my website I decided to talk about my view of Philadelphia. I have never created a website before so this was definitely a first. The goal was to make an efficient website that included a project page, about me page, a resume page, and a welcome page. For my welcome page I included a brief description of what you would see if you visited my website.

Slide 3:Like I have said in the beginning the welcome page is one of the changes I have made in this project.  At first the welcome page was pretty dull and mediocre. I tried to use a live background but it was delayed and when the text moved and background moved it was too much and confusing.

Slide 4: So this project was not really successful because my goal was to make a better website that was more colorful and lively. That worked and attracted attention to those that visited my page. I wanted the website to look legit. Although I struggled with project one I did better with project 2.

Slide 5: This was my Quarter 2 project, this was the final project but I can reassure you that it didn’t look like that at first. It took much time to achieve this.

Slide 5:For quarter 2 the project I did was Graphic Design. The goal was to create a road sign that represents either a real or fictional situation or direction(s). Your sign should not contain words. Use images and symbols to convey your message.

Slide 6: Now, I had many complications with this project because at first I was using pixlr. Pixlr and I don’t get along. It would delete my work after I saved it, the over tools just sucked in general and this was my outcome using it. A hot mess, I couldn’t submit this and feel proud of it so I decided to use another website that could help me make a better picture while getting my point across.

Slide 7: This is a before and after as you can see using pixlr just really sucked so after using another webiste it got better and I submitted good work, or at least good to me.

Slide 8: The video can be a powerful messenger and a quick way to share a laugh, an idea or make a statement. The video was to be 1 to 3 minutes and follow the copyright laws.

Slide 9: At first I was confused I didn’t know what to do the video on. I like to draw, but I didn’t want to do that. I like to dance, but I didn’t want to do that either. I was pretty much lost up to the second checkpoint with no idea to create a video.

Slide 10: One day before class at lunchtime I was thinking what could I do because checkpoint three was due today. Then I had this idea what if I could do a news segment and it would be better if I worked with a partner. The video came out ok, but since it was so late and we started so late the quality wasn’t that good. I decided to edit the video over and make it better.

Slide 11: The picture you see before you is the a revision of the Website Project. The welcome page is one of the changes I have made in this project.  At first the welcome page was pretty dull and mediocre. I tried to use a live background but it was delayed and when the text moved and background moved it was too much and confusing.

Slide 12: I decided to make a new menu, change the background, changed the description, and color of font so that it could be more appealing to someone that visited my website. I chose to do this project over because I didn’t like the finished product. I also added another page to the website. This page is about the Video Project I did in Quarter 3.

Slide 13: So this is the before and after and there is an obvious change like I had explained previously. I feel more proud of this finished project because it looks more appealing than the last one. Also I corrected the things that brought down my grade.

Slide 14: My highpoint of the Media and Design class was creating a Graphic Design because in that project I reflected learned from my mistakes and fixed them. I received help from my peers that helped me make a better project and actually enjoyed making it.

Slide 15: An area of growth from the Media and Design class was making the video. I know which is ridiculous because in SLA we make videos for every class, but I struggled making the video and I still don’t know how to use the tools, but I did my best I wish I could have applied myself more and had the checkpoints turned in on time.

Slide 16: A skill or technique you learned this year that I could use outside of this class was being confident in what you present because if you’re not confident in what you have others won’t see it as good. Also I never knew how to make a website so if I ever have a business or some type of organization I can advertise it by making a website.

Slide 17: A project that you could have next year could be making a business and successfully advertising it, which may include graphic design, so like a sign, a website to advertise that business or item, and use the 3D printer to make a prototype of the item you will be selling.

Slide 18:Tip one stay on time, for class, for the checkpoint, and for the project. This is for all classes. Time management is extremely important.

Slide 19: Tip two think outside the box don’t trap yourself in anything the more you use your imagination the better the project will come out. Don’t limit yourself to what you're given, if you have the opportunity to do better do better.

Slide 20: Tip three remember what you are taught because you might have to use these tools later in life. Don’t forget what you learned in this class because something might be beneficial in the future, whether it was a project, a comment someone made, or even life lessons learned you learned in the class.

Reflection Document

Overview of Quarter 1 Project

The project type for the first quarter project was a website. The vision of this project was to show basic information about my life. This included personal things about me, projects I have completed in or out of school, and a resume that outlined anything I didn’t explain in previous website pages. The goal was to essentially give a portfolio of myself to the class so that they could learn a bit about my lifestyle and what I have accomplished. Some things about me are that I am involved in rowing, Bible Quiz, and Royal Rangers, a program I am involved with at my church. I do believe the project was successful because although it doesn’t tell everything about me, I did do a good job in highlighting some of the important things about me.

Overview of Quarter 2 Project

The project type for the second quarter was Computer Science. I had to code a specific program and do a narrative video while completing the final program. The goal of the project was to show me how to use certain functions and commands within the Karel program. This taught me a bit more about coding and gave me an understanding of how people program. I do believe the project was successful because I learned how to code and make a program do what I want it to do. It was also successful because I can use this skill outside of class if I want to make a game or build more complex things like computers or other technology.

Overview of Quarter 3 Project

The project type for the third and last project that I chose was the Image Editing Project. The vision of this project was to show that there are angels and demons in life. The person in the middle of the image represents all of humanity, and the angels represent all things good, and the demons, all things bad. Both the angels and the demons should motivate you. You should want to get as far from the demons as possible, and closer to the angels. I do believe the project was successful because the image shows my vision and fulfills my goals. I realized as I was doing the project that my demons were too dark. So, I changed the opacity to make them more transparent to look more ghostly. I also thought I was successful in making the angels look more a part of the image instead of add-ons.

Written Reflection of the Revised Project

For this image, all I did was blend in the lighting of the person running with the background. Previously, I had made another layer of the person, and it didn’t flow with the background. Another thing I did was adjust the brightness of the background so that the demons would blend in better as well. For the angels, I moved them around slightly and reoriented them so that they were easier to look at as part of the image as a whole. I also made the decision to make the angels slightly darker so that they wouldn’t stand out as much and would be a part of the message of the image.

A high point during this year when it comes to my learning was the Computer Science Project, and me learning how to code. The reason for this is because I had never coded before, and I really enjoyed doing it.

An area of growth for me was definitely working on the Image Editing Project. The reason for this is because although I had a goal in mind, and knew in general how to get there, I had to go through a lot of trial and error to get there. Shoutout to Ms. Hertz for helping me through my questions.

I could use coding to create a game or a program in college or beyond. I could also use image editing beyond high school if I wanted to merge two or more images together or make an image look prettier for advertisement.

An idea for next could be something built with legos. I don’t know what that object would be, but this is just an idea that Ms. Hertz could think through further.

Aliya's Media and Design Project

Q1  project - My overall vision of my project was to make a site to inform people about me. My overall vision of my project was to have pictures to show off who I am and that went along with the pictures.   I feel the website was successful.  I think I had good pictures to represent what I had to say.

Q2 project -  Image editing.  For my quarter two project I took a picture I drew and changed it around.  I wanted to make the pictures pop more than it did before to have a cooler effect when your looking at it.  If I had to change it I think I would be more organized with making it.  I had another idea before but changed it as I was struggling with it.  I would ask for more help this time.

Q3 project - 3D modeling.  I used to use it at my old school and wanted to try it again.  I made insects out of it and wa going to print it out and give it to my sister as a gift.  If I had a chance to do this again I would do a much more detailed thing as I like exploring new forms of art.  I was not working to my potential I feel, but it was fun to make.

Revised projects

For my website I felt like nothing needed to be edited.  I feel like everything that I wanted to add got put into the project.

For image editing I did not add any revisions.  In the future I would choose a different picture to edit and make it more unique to myself.

For 3D modeling I did revise the project.  I felt like I didn’t add enough so I added more to the design.  I added her name, and a few more bugs to the image.

My high point of this course

My highpoint of this course was learning new techniques and skills I did not know about before.  Before the class I did not know about making my own website and I have never tried image editing.  The one thing I have done before is use tinkercad for 3D modeling, I did the project again because it has been a while since I did it.

An area of growth

I feel an area of growth for me would be learning more about image editing.  The website I used confused me a bit so I didn’t add/change as much about the pic that I wanted.

A skill I used outside of class

I used the skills I used from using Wix to make my biochem project this year.  It was really helpful to have already done it before and it was really fun.

An idea I want to pitch for next year’s class

I want to see more creative film projects.

Q4 FINAL PROJECT IGNITE PRESENTATION

Quarter 1 project type/ The overall vision and goals) of the project

  • The purpose of this project was to create a website that showcases who I am. The project is supposed to include  3 pages. The pages you have to have on the website is an about me page. A page with your resume and a page project to show what you  completed inside or outside of school. For the process of this project we had to complete certain checkpoints throughout the quarter to check on what we have completed so far on the project. My overall vision for the project was to create a website that was simple and intriguing for people to look at. Also to make the website look somewhat professional for colleges to look at so they can learn about who I am.

Quarter 2 project type/ The overall vision and goals) of the project
  • For my Q2 benchmark I chose to do a graphic design project. For this project you had to create a road sign that represents a situation that is real or fictional. The road sign should have words on it the message your are trying to convey has to be told through the image. The message I had  for my road sign is ‘’Thinking outside the box’’. My overall vision for this project was to make a caution sign for cars to warn them that pedestrians they are walking without the use of words.

Quarter 3 project type/ The overall vision and goals) of the project

  • For my project for quarter 3 I decided to do a video project. I couldn’t complete this video without my partner Ivan Gutierrez. For our video project we decided to do a comedy video on asking people random people in our school videos. The goal for the video project was to create a video that can be a powerful messenger and a quick way to share a laugh, an idea or make a statement. In order to complete our video project me and my partner Ivana had to first come up with a concept for a video that we would both enjoy doing. To complete this video we used a video editor called wevideo. It was hard for us to come up with a video Idea at first until we saw some videos on YouTube about riddles. When watching the videos we thought it was a great Idea for a video because the purpose of a riddle.

Media and Design Ignite Presentat

Anaya Thomas-Gomez

  • Slide One: My name is Anaya and I will presenting my projects for my media and design class. In this class I create different things using different media tools. The projects I did this quarter was I first created a website. After I created the website I used the 3D printer and created a name tag. The last project I did was I made a road sign.

  • Slide Two: This is my webiste that I made in the beginning of the school year. These are screenshots of the main page of the website and the all about me page.

  • Slide Three: For the first quarter I had to make a website. The website had to be about me. In this website I added things such as an “about me” page and a “project” page. The goal of this project was to make a website that we could use as a portfolio.

  • Slide Four: During the process of this project I found that it was quite successful. I found it successful because I didn’t really run into any problems when creating the website. Also I used my class time wisely so anything I had a problem with I could communicate with my peers and teacher for help.

  • Slide Five: These are photos of what I created on the 3D printer. The first image is a screenshot from the online software I used which was tinkercad. The second image is what I printed from the 3D printer.

  • Slide Six: For this project, my main goal was to learn how to use the 3D printer. During the process I found out that the 3D printer is easy but the difficult part was creating the image on the online software. Since I was new to 3D imaging I decided to make something simple, I made a keychain.

  • Slide Seven: This project ended up being successful. My project was successful because I followed all of the checkpoints. In the beginning of the project the checkpoints was to watch tutorials and practice them. This helped a lot.

  • Slide Eight: This is an image that I created using the website pixlr.com.

  • Slide Nine: For this project I was to make a road sign. I had to use  a graphic design browser. For my project I wanted my a sign that symbolized watching your mouth since a lot of people in our generation don’t do this.

  • Slide Ten: This project ended not being successful in my eyes. I say this because it ended up not looking like a road sign and a poster instead. Also my project wasn’t visually appealing. Although I worked hard on this project the website that I chose to use wasn’t the easiest and didn’t have a lot of options.

  • Slide Eleven: For my revisions I took out the downloaded documents and put in the text entry. I also added questions to my about me page that described me. Along with this I added a slide show for the project that included 1 or more pictures.

  • Slide Twelve: I chose this project because this project is basically an online portfolio and I thought it was important to edit it. I chose to do the slide show because when I first did this project it was difficult to do so since I had more time I did it.

  • Slide Thirteen: This is what it looked like after I made my revisions.

  • Slide Fourteen:  When I started this class I was unsure on what to expected. I just wanted to know what exactly media and design was and I assumed it would help my technology skills.

  • Slide Fifteen: An area where I showed growth was being able to follow directions. I say this because with most of the projects that I have done this quarter I was unfamiliar with and was able to do this projects with the specific directions from the checkpoint.

  • Slide Sixteen: A skill that I used was tinkercad. In ninth grade I used tinkercad in one of my mini courses to build a desk. I was still unfamiliar with the tool so the project I did this year helped me with that tool.

  • Slide Seventeen: An idea I want to do is the coding project. I want to try this project because coding is something you can use a lot, we live in a pretty advanced world.

  • Slide Eighteen: A tip for someone who is taking this class is to not procrastinate. Procrastination will hold you back.

  • Slide Nineteen: Another tip is to follow directions. Directions are pretty clear and will help you.

Slide Twenty: My last tip is to come to class on time and to communicate if you are absent. Missing class without communication will hurt your grade and leave you with a lot of catching up to do.
