Reproductive Healthcare w/ L.A.D. News!

In my group’s video, w/ Amin and Lamont, we decided to interview my Uncle who was the Vice President of Operations at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabus Health System. In our interview, we go over the importance of Planned Parenthood, the importance of it being available, and the importance of who is controlling it, plus more.

I chose this topic because I was pulled into it after being late to class, but agreed to it because I felt that the injustice of repealing Planned Parenthood just seemed much too unrealistically evil at the time when I heard about it. It pulled a heartstring I didn’t know was there.

In the project, I’m pretty sure I contributed a good one-third of a pie, especially towards the end. I know that I helped out with the first checkpoint, didn’t do the questions in checkpoint two, but lastly did edit the video at the end and conduct the interview, which was pretty heavy on its own. In doing things differently, I could’ve just been more responsible in my timing in getting everything done.

  1. The factors that affect public health are the politicians that sell it and the local hospitals and offices that inform people of the best health options and spread their info to news stations to inform the public, furthermore.

  2. Economy, being money and trade, influences how much people are willing to invest in their health so long as it doesn’t make them go broke, politics influence the public’s will with arguments that only provide money from being heard but not any actual helpful effects for the people affected by them, and half of society just tries to wrap their finger around the problem and promote solutions to these problems that help those affected by said problems for the low cost of free thought and better health rather than money that doesn’t even go to them in the long run.

  3. The process of research is strenuous to get into and it takes a very long time before you may reach any executive anywhere for help. It almost felt unheard of in my group’s research.

  4. One profession pertaining to public health in anatomy and physiology would be, Vice President of Operations inside a hospital. Others would be Pharmacists, Dental Hygienists, Chiropractors, R.N.’s, Biomedical Laser Technicians, Neurophysiological Technologists… etc.

The video will be up soon, it’s just processing.

Alcohol Abuse & Public Health

Overall, I enjoyed this project however the process was very stressful. Starting with the interview, it took a while for people to get back to us because they were so busy. It took us a few weeks until we were finally able to get the interview. When we did, we were able to ask Dr. Katherine Williams all the questions we had a phone interview which was over a half hour long. After finally getting our interview we then worked on filming other clips for our final piece. That was moving very smoothly until we had some problems with getting the footage off the cameras. From this project though we did learn a lot about how alcohol abuse in one person can impact many others.

6/6/17                               Media & Design

In my 1st project I did Intro to Computer Science because it seemed very easy when I came to this class. During the Intro to Computer I met a dog, a dog name Karel and I helped her move around and go place to place. During it I completed every single step EXCEPT number 9 that was more of a difficult one but I enjoyed doing every step.

I design my project as a 3 football teens trying to make it to the NFL as their main focus and goal. If I was too put this in the hands of a sports commentator it might make it big stream because of the details. We all are jumping for the money trying to make it to the NFL as a primary job and we all are going at it together. It took me nearly two weeks to complete this project since it was hard to use Pixlr tools. By the time I got it all figured out it was almost time to turn in the project. Throughout this project I realized I have to take my time and be patient because I got frustrated every time something doesn't go my way or look the way I want it to be. I didn't want to continue to finish the project because the project wasn't how I like it and it was trash in my eyes. But I overcame it and finished it in a good way. For someone attempting this project you can use Pixlr it's a great source but it's a little complicated.

Although, using Pixlr helped me get my message across.By placing the draft background and the money over the football, I was able to show people that I wanted to make it to the draft. I used the football background with the money over the football I grabbed people's attention so they can know that I want to play in the NFL. This project inspired me to continue to imagine editing. This is something I will show my kids when I get older.

Media & Design Ignite Presentation

For my Media and Design final project I had to put all of the projects I did in my class and put them in a slideshow to present to the class, but the slides will only be there for a few seconds at a time until the auto change. As part of this project, I had to write a reflection for each project. My reflection is as followed:

For the first project in Media and Design class, I had to create a website that has a portfolio about me along with other things about me. The goal of the project was that the website would be a portfolio so when we could send this to colleges we are applying to and they can learn a little about us. My own personal goal, however, was to have a place where I could have some memories and remember. I believe that the project was very successful. I still update the website even though I’m not getting a grade for it anymore. The website gave me a place to look back at and be proud of. I have my own website that I made myself! It’s wonderful. I love how I set it up and the pictures I used.
For the second project in Media and Design class, I had to make a video that would express myself. The goal of the project was that when someone watched the video they would learn something and take away a message from it. I believe the project was not very successful, it could definitely have gone better. During this project, I kind of rushed it. I also did not take a lot of time, at the beginning of the project, to make sure YouTube Editor was the best software to use.
For my third project in Media and Design class, I had to photoshop two images together to make a new picture. The goal of the project was to learn how to edit pictures and to use pictures to convey a message, a picture is worth a thousand words after all. I believe this project was successful but could have definitely been better. I was able to edit the two pictures together, but making it look real was very hard. When I cut pictures out there was still some edges which made it look boxy.
The project I have decided to revise was my website project. On my website, I did
not have much on there about me and I felt like that was wrong. So I choose this
project to edit for two reasons. The first reason is that I want people who come on
my website to know who I am. The second reason is that when I come back to this
website in the future I will remember some things I may forget later on. I added two
paragraphs to me About Me page. I wrote about how I’m a procrastinator and about
my favourite place.
A high point of this class was making my very own website. The website, TBExtraorinary, is the best thing I did in this class and I am very proud of it. I think it looks amazing and it’s so cool to have something up that everyone can see. An area of growth for me during this project was making this slide. Being able to put everything together, have it organised, and see everything I did in one place is a really cool thing to me.  I used the skills I have learned in this class outside of class during my Spanish Project. For my Spanish project, I was in charge of making a website and I was able to make a pretty nice looking website using the skills I learned in this class. An idea I have for next year’s class is more presentations maybe? I myself like to talk and presenting lets me do that. But also, presentations allows people to share the work they did with everyone else in the class. Not everyone has to present, just people that would like to.
Three tips I have for anyone taking this class:
This class is an easy A if you just do the work. Since it’s in checkpoints it’s really easy to keep track of everything, even if you miss a class. This class is very easy, just do the work.
If by chance you miss a class and you find it a little hard to catch up, just submit whatever you have. A 5/10 is better than a plain 0/10. Ms Hertz is very understanding so if you just talk to her or send her an Email I’m sure you could figure something out.
Finally, just have fun. This class is a very fun, relaxed, and chill class. If you just stay on top of everything you can have ten minutes maybe just doing whatever you want, whether its other classwork or watching videos.

“Kev Da Barber”  (Barber name)

How does someone's haircut relate to their identity? In an article from Today’s News some Hair Experts says your hair tells a lot about who you are.  The article stated that Straight hair is more conservative and Curly hair was more casual. Everyone’s hair style means different things. A person may be wearing a certain hair style for one  reason, and I’m wearing my hair style like the way it is for my own reasons. Everyone hairs tells a story about who you are and where you come from.  Everyone hair is able to do different things as some other hair textures may not allow you to do.  You have may have spikey, curly, puffy, nappy, straight, short, long hair, etc but it’s all about having your own style and wearing what makes you the most comfortable.

Everyone should know the style they like their hair to be. A lot of people decide to wear their hair to fit in with the trends that's out right now.  That never was the case for me. I always was the kid that wanted to be different. I remember being the only kid in elementary school to have a fade with a part on the side. My hair cuts defined who I was growing up, I was the kid that wanted to be different. Everyone’s should sense a more confident self when you get your haircut or hair done.  Different Hair textures allow for you to wear different hairstyles because they don't always go good with each other. It would be extremely difficult for a person with spiky straight hair to try to get a fly wavy hair pattern. All hair is different and you have decide how to wear your hair that best fits YOU!

Heart Disease and Stroke PSA

My topic for the project was Heart Disease and Stroke. We had to make a video and our video included and interview, skit, and facts. We didn't get to choose the topic we wanted we had to pick out  of a container and whatever we pulled out is what our topic was and we got Heart Disease and Stroke.

In the group I helped with checkpoints. I came up with some the interview questions. I help record the video. I also helped with the research and facts during this project. I think we could have communicated a little more throughout the project but I am content with the final submission

Although I am glad it is over I learned new things especially from Jennifer which was the person we interviewed. I am glad we came together and got the job done.

Motor Vehicle injury

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUgvNTRNg-Q
-Our video is about motor vehicle accidents, in the video, we covered the statistics behind those crashes, the aftermath of those crashes and how it is a public health issue. Teenagers like ourselves are one of the most affected demographic due to motor vehicle accidents. This topic is very important because it's something that is ongoing and often not looked upon. This video will be a catalyst for this topic to be taken into consideration.
-We worked in a group of 3 people, including myself. I was responsible for doing the interview with Mr. Jean Mitchell because I am the one who referred him for the position. I was also responsible for the opening of the PSA. Those were my two major assignments in the group, besides that, I work along with my group members in other components to complete the project.
- I think the interview was well done, the questions were meaningful and Mr.Jean Mitchell answered them well and stayed on topic. I think the video could be better, could have been if we had pictures but we don't because my group members didn't agree with that idea.
-The most meaningful part of completing this project happened during the interview.  Besides all the research we did on statistics behind motor vehicle accidents, the interview provided us with a more human interaction and I valued that.

Heart Disease & Stroke

With doing this project my partner and I chose to do heart disease and strokes because we felt that it was in the top 5 of the leading causes of death which is terrible. With this project, I have learned a lot and we were able to network with people from organizations and receive even more information. In this group, I contributed lots if information and I also contributed both of the interviews. Lastly, I contributed by editing the video. I felt like I had a huge part in the project. The most meaningful part of the experience of creating this PSA was putting together all of the bits and pieces of information together into one video.
Public health is a big issue pertaining to heart disease and strokes. Heart disease is a high rating of the cause of death in African Americans. It is almost number one in being the highest cause of death in the United States.
The economy, politics, and society also plays a big role in the healthcare system such as networking and raising money to find different research programs and free clinics for communities. Money wise the process of research id being affected because they can't get what they need if there is no money and they can't do tests or research if they don't have candidates so I say people also affect the process of research.

    Reproductive Health Care

For this project, my group members and I made a PSA on reproductive health care. Based on this project the most meaningful information we found in each of the interviews within the video. Those information entails background on Planned Parenthood and also what reproductive health. The video even mentions that reproductive health care people background from all socioeconomic statuses. I also did the research, interviewing and helping my group member to complete the video editing. We looking for programs like Planned Parenthood that support, educate, and provide services. In my opinion, I think if government stopping Planned Parenthood that will risk millions of people who depend on it. We interviewed a principal at a high school a nurse, and counselor. The most meaningful part of the project was the anticipation of completing the project and turning it in soon. my group members and I communicate each other and achieved our goal and everyone did their part on this project.

Quarter 4 Benchmark: Motor Vehicle Injuries

The overall topic of our video was Motor Vehicle Injures and why it is a public health issue. Our country is a world leader in motor vehicle crashes and injuries simply for the fact that people don’t typically wear their seatbelts. This is what causes tragedies and casualties. I contributed to the group by getting the majority of our sources back in Checkpoint 1. What I’ve done well, in my opinion, was finding our background research and contributing ideas for our PSA video. What could’ve been done differently was the communication between my group members and I. Some didn’t know what we were doing on certain checkpoints and some were lost but overall, we all pitched in making our PSA video. My group member, Anaiah, was in charge of editing since she’s experienced. The most meaningful part of the experience of making the PSA was gathering information and now knowing that statistics of M.V.I. that happen in the U.S.

Factors that affect public health is social support, income, race, gender, heredity/genetics, age, education/literacy, etc. The economy plays a part in public health by health programs receiving funding to help people in the community and to fund research for diseases. Politics play a part by legislative policies setting down the ground rules for insurance companies and health facilities to help patients the best they can and have their interests at heart so that we could have a healthy society. Society plays a part by keeping the health facilities in business to help keep them healthy and safe. Without a community, hospitals and clinics would have no patients. Society helps keep the facilities up and running so that everyone can be safe.

    (Jose Colon) Reproductive Health

    Reflection:
This video contains information regarding reproductive health and also what it means to high school seniors and other professionals, such as Christopher Johnson and Adrienne Williams. The most notable information can be found in each of the three interviews within the video. This information entails background on Planned Parenthood and also what reproductive health looks like today, the video even mentions that good reproductive health care incorporates people from all socioeconomic statuses. I myself contributed to the research, video editing, and interviewing. I would say my group and I did well with the interviewing process and finding people who all individually could contribute different points on reproductive health. The most meaningful part about creating this video to me was gathering information regarding what good reproductive Health Care looks like in today's world.

Heart Diseases and Strokes By: Bianca Oglesby

For this project, I wasn’t able to pick my own topic. The topic of Heart Disease and Stroke was not my choice on a topic for my benchmark. When I did this project the topic was not what I wanted to do. It was difficult to do this project because I had other topics in mind that I had a connection to. I wanted to do a different topic that I could relate to, but we had to reach into a bag and pick my topic.

When doing this project I put effort and work into it. I helped with the checkpoints. I helped with the interview and I was able to help a lot with the editing of the video. My whole group help with certain parts of the components. We have our strength and weakness, but we were all able to help with some part of the benchmark.

The most meaningful part of the project was the anticipation of completing the project and turning it in soon. I’m happy that it is over. One other part of this project that was important was that interview we did. We received a lot of information from her about heart disease and strokes. She was very helpful to the topic.

Factors that affect the public health care can come done to many things. It depends on the money you make, the access you have to a clinic, and what policies that are put in place for your economic status. All of those things can effect rather or not you have healthcare or how you get treated. Sometimes those things can stop you from getting treatment. If there is not money for the disease you have then there can’t be any research done to help you. You don’t only have to be a doctor to be in the public health. You can be a lawyer or someone who studies public health, epidemiology.

    Alcohol Harms

The topic of alcohol harms was something that I can really relate to because I am about to go to college. Going to college presents many temptations including alcohol. I felt it was important to educate myself as well as my peers about the harms alcohol presents. In this video, we featured an interview with Michelle Heyward. Ms. Heyward is the director of the drug-free coalitions of Philadelphia. She gave us some insightful information about the harms of alcohol.

I contributed to this video by being the one who set up the interview and wrote out the interview questions. I was also featured in the actual video asking the questions. I think that I did a good job of asking insightful questions for our speaker that would make the video interesting. The most meaningful part of the PSA was making the message relatable to Philadelphia.

Throughout this PSA we learned about factors that affect public health. These factors include income, location, education and literacy, and the support of the government. We also learned how the economy, politics, and society play a big role in the healthcare system. Ms. Heyward talked to us about the 12 Sectors that play a role in the drug free coalitions. These 12 sectors all come together to play a big role in the prevention of drug and alcohol use. We featured those 12 sectors in our PSA.

Quarter 4 Benchmark: Motor Vehicle Injury

For our last benchmark in Anatomy and Physiology, my group members and I decided to talking motor vehicle injuries, and how it is a public health issue. I believe strongly in this topic as my mother drives for a living (she is a trolley operator under SEPTA) and she often tells me about accidents she's seen/been in and how recklessly some people drive in Philadelphia.
For the checkpoints, all the work was shared equally, but when it came to complete the PSA, I was in charge of editing the video and making it informative and interesting. I believe that I achieved what my goal was for the PSA, but what I could of done better is communication with my group mates. We would often be left in the dark with each other and I know that I can take some blame in this.
I feel that the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA is creating the message to send to our fellow peers of being careful. A lot of people our age are being hurt, and our country is a world leader, spending thousands of dollars because of motor vehicle injury. Getting this information out there and giving people a gentle reminder to be careful is the best thing.

Reproductive Health Care - Tsion Tuhco

My group members and I made an informative PSA on reproductive health care and what it means and also programs like Planned Parenthood that support, educate, and provide services for individuals about reproductive health, ranging from sex education to abortion. We specifically looked into programs like Planned Parenthood and their purpose. Because of our recent presidential nominee, the Republican party wants to stop the federal funding to Planned Parenthood because they offer abortion services. Stopping Planned Parenthood puts millions of people who depend on it at risk and our goal is to educate that to others. In order to achieve this goal, we interviewed a nurse, a counselor, and a principal at a high school. My job was to interview, research the political aspect of Planned Parenthood, and help to edit the video. Overall, my group members and I achieved our goal and everyone did their part on this project.

    Heart Disease and Stroke PSA

My video includes an interview, a skit and some portions of the video are facts that relate to interview. The skit was chosen because it gave our video something that wasn’t just straight facts. We chose to put the facts in the video because they related to the topics that our interview person brung up. We did not choose this topic it was given to us.

In the group I found the person to interview made contact with her. I set up the interview. I helped design questions and the order in which we asked them. I also helped to gather some facts. I contributed well to my group. I could have done better with communication with my group members. The thing that really made proud about this project is how it came full circle. We asked questions that we could relate back to our lives. The best thing about the PSA was how it was relatable. So many things go into public health, such as, race, identity, geography, politics and sociology.

" Blast from the Past " Fashion Show

    Capstone Project

    Ms. Lawson

“ Blast From The Past “ was a fashion show that I and two others conducted together as our capstone project. Our fashion show took place in the auditorium of SLA @ Beeber. The name of the show is called “ Blast From The Past “ because all of our different scenes from the show was decades. Our show featured the 70’s, 90’s, Present , and Afrocentric scenes.

Each scene was designated to either me or one of my partners. At first when we decided to have a fashion show as our capstone, we were going to bring in designers around Philly and present their clothes. However, after time passed we realized that we wouldn’t be doing any work. We changed our initial idea and plan for our capstone. We still were doing a Fashion show, but this time we were the designers.  Each scene was given to either me or my partners, and individually we styled the clothes that the models wore to replicate the decades. Having the idea in tact was just the first task of many in order for our Capstone Project to be a success. The process of our Capstone was not an easy one, but it was a fun one. Through this Fashion Show students from 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade were able to connect and bond. Students became more comfortable with each other and was allowed to feel like themselves no matter how silly they each felt about the clothes.

This project has taught me a lot when it comes to my future life. I learned that if you want to put on a production, you must have an equipped team. This was one of the biggest things I learned working on my Capstone this year. Being able to learn this now is extremely influential to my future aspirations. Also, I learned a lot about the different fashion trends and fabrics that went with each decade. With this I was able to see what changed through the years, and/or what trend stayed. The Blast From The Past show had a great outcome,  many enjoyed and loved the outfits that models had on. Because the show was so good, our capstone ended successfully. It was a blast being able to work with partners/partner that have the same goals that I have. Due to this we were able to collaborate and put on a great production.

In this picture a few of our male models were walking to South Street along with me so we can go thrift shopping. The clothing that was used in the 70’s and 90’s scenes were clothes that I went out and bought from thrift stores in the area.

This was the 90's scene styled and designed by Me. This picture basically is the final turnout and look that the models had for the 90's decade, I tried my best to try and mimic the fashion of the 90's and apply that to the models.

Rebecca comes home from a long day in New York City, hanging out with friends and going on adventures. She looks around her Philadelphia apartment and sighs.

She takes in the views from her two wide windows that face Philadelphia's center city. She swallows, thinking about her life decisions. Her friends are thinking about moving to New York City, and they want her to go. She wants to, but Philadelphia is her home. She’s lived here all of her life.

She opens a window for fresh air, which will hopefully help clear her mind. She looks at the little elephant charm her friend gave her that sits on the chair under the television. She sits on her couch, looking at a plant and computer that her best friend gave her. Her best friends leaving, too. They're moving early next week, and she needs to make her decision.

    Physical Representation
    Physical Representation
For my senior project, I decided to design and write a book of poetry. For as long as I can remember it has been my passion and I could even say an extension of who I am. I decided to make this my capstone because I have had so many poems that I haven’t shared or I never had the chance to finish. As I began collecting the many things I had written I saw just how far I’d came mentally and emotionally. This goes for both my writing and my experiences in life.
As I completed this project, I was overwhelmingly happy with my finished product, who I was before and who I am now after I have written it.

I am very excited to share my Capstone with the world!

Shneider Kerry Bouillon woke up at 6:49 when he heard the door ring. He quickly ran to it and bring this special package inside his room. Shneider turned on the light He had nothing to open the package with so he was going to use his clock which was unusually sharp at the bottom, but his mom called him to come eat breakfast. He looks up at his poster with his initials on it, then ran downstairs because it was his favorite breakfast, leaving the light on.
