My Senior Capstone was working/volunteering at Outpatient Pharmacy at Temple Hospital. I particularly picked this to be my capstone since growing up I admired my sibling and observed how he helped the group being a Pharmacist. The procedure was altogether different distressing and difficult, from ]standing behind a counter for quite a long time, wearing awkward cleans, running drug to patients rooms, putting pills away, or managing an irate/surly patient or client. When I initially began I was apprehensive in light of the fact that I was the most youthful individual there, just seventeen years of age and my colleagues were from the scope of twenty-three to fifty years of age. Yet energized, I knew this would get ready and better me as a future Pharmacist.

One thing that SLA has embarked on me is Reflection. I have incorporated it into every aspect of my life. Reflecting on decisions I have made, have to make, things that occur can occur, and everything in between. So once I entered my senior year I instantly started to reflect on my high school journey as a whole. Thinking and reminiscing about everything. Who I was how I changed and who I was still becoming so I wanted to leave with something meaning left behind.

At the beginning of this school year I thought that the best thing to leave behind would be an awareness on sexual assaults but through all of life’s obstacles I positively still created a project that I am proud of something that is meaningful to me. My Senior Capstone Project is MY journey through high school using pictures because what better way to show where I started and how I got here than using pictures. My project is a 71-inch tall timeline from the day I graduated from 8th  grade to now. With this outcome, I am extremely proud of myself. For entering my transaction proudly, for being hopeful for what’s to come, for taking my rude awakening on full force. I am extremely proud for fighting through the pain, for surviving it all, recovering with grace, for taking my triumph, and happily enjoying my compensation for it all.

Q4 Final Project Submission

For my Q4 project, I decided to create a 3D sculpture of a city made of out nothing but pencils. The sculpture includes 3 buildings with interesting structures in between each building. The pencils are held together by glue and sit on a cardboard foundation. I wanted this sculpture to communicate the idea that our society is slowly evolving before our very eyes. I wanted to show that today’s buildings may be there at the moment, but today’s technology shows us that tomorrow could be a very different story. I include the “X” shaped pencils to hint at the fact that change is coming to our society’s infrastructure but it is still a mystery.

In order to create this sculpture, I need material to represent to final product, something to hold the material, and something for the material to stand on. For these reasons, I used pencils, hot glue, and a sheet of cardboard. Pencils are very tall and narrow so I knew they would be great for representing buildings, the hot glue was the most efficient way of holding the pencils together, and the sheet of cardboard was the most accessible form of a foundation I could find. In terms of relation to my previous projects, this project reminds most of when I created a 3D sculpture of an hourglass. I say this because I was used smaller objects to create one large object, like I did with the pencils.

To create my 3D sculpture, I first did a preliminary sketch what the finished product would look like. This sketch included a combination of different skyscrapers and buildings. I then opened a pack of pencils and began gluing them together with the hot glue gun. I went about creating the sculpture building by building, gluing each structure to the cardboard once it was finished. The artist who inspired me to do all of this was Tara Donovan. She is a minimalistic artist known for creating large structures out of nothing but household items. I was examining her work when I stumbled upon ounce of her sculpture of a city of pencils. It inspired me to try my very own take on the sculpture that was unique and similar to hers at the same time.

In terms of technique, I think using hot glue to hold my pencils together was the very best choice. I say this because hot glue not only dries fast, but has a clear color and is somewhat difficult to spot from a distance. It allowed my sculpture to look alot less tacky then it would if I had used regular glue or tape. Using the hot glue gun at all was a new technique I had to get accustomed to. The hot glue had to be spread in between each pencil for them to stick together properly, so I had to practice aiming the glue gun in the perfect position.

One thing I am proud of in terms of this project is completing it in a reasonable amount of time. Due to issues with the glue gun early on, I was worried that the issues would put me at risk of not being able to turn it in on time. Luckily Ms. Hertz took care of the problem which allowed me to once again work efficiently and complete the sculpture. If I could change anything about the project, I would get a bigger sheet of cardboard and make an even large city with more variety when it comes to buildings.
In conclusion, I think I did my very best to create a 3D sculpture made up of nothing but pencils and glue. I feel as though I was very successful in creating work that mirrored the work of an artist that I studied for quite some time. I would surely complete a project like this in the future if I had the chance. I learned that when little things come together, it can make something big and beautiful.

For my Senior Capstone this year I have created a project that has to do with what I want to do for the rest of my life, which is chiropractic care. For my project I created a google slide explaining what chiropractic is. I also have a video that is a part of my power point where I perform a chiropractic adjustment. I first palpated the person's spine so I could determine where he needs to be adjusted and then I performed a chiropractic adjustment. I have created this project in hopes to give people more information about chiropractic care, how an adjustment is performed, and to show people how safe it really is. Hopefully though this project people will stop being scared and know that this medicine free treatment works and changes lives safely. I want to get chiropractic more known because surgery should be the very last resort. Saying this most people pick surgery because the doctors say it and the patients no nothing about chiropractic and how effective it can actually be. Since this is what I really am dedicated on making this to be my future career I want this to be known so I can get more clients, help more people, and get more money.

Capstone

As a musician, I was constantly told to step outside of my comfort zone. Whether it’s attempting a new genre, singing a different song, or getting up in front of a bigger crowd. The obvious choice for my capstone would be some sort of performance of my own creations, but this is not what I wanted to do. To completely step outside of my comfort zone, I decided to leave music almost completely out of the equation.

For my capstone, I decided to create a carnival for the school to enjoy. The reason why I chose this was because of two reasons. I was not familiar with how to put this together, and it felt like it would be a good challenge for me. Also it was to let everyone have a fun and stress-free end of the year. It was a good way to say goodbye to the place that taught me much of what I needed to know in my teenage years.

I started this project in September, when we were trying to fundraise for other students projects. I spent almost every day planning, researching, and building everything I needed for the carnival. I am now in my final steps for putting on the final show. This is for the class of 2018.

Throughout the year, our goal was to instill confidence into the hearts and minds of the new freshman with the tools within the Makerspace, as well as train the sophomores in being shop managers after the seniors graduate. So many great kids came to the minicourse, but only a few really made an mpact on us running it. they showed great attention while working on their projects, as well as being all around great kids. they have really inspired some of us and that in itself has made the whole minicourse worth the time we put into it.

Last year, there was a large national Sikh campaign going around the United States. The goal of the campaign was to raise awareness of Sikhs. Most often, they're misunderstood by the mass and under-taught, if at all, by public schools. Moreover, the Sikh turban (which is why most people are targeted) is not just a headgear, but our greatest pride. And, I would like my community to know the difference. I am not throwing my Muslim friends under the bus, but just bringing out a reality that is much needed.

As a Sikh myself, being inspired by the campaign developed a better understanding of the Sikh community in my community, to project the positive image and profile of the Sikh community.

I created a small, about twenty to twenty-five minute, presentation that brought awareness to my community about Sikhs. I presented to all my school and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. After, my presentations to leave the message behind, I recreated a painting that portrays the same message. I've added my own elements, but the base of the painting, I take no credit for. Besides a painting, I created a website set-up as a presentation style to those interested in Sikhs.

After months on this capstone, I'm so proud to finish. It didn't end like my initial hope, but I still completed all of my goals. I grew as a public speaker by speaking in front of a large audience and spread awareness on Sikhs.

Shawn Brooks' Capstone Inspirational Women of SLAB

bj.
Abstract:
This is my senior Capstone Project. For my Capstone Project, I decided to dedicate it to inspirational women in society who strive to make a difference by setting examples for others to follow. My original project was going to be a play about my life and its challenges. However, after a conversation with my mentor, Ms.Burrow-Stone, my plans for my Capstone changed. The women in my life, my mother and my maternal grandmother, have played such a significant role in my life that it is impossible to ignore it. As a matter of fact, pretty much women around the women have proved to be significant to society as they continue to try to push past discrimination and other limitations.
When I first started this project, I had to ask myself a question: Why women so important to me? Women are so important in my life because the role that my mother and late grandmother played. This then became the foundation for my project. I did some so research to find out what makes a woman inspirational and I was able to make connections between the research and the women in my life. As apart of my research, I conduct a survey in which I had members of the SLAB community about who was their most inspirational women in their life. I also include some research about women discrimination and gender inequality. All of this was done to show that why we need to appreciate women even more so.

Working on this project was much more than just a capstone. I received an opportunity to be apart of building a program capable of helping people solve their day-to-day issues. In the process, I became more capable of acknowledging my own conflicts and how to deal with them accordingly. Over the course of this project, I learned that there’s a thought behind every action, no matter how small or large. I also learned that active listening is key when you’re trying to encourage someone to communicate. In addition to these things, I learned about the six dimensions of wellness and how they shape our state of mind. It’s safe to say that I’m now more skilled in the art of problem-solving, whether the issue is my own or someone else’s. Week after week we learned more about what it means to be a peer mediator and talk to people about serious matters. It is because of all this that I believe Ms. Fanning truly gave me the chance to contribute to the community as a whole and to improve my capability as a person. It was an honor working with Aliya and the other peer mediators for the past few months. Our rigorous commitment to the project helped create the pristine product you see now. We’ve laid the foundation for an excellent program to be introduced as part of SLA’s counseling initiative. Now we can only hope that we inspire Mr. Johnson to first take a good look at what we’ve created, and then embrace it for the betterment of the SLA community.

Material recorded and created during the process of the project can be found above.

For the class of 2018, we had to create a final presentation for our senior year. I suggested taking part in the action with the homeless people in my city because they are in need which I see often in my community, and thought it would be a good deed to send assistance to those who are less fortunate. The first step we took was to find a location. Where we could reach out to as many individuals, therefore we selected the “Chosen 300” institution. Located in the area of our school, West Philadelphia. After we found a location we began to plan what would be next, helping those in need. The first step was to select the time and dates we were to attend this event. Chosen 300 allowed us to attend on the weekdays Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Where we attended twice a week, Wednesday, May 16, 2018, and May 20, 2018. Chosen 300 welcomed us into their community, allowing us the chance to meet their members of this fellowship. There was a particular schedule when servicing these members. First, we began to prep the food before everyone showed up and set up tables. After was cooperative bible study once we gained our audience. Then was dinner where we served the individuals different vegetables and stomach fulfilling food. I was glad to say I was apart of this experience.
