DiGiorno uses Domestic Violence to Sell Pizza

Qualee Bentley

DiGiorno Pizza went to Twitter to promote their pizza using the hashtag #WhyIStayed. What they didn’t know was that the hashtag was used for thousands of women opening up about their abusive relationships. DiGiorno quickly realized that they made a mistake and took it down but it was too late, this shows lack of control and permanence. They began to explain how they didn’t check and see what the hashtag represented and started to apologize to everyone that saw it. This shows how immediacy played into their situation.

My advice for DiGiorno Pizza is to check before you post. You should always make sure that your post doesn’t contain offensive material. Also, make sure to check what the hashtag represents before you use it.http://time.com/3308861/digiorno-social-media-pizza/

This whole quarter we learn about how to only use the Internet positively because if you post something that you will regret it may affect your life drastically. So think before you post anything. Here is a prime example. This girl named Audrie who is 15 years old suffered cyberbullying with the teenagers she knew. It all happened the month of September in 2012. Audrie was drinking underage and was drinking so much she fell unconscious. Her friends she was with ended up raping her and taking pictures of her. The the teenagers all went to the same school which was Saratoga High School. After taking all the pictures of the girl getting raped and unconscious they ended up posting it on the Internet. Eight days after the situation Audrie went through hell because she had mental and physical fear. She ended up killing herself to escape the damage and harm being continued on her mentally and physically. Audrie never told her parents. And now the teenagers are charged for Audrie’s death but it won’t bring her back but justice needs to be serve. In this situation the permanency is that she is dead and someone can probably look up the pictures the teenagers took of Audrie. The lack of control is that first Audrie was drinking so much that she fell unconscious and she was underage drinking and when the teenagers rapid her and took pictures they knew it was wrong but they thought it was a joke until she ended up killing herself. The immediacy is that once she was raped the three boys instantly posted the pictures online where everyone can see it. But when they went to court the judge used the pictures as evidence against them. The three boys never have been in serious serious trouble where they are dealing with the law but they ended up in the juvenile hall. After Audrie hung herself she was admitted to the hospital on life support but didn't end up surviving. Now the three boys that did all this has to deal with this the rest of their lives and have to sleep everyday with this extreme situation on their mind. And Audrie family has to deal with this everyday that a family member has died and they could not help her with this situation.

Think before you post!

When Amanda Todd was in the 7th grade she met a man in an online chat room who talked her into flashing him her breasts. A year later, the man contacted her on Facebook and asked her to put on a show for him. He threatened to release pictures of her to everyone she knew if she did not do what he said. He knew her address, her name, where she went to school, and who her friends and family members were. Amanda’s pictures were released and went viral. The kids at her school saw the pictures and started to bully and tease her. Amanda became depressed, developed anxiety and began to use drugs and alcohol. Amanda changed schools several times, but it was no use her reputation was ruined.  She reveals her feelings in her video on YouTube, describing how she cried every night and lost all her friends. When Amanda returned home, she tried to commit suicide by drinking bleach, but was saved at the last minute. Finally Amanda moved to a new city, but the bullying continued and she continued to cut herself and attempted suicide. In September 2012 Amanda wrote her story on flashcards and recorded it on YouTube. Amanda’s body was found at her home in British Columbia, Canada on the 10th of October, 2012.

Lack of control: Once Amanda sent the picture she couldn’t control what he did with it because it was now in his possession.

Permanence: Once the man released Amanda’s pictures anyone on social media could have seen them

Immediacy:The amount of hateful messages and threats she got caused her to become depressed and commit suicide

Introduction To Design and Multimedia Project

The reason for this project was to learn how to make a good and fascinating website about something I cared about or found important. The subject I used for my website was Philadelphia because not only could I relate, but I also did a geometric class the featured a picture of Philadelphia that I drew.My goal was to successfully make a website and I managed to do that.I hoped to learn what work needed to be put in to design a website.
In the beginning of the website I didn't know where to start, but then I decided to think about my past projects I did and what I could use in this project.I so happened to come across the geometry project I did for Mrs. Epps in 10th grade. After I found my prject to do everything else flowed out and I was able to successfully make my website. In the process yes there were some errors for example. Using wix I had trouble editing my navigation because on the welcome page I had no navigation to getting to the next page, but after discovering more about the website editor I was using and some help from former class mates I was able finally fix the issue. Now the navigation is not perfect, but I fixed to the best of my ability.
Through the completion of this project I learned how to make a website successfully. I learned how to design and what appeals to the eyes of the viewers. Through this project I learned that I am capable of actually making a website and learning what a good website should look like. If I were to do this project again I would probably use another editor, that may have been easier because wix also uploaded picture weird and editing them on wix was difficult.
Any tips or advise that I would give to anyone else to do this project would be completing your checkpoints on time and trying to make them quality work. This project inspired me to not be afraid to make another website because of the difficulties I might face. The medium, wix did not dictate my message because there were many options for me to bring my own work into my website.

Does Bruno Mars Is Gay

So this guy with bad grammar decided to post on an actual website about how bruno mars is gay. It doesn't really make much sense because how the article is worded and, the guy who made this doesn't  justify his answer but, its basically supposed to be about a rumor going around “about his gay”. One website says that he came out on a radio station on april 1st, april fools day, and that people thought it was real because of the way he talked. Other websites just claim it as a hoax.

Bruno mars has no control over “Bruno mars is gay” , there is no known evidence to show bruno mars reaction to the website or even if he did it at all. This is where lack of control plays, Bruno mars did not create this website of obscene content and most of this stuff isn’t even true. People can believe if bruno mars is gay but  they won't know the truth because they have control over the website and bruno mars does not. Anybody can go on the website and change whatever they please with the guy who made the website’s permission, thus showing that bruno mars has no control on the propaganda used against him. Since then it spread from website to website to twitter to instagram to CNN and so on. Just google #Does Bruno Mars Is Gay.

Bruno mars is gay started after the april fools radio coming out, From April 1st 2012 to November 2nd 2016 and still going this has been a buzzing rumor about if bruno mars really is gay or not. Permanence shows in this because the rumor did not die out in fact it became bigger forging itself into hashtag to meme. Every comedian talks about this undying trend and it's hard to pin point if its real or not because of the poorly worded original website the rumor came from. CNN says that they had him on a radio show in april 1st. This affected bruno mars’ career because if he’s gay or not he has pride in what he identifies as, “I will not go to great lengths to spread this news. The timing is bad, I hadn’t realized it was April Fool’s Day but it’s been pointed out to me and I don’t want to go too public with this. I don’t want it to be disregarded as a joke. My sexuality is no joke to me and it’s come out a little faster than I’d hoped.”

Bruno mars has no control over this website all about bruno mars, the person who made the website can take it down at any time but can never erase the whole thing. #Does Bruno Mars Is Gay  is controversial , you can't erase it because it's a meme and it won't die out, I lasted about 2 years now. This shows Immediacy.

YouTube Video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKVodI1Mf8

A mattress store in San Antonio made a video about their twin tower mattress sale. They were referencing what happened on 9/11. You should never use a horrible moment to make money off of it. You can find it on their FaceBook Feed. She got a lot of hate for that video. Then she was on the news to explain why she made the video. She said it was stupid and a dumb thing to do. Later she apologize and said that she lost some close people too. After her apology, she still get a lot of hate from what she has done.

How immediacy played a huge row is because the video spread quick and lots of people seen it. It spread so quickly that it went to the news and spread even more. Also a lot of people was quick to judge them and giving them hate.

How permanence played a row is the video is now stuck in people's heads. Also that video can still to there store reputation. For example that video can make people judge the store before they even go there.

How Lack Of Control played a row is when she post the video and knew she was getting a lot of hate. She took it down, but people reposted it and she couldn’t take it down. The video was reposted on YouTube. Then on other social media.

My advice is to think before you post something. Think if it's a bad time to post anything. Also to not use something that impacted the U.S in a bad way to make a profit. Those are some advice I have for her.

I'm really proud of my final product. Even though it was pretty straightforward and I was given some linear requirements it was enjoyable. I began working on this unsure of what to expect but it turned out to be better than what I believed I was capable of. I hoped to learn what went into designing a site and this project taught me exactly that! I actually finished all of my pieces on time in this project but had to withhold the final submission due to me deleting something that I never meant to. I still find that all my checkpoints being submitted on time as a huge success given the fact I knew nothing about websites going into this. The only trouble I had outside of deletion was creating a homepage which was the only thing I feel as though I never got right. I learned that I've done a lot more than I remember....but I do not have photos to account for most of it. I do not think I would want to redo this project if given the chance but from now on I will try to take more pictures of my achievements and when I attend events.

ARTIST STATEMENT-AMIN ROBINSON

AMIN ROBINSON-Artist Statement

I created my work because I felt like a triangle was the most easiest way to convey colors in a broad spectrum. I felt my overall vision didn’t come out the way I felt but I did mixed the colors twice. I would expect harsh criticism and good advice of design choices from my audiences and viewers. My current ART work relates to my old one very differently because I was very creative back then and actually into art. My work fits within the current contemporary art very well because people seems to be basing the world on shapes and colors now and days using more shapes to create pieces.

My work fits in with the history of art practice because obviously people have an imagination. My work fits within a series of abstract projects I have done before because it was all in abstract way of conveying colors and shapes. My inspirations was for my idea of conveying a space prism of UV color spectrum. I am not really influenced by any artist but I do think that all artists have gifts that they must keep.

A certain technique that is important would be use rulers to straighten your lines keep shapes in shape. Try to use a background color to complement your stationery art piece. All in all this was a very fun art piece to do even though I had a little trouble with sturdiness I still had fun mixing beautiful colors together to get beautiful outcomes.

Quarter 1 Project Submission

HERE IS MY THING http://piotretrembecki.weebly.com/

This was the quarter 1 assignment for Intro to Multimedia and Design (overly long course name). The premise of it was to introduce students to basic website creation without making them look awful. It also introduced me on making a resume, and that I should never touch Weebly ever again. It was a major pain in me arse in that it was fairly interesting as a topic, but the length of it quickly ran its course and my attention span lost. It also did not help that Weebly is fairly cretinous, and likes to not save my progress. Last difficulty with the project was finding suitable photos, as I'm rarely ever the subject of pictures, and my camera is broken. At least I have no content that isn't my own; thus I don't have any sources to list. I've done the best I could and have nothing to actually redo as far as I'm concerned.
All in all, this project has inspired me TO NOT MAKE ANOTHER WEBSITE ANYTIME SOON! 'Twas not a fun time.

  • A (brief) description of your project and project goals, including what you hoped to learn through completing the project.

what I hoped to learn from this project was a way to express myself in a different way.
  • A (brief) description of the process you went through to complete the project.

The process I went through to complete the project is a lot of stress because I never made a website before and I really didn't know what to do.
  • Any successes and/or failures you encountered. If you describe a failure, explain how you overcame or worked around that failure.

A failure I encountered was that I didn't know how to put some of my past projects on the project part of my website.
  • What you actually ended up learning through the completion of the project.

I learned that making a website is actually kind of fun to do.
  • What you learned about yourself through the completion of the project.

What I learned about myself through the completion of the project is that I do things at the last minute, and struggled with making this video.
  • How you would do this project differently if you were to do it all over again.

What I would do differently if I were to do this all over again was put more time and effort into the project.
  • Any tips or hints for others attempting this project.

Make the true meaning of you heard and express yourself.
  • What this project inspired you to do next.

Maybe make another project
  • Proper citations for any work that is not yours
  • In this project, did the message dictate the medium or did the medium dictate the message?
No because I didn't know how I wanted my project.

Spider Web

IMG_1495
IMG_1495

For the first quarter art project, my vision was to be creative. I really wanted to do something that others wouldn’t do. I also wanted to create something based off of the upcoming holiday, Halloween. I decided to make my color wheel a spider web because who doesn’t think spider webs are cool? I didn’t know how to represent my color wheel at first so I went on pinterest and found some ideas. Spider webs are also circular so I thought that would be cute as a color wheel.

I really like art and I like to think outside of the box. I want for my audience to see my work as bubbly and unique. This is what I want out of the color wheel project. Although I have never physically created a color wheel before, this project relates to my other works of art because of the creativity and colorfulness. Besides the eye appealing color, my work of art includes primary and tertiary colors along with paint mixing.

Art is something you need to be patient with. Sometimes it includes tedious movements and much attention for small detail. I feel like this makes the artwork better because more time is being spent on it. This is the type of things I do to make sure my piece of work is the best that I can make it. My color wheel is a really special piece for me now because I never knew I would be able to create something as eye appealing (to me) as it is.

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/woman-behind-boston-marathon-bombing-costume-blasts-critics-article-1.1508156

Alicia Ann Lynch, 22,  dressed for Halloween as a Boston Marathon bombing victim and sparked rage throughout twitter. She says her family has been subjected to death threats and was fired from her job. Alicia’s personal information were leaked like her driver’s license and even her family’s address in Fairgrove, Mich. After death threats toward her parents and best friend Lynch stated “ She didn’t know what I was doing. My family didn’t know what I was doing. I don’t live with them. And they’re all getting dragged into this for something I did.”. Alicia apologized for her offensive costume“What I did may have been wrong, but is it truly right to wish harm upon someone and say that you’re doing it for the victims?” she said. “As being a part of a tragic event I never would ever wish what had happened to me upon someone else, as I can say most people wouldn’t wish death upon someone to ‘make it right.”

Immediacy : As soon as she posted her costume it immediately got negative feedback.

Permanence: After she posted it whether she deleted it or not it was still on the internet from people posting it on their social media.

Lack of control: After she posted it she lost all control of the picture. She couldn’t control the death threats toward her friends and family. She couldn’t control where the picture ended up or the comments.

Advice: Be more considerate of others and be mindful of what you wear and post. Maybe next time you could wear a costume that doesn’t offend others and doesn’t touch on sensitive subject such as the Boston Marathon bombing.

SEPTA Strike Information

As of 12:01 am on Tuesday, November 1st, SEPTA is on strike.

In addition to Dr. Hite's email that we sent home last week, we wanted to give you some SLA specific information about how we are handling the strike. As a reminder, all School District of Philadelphia information about the strike can be found here: http://webgui.phila.k12.pa.us/offices/s/septa-strike

1) We have set up a carpooling system located here: http://bit.ly/SLABcarpool -- if you can give rides, please register your car and how many spots in your car you have. Please list your neighborhood for "City" and list the cross-streets where you'd meet in the "Notes" section. If you need a ride, go to the site and see if there are any spots in cars from your neighborhood.

2) Students who cannot make it to school can log into the SLA website to work remotely. Teachers will be updating Canvas with all the work students can do remotely, and we are taking a close look at all benchmark due dates to make sure students are not negatively impacted by the strike. Students who are logging into Canvas and working remotely will be marked Present -- Off-Site. (Students who do not log in and are absent will be marked Excused Absent once they bring a note as per SDP policy.)

3) We welcome all alternative forms of transportation, and if your student chooses to ride their bike or scooter to school, please make sure they wear a helmet or they will face an appropriate level of grief from Mr. Johnson.

Chipotle Scandal

Throughout the quarter, we have been exploring the decisions that we make when it comes to what we post online as well as analyzing the decisions of others.

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

You will then write a blog post containing the information above and a link to at least one article about the story.

PLEASE SUBMIT THE LINK TO YOUR BLOG POST TO THIS ASSIGNMENT

1. The former-Chipotle employee who dissed his wages in a tweet, got fired, sued Chipotle and won.

Last year, 38-year-old war veteran James Kennedy took to Twitter to complain about the low wages Chipotle paid to its crew members following a free food promotion.

His tweet read: "@ChipotleTweets, nothing is free, only cheap #labor. Crew members make only $8.50hr how much is that steak bowl really?"

Kennedy later deleted his tweet after a supervisor showed him the company's social-media policy, which states that an employee cannot make "disparaging, false" statements about Chipotle publicly. Following another incident involving his asking for shift breaks, he was let go.

However, the buck didn't stop there. Kennedy took Chipotle to court for his wrongful termination -- and won.

The court found in favor of Kennedy and stated that Chipotle's social-media policy violated federal labor laws and ordered the casual dining restaurant chain to rehire Kennedy and pay him lost wages. The court-case victor, who now has a job with American Airlines and has no plans returning to Chipotle, says that he will accept his lost wages in the form of Chipotle food vouchers. (Now that's customer loyalty.)

In this story Chipotle worker said some not mean things but he said some things about the Chipotle payment. He posted,"@ChipotleTweets, nothing is free, only cheap #labor. Crew members make only $8.50hr how much is that steak bowl really? The employee later deleted the tweet after a supervisor showed him the social media company policy. Following another incident involving his asking for shift breaks, he was let go. Kennedy took Chipotle let to court and sued them for wrongfully terminating him. Luckily the court was in favor of Mister James Kennedy and stated,K  Chipotle's social-media policy violated federal labor laws and ordered the casual dining restaurant chain to rehire Kennedy and pay him lost wages. After that situation James Kennedy no longer has a job at Chipotle but now has This show sign of just about all three categories (Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control), mostly shows Immediacy because in the article unknowingly he posted a tweet about the restaurant and was not thinking about the consequences that might actually occur. Once informed he immediately deleted the tweet. Once on the internet it is never really gone because it leave residue when deleted, where you can always find it. I tell you that because it shows Permanence and how nothing is completely 100% deleted from the internet. It was Lack of control because once it happen he had no idea it would turn out this well. He basically got paid all the wages he was owed, won the court against Chipotle and got a great paying job at American Airlines. All three thing can either really help someone out in life on the internet or really punish somebody one the internet.

Digital Portfolio

Screenshot 2016-11-04 at 8.39.15 AM

In completing this Digital Portfolio I had hoped that I would have created an easily accessible, professional platform in which I could represent myself to the world. This is precisely what I have achieved. In order to build a successful website, I first had to choose the best website creator for me. My Weebly website showcases all the necessary features. The process of creation for my website consisted of, using the elements available and writing brief explanations about myself and my work. An obstacle I encountered in completing my project was having to switch websites in the middle of the project. The Wordpress format wasn’t working for me. But that was easily resolved. One thing I have learned was how to write a resume. One thing I learned about myself was that I have an abundance of photos, none of them seem to be professional though. If I were to do this again, I would probably make sure I took better photos and spent time gathering information on myself to see what it is I did because I feel that my resume lacks substance. That would have to be my advice to others completing this project. Find substance. It’s hard to create a website if you have nothing to put on it. This project inspired me to complete more projects so I can put them in my website. I feel as if in this project, the message dictated the medium. A website was the best way that I could express myself and have it so that it is easily accessible to the world.

http://lourdesblazquez.weebly.com/

Think Before You Post .

In 2013 a 30 year old woman decided to tweet before an 11 hour plane ride to South Africa. She decided to tweet things such as, ‘Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!’  and, ‘Weird German Dude: You’re in First Class. It’s 2014. Get some deodorant.’ — Inner monologue as I inhale BO. Thank God for pharmaceuticals.’ Stupidly enough she decided to leave them up during the plane ride not thinking anything of it. That quickly changed once she arrived and saw what she had just started.

What comes with saying such disrespectful tweets come what some can say the best thing in the world, but in this situation it’s the worst, trending number 1 on Twitter. What comes with that are millions of other tweets commenting back to what she had to say. Many finding it all terrible saying stuff like,“How did @JustineSacco get a PR job?! Her level of racist ignorance belongs on Fox News. #AIDS can affect anyone!”.  Some finding it funny such as one person saying, Oh man, @JustineSacco is going to have the most painful phone-turning-on moment ever when her plane lands” .  Another tweet was from her work. An employee tweeted, “I’m an IAC employee and I don’t want @JustineSacco doing any communications on our behalf ever again. Ever.” And Justine’s the senior director of corporate communications at IAC so that only made it worse for herself. Workers at her jobs threatened to strike any hotel she’d book if she attended. Not only did she bring shame to herself and her career but the family she was visiting also was affected by it. Being that they were National Congress Supporters and longtime activists for racial equality they were disgraced by what he had said. Her aunt said to her,  “I’m an IAC employee and I don’t want @JustineSacco doing any communications on our behalf ever again. Ever.”. So without them she lacked the emotional support she needed in that time.

Permanence

In the situation the Permanence is how no matter if she deleted the tweets and comments (which she did) it was too late. Her leaving it up for hours also doesn’t help either because many have read it so they already know and have probably shared it to others.  Like any person knows, once it’s on the internet it stays on the internet permanently especially if it’s something so bold and dumb like what she did.

Lack of Control

Just like permanence she lost total control on the situation by not realizing how offensive she was being and not deleting it. Now she has no option but to face that anyone can see it and judge her just by what she posted.

Immediacy

Being No. 1 trending on Twitter brought a lot of power to what she had stated causing more talk and attention to herself.

What I would’ve said to her for advice would be to think before you post. It seems that simple but honestly once you write something out there, even if it was a joke to you can cause a lot of unwanted attention. Once you put it out there thousands of different people with different opinions, cultures, beliefs etc. look at you no matter if you wanted them to or not, I would urge to, even if it’s positive to just stay out of the spotlight when it comes to social media because wrong or right someone will twist your words.

Kim Kardashian Paris Robbery

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was recently robbed at her hotel in Paris.  Sources say five men dressed as police officers showed up to her hotel in Paris at 2:00 in the morning.  She was held up at gunpoint.  The men allegedly covered her mouth with duct tape, tied her hands and feet together and threw her in the bathtub.  According to Kim’s accusations the men only spoke french.  The suspects ended up getting away with 11 million dollars worth of jewelry including a 4 million dollar ring Kim’s husband had just bought her.  Shortly after the robbery police checked nearby security cameras which showed the men fleeing the scene.  Three men were on bicycles while the other two were on foot.  A lot of people are blaming the robbery on Kim because she is constantly over sharing information on social media.  Kim flaunted her ring and jewelry on Snapchat.  Kim is also constantly posting her location on social media. In fact hours before the robbery Kim posted a video showing her ring and that she was alone in her hotel room.  Kim’s decisions to constantly overshare on social media has obviously landed her in a messy situation.  Since the robbery Kim hasn’t been active on social media.  Kim’s family says that,” It’s incredibly traumatic what happened to her, but our family is super close and great and we’ll get through it together “.  Lack of control played a part in this story because once Kim posted her location and flaunted her jewelry to her 84 million followers it was up for anybody to see. Anybody could use the pictures, videos , and information any they wanted too. As soon as Kim pressed the post button she immediately lost control of it. Sadly lack of control ended her up in a traumatic situation.  Permanence plays a role in Kim’s story because anything that she post is permanently in the public eye and up for anybody to view.  Even if Kim were to delete a picture or video it’s likely that somebody took a screenshot or saved it to their phone somehow.  Immediacy also plays a role in Kim’s story because as soon as she posted it anybody could immediately do whatever that wanted with it or put it wherever they wanted to.  Permanence, Lack of control, and immediacy all played a role in Kim’s story.  Her situation could have been easily avoided if she didn’t overshare on social media.

Media and Design Website Project (Eric Porter)

Home Page
Home Page
Link: http://ericsportfolioandinfo.weebly.com/

This project was to create a website that contains a basic home page, information about ourselves, our resume, and a project page that displays something that you did in or outside of school. For me, the message dictated the medium. Through the completion of this project I will learn the basics of design and how to arrange elements in a website in a way that is informative and comfortable for the reader to see. To do said project, we had to choose an online website editor, I choose Weebly.com, and build from there. I had chosen quite an ugly theme at first, but changed it halfway. I then filled in the corresponding information and finished it. I had a few ups and down during the process, like the theme issue, but I worked my way around them by getting advice from students and the teacher. In the process I have learned arrangement and styling of a website to my own taste. I also learned that I can create something unique for my purposes online. I probably would not change anything to the site if I were to do it over again, but more pictures would be nice. If anyone else were to do this project, I would say, do what you feel is the most comfortable for you to do and for the reader.

Beauty Beneath The Scarf

For my Q1 art project, I had to create an artistic representational piece that is centered around a color wheel. For my 1st thoughts of what to make I wanted to make an edgy, trippy, psychedelic color wheel art piece, but when I drew the art piece I realized that it would be too much work and take up too much time. I wanted to make something simplistic, yet complex, I didn't want anything too mediocre, but extravagant to the eyes. So i started coming up with another idea for a painting. I wanted to do something very authentic, and representational, at that moment I wanted to paint a picture of a woman wearing a khimar with the color wheel being her face. I wanted to use a beautiful Muslimah as a reference for the picture, so I asked my sister if I could draw a picture of her I found on Instagram. She was one of my main inspirations for the portrait, what also inspired me was a color wheel of a skull I had seen on google, which gave me the idea of doing a face. The reason why I called it the beauty beneath the scarf, is because I wanted to create a picture showing how beautiful Muslim women can be despite wearing over garments and being fully covered. So I gave it the name it has because, it shows that all women are beautiful despite, who or what they are whether it's, religion, race, size, and age. That muslim women can be beautiful to despite them wearing khimars. It took a long time to finally figure how I wanted the picture to look but it's finally results came out satisfying to the eye.

I created a website where people could create and view art only, I call it wolfgallery. This website is a free space where you publicly can display pieces of art, and view others, like an actual art gallery. I made this website because I thought it be a cool place, where people can find an outlet where they can openly express their artistic values. I called it wolfgallery, because this is a place where fearsome art is made.

Think before you post Cole Rooney

Throughout the quarter, we have been exploring the decisions that we make when it comes to what we post online as well as analyzing the decisions of others.

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

You will then write a blog post containing the information above and a link to at least one article about the story.

PLEASE SUBMIT THE LINK TO YOUR BLOG POST TO THIS ASSIGNMENT.

Cole Rooney: Think before you post

On August 3, 2013 a girl from Lutterworth, Leicestershire, England named Hannah Smith, was found dead in her room by her older sister. Weeks ‘].before her death she was said to be being cyber bullied on the internet. People were telling her to drink bleach and cut herself. Days after she died her older sister was getting hate on facebook making fun of Hannah Smith’s death and also blamed her dad for bad parenting.

This had a bad effect on Hannah’s family because they were grieving over her and received a lot of hate. Immediacy played when they kept telling her to cut herself and drink bleach all the time. Lack of control is when her family was still getting hate after she died.

Instead of taking what people say on the internet to heart she could ignore it. Another thing she could do would be to talk to someone about. Lastly, she should’ve avoided asking questions to random people on the internet because people often tell others very horrific things over the internet. For example, kill yourself, or drink bleach. Statements like this have been directed at me before but I never take it to heart because I know that is to be expected of the internet.

Eye color wheel

I created an eye. I had an unrealistic animated style eye though. I chose to do an eye because it was more than just a circle. I could be creative and that’s why I didn’t make a normal realistic “boring” eye. My vision for the picture was to have fun and be different. I know other people did eyes but I feel as though my eye was different. I don’t know how the audience will react.

This relates to my previous work because when I draw a person they have to have eyes. I always wanted to draws eyes like the one I drew but it seemed difficult to get the proper angle I wanted. This time I just drew it and it came out how I wanted. I don’t know what contemporary art is. My work doesn’t really fit in with the history of the art we did in class. We never really drew eyes or anything related to humans. An inspiration for my eye is when I looked up cool eyes and a character from a show popped up. I’ve been influenced by a lot of cartoonists. I really liked drawing and when I was younger I drew my favorite cartoon characters. I didn’t learn a new technique but I did learn how to draw a cool eye.

So overall I created my eye because it was interesting and unique. I was influenced kinda but it was all mostly my thought. I like the way it cam out but I don’t like the colors when I painted it.

Think Before You Post

Anorexia is promoted through the Internet.

There are so many outlets for young insecure teens to be exposed to the dark world of anorexia and pedophiles wanting to prey on them. There are “pro-ana” (pro-anorexia) and “pro-mia” (pro-bulimia) websites and social media pages. Pages post “thinspo”, or thinspiration, which are pictures of extremely thin bodies. They post comments saying they could look like those pictures if they try hard enough. They even have adults that would coach them.

Pedophiles are luring young teens on pro-ana websites to target vulnerable teenage girls. The pedophiles acts as a coaches saying they can help them achieve their goal. They tell the teens they need photos of them naked so they can “coach” and encourage them to get thinner. At this point in their lives, the children are most vulnerable and will do whatever to achieve their goal weight. It is relatively easy to catch one of these predators on Whatsapp, Facebook, or Kik which makes it so alarming seeing they are so common.

Regular men are even taking advantage. There is a blog post titled “5 Reasons To Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder.” This is one of the most disturbing things about this subject. Men are celebrating these deadly disorders for their own enjoyment.

  • Immediacy:

    • Some of these girls and boys are around the ages of 8-12. They aren't old enough to take an advil and these people are taking advantage of this vulnerability of being so young. The exposure is alarming. Any child any age can see these websites and profile pages.

  • Permanence:

    • Some young girls leave their information on these websites. If they decide to recover and not live this lifestyle they most likely forget they left all that information out for the public. Any could find them if they left any true information.

  • Lack of Control:

    • Most of these conversations happen on temporary accounts that make things hard to track back to a person. This makes it easier for the people trying to mess with these teens to seem untrackable. If they post pictures of these girls on pornographic websites it’s harder for them to be prosecuted.

The world of promoting eating disorders is so large and so unknown. There’s so many girl and boys of all ages on these websites and no one really knows about it because people don’t really search these things. It’s not hard to find, so why isn’t anyone taking care of these sad, depressed, and hurt teens that need help?
